Who this is for
You sell fashion on Depop from Australia: vintage, streetwear, sneakers, a wardrobe clear-out that turned into a side business. Your Depop buyers are spread across the country and expect postage. You would also like the buyer two suburbs away who will collect tonight and pay on the doorstep.
This route is not for sellers outside Australia. Gumtree Australia’s posting policy says the site is for Australian based individuals and businesses only, and it removes ads posted from overseas. Gumtree Australia is also a separate company from the Gumtree site in the United Kingdom, with its own accounts and its own rules. Nothing on this page applies to the UK site.
It is also not for anyone who wants a checkout. A Gumtree Australia sale is usually a message, an agreed price and a meet-up.
Why a Depop seller would add Gumtree Australia
The two sites reach different people. Depop is a fashion app where buyers follow shops and scroll. Gumtree Australia is a general classifieds site. It describes itself as 6 million users and more than 2.5 million listings, with over 45,000 new listings a day and Clothing & Jewellery among its categories.
Three kinds of Depop stock tend to suit a local ad:
- Bulky or heavy pieces, such as boots, coats and bags, where postage eats into the price.
- Bundles and job lots that are awkward to pack.
- Items that have sat on Depop for weeks and need fresh eyes.
What the money looks like
Since 22 July 2026, Depop charges Australian sellers no selling fee on sales in Australian dollars. Depop’s announcement says payment processing fees and boosting fees continue to apply. The buyer now pays a marketplace fee of up to 5% of the item price plus up to A$1.
Take a jacket listed at A$60. On Depop the buyer sees A$60, plus a marketplace fee of up to A$4, plus postage. You receive A$60 less the payment processing fee. On Gumtree Australia the buyer hands you A$60 at pickup and nobody takes a cut. The trade-off is time: you answer messages, agree a meeting and wait for someone to turn up.
Paid upgrades exist on Gumtree Australia, and its posting guide says they are optional unless the category has a mandatory listing fee. FLUF only posts standard ads and never buys upgrades for you.
What a Gumtree Australia ad needs that a Depop listing does not
A Depop listing copied word for word can break Gumtree Australia’s rules. Check these before you crosslist.
- No links and no contact details. The posting policy bans links to external websites, including e-commerce platforms, and phone numbers or email addresses in the description. Remove any “find me on Depop” line.
- No hashtag blocks. Depop descriptions often end in a row of tags. Gumtree Australia treats keyword stuffing and added tags as manipulating search.
- One ad per item. Duplicate ads are removed.
- English, and the single most relevant category.
- A plain title. Gumtree Australia’s own example is “Dining Table – Solid Wood – 6 Seater”. For clothing, that means brand, item and size.
- A description written for a stranger. Ads without enough detail can be taken down. Say the size, the condition and any flaws.
Gumtree Australia also warns sellers to keep all chats inside Gumtree Messenger, because scammers ask to move to WhatsApp or SMS and send fake payment links.
Setting it up in FLUF Connect
- Connect Depop from the Channels screen. FLUF imports your Depop listings into one inventory.
- Post at least one ad yourself on Gumtree Australia. FLUF needs an existing ad on your account before it can create new ones.
- Install the FLUF browser extension and connect Gumtree Australia. You do this once.
