Attributed John Henry Martin Antique Coastal Seascape Oil Painting c1900
Description
Attributed to John Henry Martin (1835–1908), this atmospheric late 19th to early 20th century coastal seascape depicts waves crashing against a rugged rocky shoreline, with two sailing vessels visible on the horizon beneath a dramatic evening sky.
The painting is signed "H. Martin" to the lower left and retains an old Gray & Sons (Carlisle) Ltd. framer's label to the reverse, adding to its period provenance.
The work bears strong stylistic similarities to known coastal paintings by John Henry Martin, particularly his Cornish and Devon marine scenes. While the signature and style are consistent, the painting has not been independently authenticated and is therefore offered as attributed to John Henry Martin.
Presented in what appears to be its original vintage wooden frame.
