The 1983 Major League Baseball All-Star Game honored Lefty Gomez as he stood as the last surviving player from the 1933 All-Star Game. He had the privilege of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. On August 2, 1987, Gomez, along with Whitey Ford, received plaques to be placed in Monument Park at Yankee Stadium.
