Roland HP704 Digital Upright Piano—Under the Lid

Streamlined, sophisticated design that invites you to sit and play

A great-sounding piano must look good too. From the tall-yet-slim cabinet to the elegant front legs and sophisticated curves based on the design concept of Roland’s flagship LX Series, the HP704 draws you in and compels you to start playing. Each finish has been carefully selected and meticulously manufactured, so you can choose a piano that truly looks at home in your living room. Also, the cabinet is designed to deliver the best possible sound, regardless of where the piano is situated. Available in polished ebony, charcoal, dark rosewood, light oak, and white.

Roland’s SuperNATURAL sound engine and PHA-50 keyboard

No stranger to innovation, starting with being the first to offer the ability to bend audio with VariPhrase technology in 2,000 and the world’s first touch-sensitive electronic piano in 1974, Roland has been racking up the firsts ever since. The latest being their SuperNATURAL Piano Modeling technology, which offers unlimited polyphony and supremely realistic piano sound brought to life by the expressive touch of the PHA-50 keyboard. The combination of these advances provides a playing experience that will satisfy all, from beginner to accomplished pianist.

A great sound makes you play better. The HP704’s SuperNATURAL technology captures the essence of an acoustic piano in every note. Unlike sample-based digital pianos, Roland’s SuperNATURAL Piano Modeling technology replicates the entire sound creation process of an acoustic piano—including the combination of notes played, their resonance, and the interaction between myriad elements—for a rich, complex sound that responds to your touch. Perfectly matched to the sound engine, the new PHA-50 keyboard features hybrid construction with wood and ivory-feel materials, plus an integrated pin in each key for stability. This provides truly authentic playability and consistent feel that’s impervious to normal temperature and humidity changes, eliminating a costly maintenance issue that’s common with traditional piano keys.

The Great Escapement

When we say that a digital keyboard can satisfy both amateur and professional, we’re not just talking about sound quality. As any classical pianist will tell you, escapement, s an essential feature that without it, would disqualify a digital piano as an option.

Escapement, also known as “let-off,” is what allows the hammer to be released (escape) after it strikes the string, even if the key is still depressed. Without this “single escapement,” the hammer would be held against the string (muting its vibrations) for as long as the key was depressed. What’s unique about the escapement is the feel it has when you press a key. It has a specific “clicking” feel when a key is depressed about halfway down, which is an integral characteristic of acoustic piano action.

The escapement action and clicking feel, typically found only on high-end digital pianos, is a feature found all Roland digital pianos, regardless of price point, which makes the HP704 that much more of an incredible value—and enables experienced pianists to seamlessly transition from acoustic to Roland digital pianos, and conversely, students who learned on digital pianos to play acoustic pianos without having to alter their technique.

Inspiring, room-filling sound from a powerful four-speaker system

And as you play, your performance comes to life through an advanced four-speaker Acoustic Projection System that delivers sparkling highs, warm lows, and everything in-between—just like Roland’s venerable Jazz Chorus amp, a legend among the world’s great jazz guitarists. The cabinet houses four speakers; two are coaxial 5″ nearfield with a 1″ tweeter for the overall dry piano sound, while the other two are for ambience. They’re configured as two pairs inside the instrument, and each pair is optimized to deliver superior sound reproduction across the piano’s vast dynamic range. Whether you’re playing or streaming music, you’ll hear every note in immersive, crystal-clear sound.

Hollywood Minute— Coaxial, or point-source speakers are the holy grail of speaker design. Because the tweeter is centered in the woofer, all frequencies reach your ear at the same time, just an acoustic waveform would in reality space.

Improve your technique with onboard educational features and apps

Learning the piano is both a physical and mental acquisition that can prove challenging to adults and children alike. However, with a little dedication and the expanded educational features that the HP704 offers, you can boost your technique in ways that book-learning can’t provide. For example, there are 287 lessons, including Hannon and Czerny, while the Twin Piano mode allows a learner and teacher to sit side-by-side and play in the same key range. The built-in metronome promotes accurate timing, while the onboard recorder lets you capture what you’ve been working on to instantly evaluate your progress. There’s audio and MIDI playback from USB memory, plus integrated Bluetooth MIDI functionality that lets you wirelessly connect to apps, such as Roland’s Piano Partner 2, and also access digital sheet music, song libraries, and more. The Roland HP704 makes practice a pleasure, not a chore, ensuring that you’ll stay motivated and your piano skills will constantly improve.

The Roland HP704 brings beauty and musical pleasure to your home. For more information, call or chat online with a Hollywood Piano specialist.
