- Highlight gives the ad a darker yellow background for 7, 14 or 21 days.
- Price Drop shows your old price in red for 7 days and alerts anyone watching the ad.
- Urgent adds an icon and lets bargain hunters filter for your ad, for 7, 14 or 21 days.
- Top Ad pins the ad above the normal results.
Gumtree Australia shows the price of each extra when you buy it, and prices vary by category. For a cheap item like a kids’ bike, skip the extras. For a dining table that has sat unanswered for a week, a single Bump Up is the sensible first step.
Keeping safe on both
The scams are the same on both sites, so the habits carry over. Gumtree Australia’s own warning is plain: keep all chats within Gumtree Messenger, because scammers ask to move to WhatsApp or SMS and send fake payment links, and Gumtree Australia never arranges payments or deliveries outside its platform. Scamwatch warns sellers about fake buyers who ask you to pay shipping or insurance up front and promise to pay it back. Take cash or a cleared transfer on collection, and ignore anyone who wants to send a courier for a large item you have not been paid for.
