If you sell new products with a barcode, Walmart Marketplace is worth adding next to eBay. If you sell one-off, used or vintage pieces, eBay is the better home for them. Walmart only lets you sell a product that already has a page in its catalogue, and it limits used and refurbished goods to an invitation-only programme. eBay lets you write your own listing for almost anything, and it accepts used items in many categories. Below you will find who can sell on each, what each one takes from a sale, how listings get made, and how FLUF Connect handles stock on both.

Is this for you?

Pick Walmart if your stock is new, sealed and barcoded, and the same products already appear in Walmart’s catalogue. Pick eBay if your stock is unique, used, vintage or unbarcoded, or if you need to create listings from scratch. Many sellers do both: eBay as the main place to sell, with Walmart added for the new lines that match existing pages. A quick test is to search Walmart for three of your best-selling barcodes. If all three already have a product page with the same title and packaging, Walmart is worth the setup. If none appear, your stock is probably better suited to eBay alone.

Who can sell and how you get in

Walmart is open to sellers who apply through its seller sign-up page. Walmart decides who is approved, and you need an approved Walmart Marketplace seller account before FLUF Connect can link to it. The sign-up page says there are zero monthly or set-up fees, so you pay only when something sells.

eBay works differently. You sign in with your eBay account and start listing. Which item conditions you can choose depends on the category. Some categories offer only new, while others offer used, and eBay’s condition-by-category guide sets out the options for each.

What each one charges

Walmart charges a referral fee as a percentage of each sale. The rate depends on the product category Walmart assigns to your item. Walmart’s referral fee schedule, last updated 9 March 2026, lists 15% for Toys & Games, Home, Kitchen, Decor & Garden, and Books. Personal Computers are 6%, and Video Game Consoles are 8%. Jewelry and Precious Metals take 20% on the first $250 of the total sale price and 5% above that. Watches take 15% up to $1,500 and 3% above. Beauty and some Electronics Accessories are tiered by price too. The total sale price includes shipping and gift wrap. The schedule does not list a per-order fee.

eBay’s US selling fees page sets the final value fee for most categories at 13.6% of the total sale amount per item, up to $7,500, and 2.35% on any part above that. A per-order fee of $0.30 applies to orders of $10 or less, and $0.40 to larger orders. You get 250 listings a month with no insertion fee, then pay $0.35 per listing. Store subscribers get more free listings.

Take a $25 Toys & Games item that sells for $25 in total, shipping included. At Walmart’s 15% rate, the referral fee is $3.75, and the schedule shows no per-order charge. On eBay, if the item falls in a category at the standard 13.6% rate, the fee is $3.40 plus the $0.40 per-order fee, which makes $3.80. The gap on one sale is small. It adds up across a few hundred sales a year, and it also shows why you should check the rate for your own category on each site before you set prices.

Walmart matches your item, eBay takes your listing

Walmart’s catalogue is built from product pages that already exist. FLUF Connect finds the matching page by barcode, a UPC or GTIN, and lists your item against it. Walmart’s page supplies the title, images and category. FLUF sends your price, stock and condition. If your product has no page on Walmart, FLUF will not create one, so that item stays off Walmart. For a barcoded product that other sellers already stock, this is quick. For a product no one else sells, it is a dead end.

eBay is the reverse. You create the listing yourself, with your own title, description, photos and condition notes. That suits unique items, collectables, parts and anything without a barcode, because the buyer finds the item through your listing rather than through a shared product page.

Used, refurbished and one-off items

Walmart’s Resold programme is the route for used goods. Most sellers are limited to new products, and Pre-Owned or Restored items need an invitation. Restored items must be returned to factory settings, updated to the latest firmware, and wiped of personal data under NIST media sanitation standards. Sellers in the programme must keep returns at 9% or below in the Resold categories.

If you sell one used camera, a vintage lamp or a single designer bag, eBay is the sensible choice. Walmart’s rules make it impractical for a seller who turns over a few individual pieces. Describe flaws in the listing text on either site, because a buyer who receives something different from the description can open a claim.

Effort and day-to-day work

Walmart front-loads the work. You need an approved seller account, Developer Portal credentials and a catalogue match for each product. After that the job is mostly checking that barcodes match and keeping stock right. Every Walmart sale is a manual stock update in FLUF, so the more Walmart volume you add, the more you rely on that routine.

eBay front-loads the listing work. Each item needs its own title, description, photos and condition, and the condition choices depend on the category. Once listings are live, the two-way sync does most of the rest. An eBay sale updates your other channels, and a sale elsewhere ends or reduces the eBay listing, so the daily job is mostly answering buyers and packing orders.

If you have only a few hundred products, the extra Walmart step is manageable. If you have thousands of one-off items, eBay’s create-your-own model is the one that scales with the way your stock arrives.

Payouts and fulfilment

Walmart settles sales every two weeks, on alternate Fridays at midnight Pacific time, according to its payment guide. New sellers can have payouts held for up to 14 days if they are incorporated in the US, or up to 21 days if they are not. The hold ends once 90 days have passed since the first order was shipped or delivered, and the account has received $7,500 in payments, according to Walmart’s new-seller hold policy. Plan your stock cash around that hold if you are starting out.

On Walmart you can use Walmart Fulfillment Services, where Walmart stores and ships your stock for a fee, or ship orders yourself using Walmart’s shipping settings and labels. Whichever you choose, the stock count in FLUF Connect has to match what is on the shelf.

Buyers

eBay reported 136 million active buyers for the second quarter of 2026, up from 134 million a year earlier. Gross merchandise volume was $22.4 billion, up 15% as reported. Those figures come from its quarterly results release. Walmart does not publish a comparable marketplace buyer figure, so the fairest test is your own: list a small batch of barcoded stock on Walmart for a month and compare sell-through with what the same products do on eBay.

Connecting Walmart in FLUF Connect

Open the Walmart card on the Channels screen and paste in your developer keys from the Walmart Developer Portal. You need an approved Walmart Marketplace seller account first. The card below shows what the screen looks like before an account is connected.

Once Walmart is connected, FLUF sets its stock to zero when the same item sells on another connected channel, which stops a second sale. Walmart orders never reach FLUF, so after each one you lower the stock in FLUF by hand. FLUF does not relist, manage offers or run smart pricing on Walmart, so those jobs stay manual.

Connecting eBay in FLUF Connect

Sign in with eBay from FLUF Connect and your listings go up there. Stock stays in step both ways. An eBay sale is picked up and the other channels update, and a sale on another channel ends or reduces the eBay listing. eBay orders come into FLUF. Relisting, offer management and smart pricing on eBay are included from the Pro plan upwards.

Running both

A seller with barcoded new stock can run both channels from one inventory. Use eBay as the fully synced hub, and add Walmart for the items that match its catalogue. The one thing to build into your routine is the Walmart sale. Until Walmart orders come into FLUF, mark the item sold yourself, or the other channels will keep showing it as available. If you sell mainly individual or used pieces, skip Walmart and keep your effort on eBay.

Most sellers can list only new products. Used, pre-owned and restored items need an invitation to Walmart's Resold programme. eBay allows used conditions in many categories, though the choices depend on the category.
