Key Takeaways: crosslisting from Temu to TikTok Shop

  • UK sellers only. FLUF supports UK TikTok Shop sellers. If your TikTok Shop account is registered in another country, this pairing does not apply to you.
  • TikTok Shop UK commission is 9%, with an effective 5% for Electronics and Beauty and Personal Care. It is charged on the postage the customer pays as well as the item price.
  • Temu sets its service fee by category and takes it when an item sells. Opening a seller account costs nothing.
  • TikTok Shop UK accepts sole traders and individuals as well as companies and charities. An individual needs a UK-issued passport or driving licence.
  • Vapes, e-cigarettes, tobacco and weapons are prohibited on TikTok Shop UK. Electrical goods, toys and beauty products need documents and approval first.
  • FLUF Connect detects a sale on either channel and updates stock on the other. Neither channel needs the FLUF browser extension. 7 days for £1, then from £9/month, then plans from £9/month.

Is this pairing right for your shop?

This guide is for a UK seller already selling new stock on Temu‘s local-seller marketplace, where you dispatch from stock held in the UK. FLUF Connect supports UK TikTok Shop sellers only. If your TikTok Shop account belongs to another country, or you sell on Temu from outside the UK and Europe, this pairing will not work for you.

If that is you, adding TikTok Shop puts your catalogue in front of shoppers who find products through videos and creators. Plan to make some video content or work with creators once your listings are live, because a listing with no video behind it gives those shoppers nothing to find.

Registering as a seller on both marketplaces

Both marketplaces check who you are before you can list anything, and the checks differ.

For TikTok Shop UK, you pick one of five seller types when you register: sole trader or individual seller, privately-owned business, publicly-listed business, state-owned business, or charity. A sole trader or individual uploads a passport or driving licence issued by the UK government, plus a selfie holding it. A business gives its company registration number, legal name, registration date and details of an authorised representative, whose ID can come from any country. TikTok Shop warns that you cannot easily change your seller type after you submit, so choose carefully.

On Temu, Wise’s UK guide says you can register as an individual, a sole trader, a partnership or a limited company. Everyone uploads photo ID and a proof of address from the last three months. Businesses also give a registration or tax ID number and details of their beneficial owners or executives. Some products need test reports or certificates before you can list them, and Frooition notes that Temu checks seller identities against business registries.

What TikTok Shop and Temu take when something sells

The TikTok Shop UK Commission Rate Policy sets the commission at 9% before incentive reductions. Eligible Electronics and Beauty and Personal Care listings pay an effective 5%. The base includes the shipping fee the customer pays, so charging postage raises your commission too.

A worked example at the standard rate: a £30 item carries £2.70 in commission. Charge the buyer £4 postage and the base becomes £34, so the commission rises to £3.06.

Temu works differently. According to Frooition, registering and listing cost nothing, and Temu charges a service fee at the point of sale that depends on your product category. Look up the fee for your categories before you compare margins across the two channels.

Price positioning also differs. Frooition reports that local Temu listings can show faster delivery estimates than cross-border ones, which tends to convert better. That delivery estimate is your edge over cross-border listings on Temu. On TikTok Shop, shoppers meet your product in a video, so set each channel’s price separately.

Paying creators to promote your products

Creators can sell your products through their videos in return for a commission on each sale. TikTok Shop’s Affiliate Commission and Payout Rules work it out as revenue minus refunds, multiplied by the product’s commission rate, and different products can carry different rates. The creator is paid on the 3rd or 15th day after delivery, depending on your settlement period. Work out your margin with the 9% platform commission and the creator’s share both taken off.

What you cannot sell on TikTok Shop UK

TikTok Shop splits products into ones it never allows and ones it allows after review. Its Prohibited Products Policy lists e-cigarettes, e-liquids and all tobacco products as unsupported. It also bans guns, stun guns, pepper spray and knives or bladed products of any size. If your Temu catalogue includes kitchen knives or craft blades, leave them off TikTok Shop.

The Restricted Products Policy covers goods you can sell only after TikTok Shop reviews your documents. Examples include electrical products, which need UKCA or CE marking images and a user manual, toys with age suitability information, beauty products with ingredient lists, and battery-powered or aerosol goods with Safety Data Sheets. The UK Content Policy adds that a health claim such as “detox” needs supporting documentation.

Why overselling costs more on TikTok Shop

TikTok Shop tracks a Seller-Fault Cancellation Rate: the share of orders cancelled for reasons you control over 7 calendar days. It must stay at 2.5% or lower. An out-of-stock cancellation counts, and so does an order that auto-cancels because you missed the dispatch deadline. TikTok Shop can respond with an order volume limit or, for persistent problems, account deactivation. Sellers using Fulfilled by TikTok are exempt.

So an item that sells on Temu and stays live on TikTok Shop is a risk to your account. Keeping stock counts matched on both channels protects that rate.
