FLUF Connect

Crosslist from Depop to Amazon: what actually fits

Amazon only takes Apparel, Shoes and Handbags as New, so most Depop stock stays put. Here is what does fit, the fees on each side and how FLUF Connect keeps the two in sync.

Key Takeaways: Depop to Amazon

  • Amazon is a poor fit for most Depop stock. Amazon only allows Apparel, Shoes and Handbags in New condition, so worn and pre-loved clothing cannot go on it.
  • Good fit: deadstock and new-with-tags branded pieces that carry a barcode, plus anything with an existing Amazon product page.
  • You need a barcode or ASIN. Amazon usually adds your offer to a product page that already exists rather than publishing your own title and photos.
  • A Depop sale ends the Amazon listing. An Amazon sale is not picked up, so you mark it sold in FLUF and it ends the Depop listing for you.
  • Cost: 7 days for £1, then from £9/month. Starter covers crosslisting and stock sync for this pair.

Is Amazon right for your Depop stock?

Mostly, no. Amazon’s condition guidelines say Apparel, Shoes and Handbags can only be listed as New, with the original tags and packaging. A worn jumper, a pair of trainers you have run in, or anything you describe on Depop as “good condition” or “used” cannot go on Amazon in that category, on any account type.

What does work is the part of a Depop wardrobe that is still new: deadstock trainers still in the box, dead-tag pieces bought and never worn, and sample stock. It also works for the categories outside fashion that some Depop sellers carry alongside clothes, such as used books, games, film cameras and homeware, where Amazon accepts used condition.

If your Depop shop is mostly worn or altered clothing, eBay and Vinted stay the better second channel. Our Depop to eBay guide covers that route. One exception: if you rework garments by hand, Amazon Handmade takes altered and upcycled clothing. It is a separate storefront you apply to join, and it does not cover a vintage find sold as you bought it.

How an Amazon listing differs from a Depop one

On Depop, your photos, your title and your price are the listing. Buyers scroll a feed and follow sellers whose style they like. On Amazon you usually join an offer to a product page that already exists, built from the item’s barcode or its Amazon ID (ASIN). The page keeps its own title and photos, whoever sells it.

That changes what decides whether a listing works. A barcoded trainer box or a boxed electronics item is straightforward. A one-off Depop find with the label cut out, or something you sourced without its original packaging, usually has no page to join.

Items without a barcode, such as your own upcycled pieces, can apply for Amazon’s product ID exemption, category by category. It asks for photos of every side of the item and its packaging.

Amazon condition grades

Outside Apparel, Shoes and Handbags, Amazon uses five general condition grades: New, Used – Like New, Used – Very Good, Used – Good and Used – Acceptable. Books, music, games and toys also carry Collectible grades, which need a reason such as signed or first edition.

Pick the Amazon grade by reading its definition, not by copying the condition you gave the item on Depop. “Used – Very Good” allows only light signs of wear, and any missing part or accessory must be named in the listing.

The Amazon plan you need

Amazon has two plans. On Amazon.co.uk, Individual costs £0.75 per item sold excl. VAT, and Professional costs £25 a month excl. VAT. On Amazon.com, Individual costs $0.99 per item sold and Professional costs $39.99 a month.

To connect a listing tool such as FLUF Connect, you need the Professional plan. Third-party connections and bulk listing are Professional-only, so an Individual account cannot link up. Work out roughly where the per-item cost crosses over: around 33 sales a month in the UK, and around 40 in the US, is where Professional gets cheaper on fees alone.

Depop and Amazon fees, with a worked example

Depop Amazon
Selling fee (UK/US) None for UK and US sellers No separate selling fee; referral fee applies instead
Selling fee (other countries) 10% of the sale Same referral fee everywhere on that marketplace
Payment processing (UK) 2.9% + £0.30 of the order total Included in the referral fee
Payment processing (US) 3.3% + $0.45 of the order total Included in the referral fee
Monthly account fee None £25 excl. VAT (UK) or $39.99 (US) on Professional

Amazon.co.uk’s Clothing and Accessories referral fee is 5% up to £15, 10% between £15 and £20, and 15% above £20. Amazon.com’s rate is 5% up to $15, 10% up to $20, and 17% above that, with a $0.30 minimum. Backpacks, handbags and footwear sit at a flat 15% in the US, minimum $0.30.

Take deadstock trainers you sell for £60 plus £4 postage. On Depop UK, payment processing is 2.9% of the £64 total plus £0.30, which is £2.16. With no selling fee, you keep £61.84. On Amazon.co.uk, the item is above £20, so the referral fee is 15% of £64, which is £9.60. You keep £54.40, and the £25 monthly plan comes out of that month’s total separately.

In the US, a similar pair at $75 plus $5 postage costs 3.3% of $80 plus $0.45 on Depop, which is $3.09, leaving you $76.91. On Amazon.com the item is over $20, so the referral fee is 17% of $80, which is $13.60, leaving $66.40 before the $39.99 monthly plan.

How to crosslist from Depop to Amazon

  1. Connect Depop. Add Depop from Channels in FLUF and sign in. Your Depop listings import with titles, photos, prices and categories.
  2. Connect Amazon. Add Amazon from Channels, sign in on Amazon’s own page, and choose the marketplace you want, such as Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com.
  3. Pick the new-with-tags and deadstock items. Leave out anything worn, altered without being handmade, or without a barcode.
  4. Add a barcode or ASIN. Scan the item’s EAN or UPC, or copy the ASIN from the matching product page.
  5. Set the Amazon condition grade and check the price. Make sure it still covers the referral fee.
  6. Crosslist. Send a small batch first, then use bulk operations for the rest once the offers look right.
