Shopify and ChatGPT: How Products Appear, Who Qualifies and How to Opt Out
What Shopify shares with ChatGPT, what your store needs to qualify, where customers check out, and how to use ChatGPT to sell your Shopify stock on other marketplaces.
- Shoppers: Eligible Shopify products can appear in ChatGPT through Shopify Catalog. ChatGPT is a discovery channel, and the sale happens at your store’s checkout.
- Who qualifies: Your store must sell to US customers, though it can be based elsewhere, and needs its policies filled in.
- Control: You manage this in the Shopify admin under Sales channels > Agentic.
- Selling elsewhere: Shopify’s setup doesn’t list your stock on other marketplaces. The FLUF Connect plugin for ChatGPT can do that on items you choose.
“Shopify and ChatGPT” can mean two separate things. One is shoppers finding your products inside ChatGPT, which Shopify runs. The other is you using ChatGPT to work on your own stock and orders, which needs a connected tool. This guide covers both, starting with the question most store owners ask.
How Do Shopify Products Appear in ChatGPT?
Shopify shares eligible products with ChatGPT through Shopify Catalog, as part of what it calls Agentic Storefronts. Shopify lists these requirements:
- Your store sells to customers in the United States. The store itself can be based elsewhere.
- Your products are eligible for Shopify Catalog.
- You’ve agreed to the Agentic Storefronts Supplemental Terms of Service.
- Your terms of service, privacy policy, and return and refund policy are complete under Settings > Policies.
- Your products aren’t B2B-only, as those aren’t supported.
So a UK store that ships to the US can qualify, and a UK store that only sells at home doesn’t meet the first requirement.
Can Customers Buy Inside ChatGPT?
No. Shopify describes ChatGPT as a discovery channel, and customers buy at your online store checkout. On mobile it opens in a browser inside the ChatGPT app, and on the web it opens in a new tab. There’s no checkout setting to switch on, your own branding and payment methods apply, and you pay only your standard payment processing fees.
How Do You Stop Shopify Sharing Products with ChatGPT?
- In your Shopify admin, go to Sales channels > Agentic.
- Turn off Allow Shopify to manage for me.
- Click ChatGPT and turn off Shopify Catalog access.
- Click Save.
Shopify says sharing can take up to 7 days to stop, and ChatGPT may still find your products through web crawling. To hide a specific product, use Shopify’s product discoverability settings for AI channels.
Can ChatGPT Help Sell Your Shopify Stock on Other Marketplaces?
Yes, with a connected tool. Shopify’s ChatGPT channel only covers shoppers finding your store. The FLUF Connect plugin for ChatGPT works on the seller side. It reads the stock you’ve brought into FLUF from Shopify, and can crosslist it to any marketplace you’ve connected.
| Shopify in ChatGPT | FLUF Connect plugin | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it’s for | Shoppers | You, the seller |
| What it does | Shows your products in ChatGPT | Finds, crosslists and fixes your listings, and shows your orders |
| Where the sale happens | Your Shopify checkout | Wherever the item sells, on your store or a marketplace |
| What you need | An eligible store selling to the US | A FLUF Connect account on a plan that includes ChatGPT |
A typical conversation looks like this:
- “@FLUF Connect which of my Shopify items aren’t on eBay yet?” You get a list of matching items.
- “List the first ten on eBay.” ChatGPT asks you to confirm, then FLUF lists them.
- “Did any get refused?” You see the marketplace’s reason for each and can correct it in the chat.

Once an item is live in several places, FLUF’s inventory sync keeps stock in line across them. For the full picture of moving Shopify stock to a marketplace, read crosslisting from Shopify to eBay or our guide to selling on Shopify.
Which FLUF Plan Includes ChatGPT?
Crosslisting from ChatGPT needs Priority. Pro can read products and orders and ask questions from ChatGPT, and Starter doesn’t include the connection. The 7-day trial includes everything. If you’d rather not use ChatGPT, you can do all of this from the FLUF Connect dashboard, where crosslisting and inventory sync are on every plan.
