StockX vs Depop: Where to Sell Your Trainers

Which pairs belong where
Start with the box. StockX says items on its Verified Marketplace are new and unworn, and it can refuse to return an item that is worn, the wrong size or missing its original box. If a pair has been on feet, lost its box or been customised, it is a Depop pair.
- Sealed, current release, common size: either. StockX buyers are searching for exactly that product and size.
- New but no box, or a damaged box: Depop.
- Worn a few times, or a custom paint job: Depop.
- An old or obscure release: Depop, unless StockX already has that product in its catalogue. An ask can only go on a product and size StockX lists.
StockX is also testing a Listings Marketplace for used and unique items, but it is open to select sellers only, with a waitlist for everyone else. Plan around the Verified Marketplace unless you already have access.
What selling looks like on each
On StockX you do not write a listing. You pick the product and size and set an ask, the price you will accept. When a buyer meets it, you get a postage label, pack the pair and drop it off. StockX’s team checks it against its condition guidelines, then sends it on. It is quick for sellers with a stack of identical sealed boxes, and it gives you no way to stand out except price.
On Depop the listing is yours. Your photos show the actual pair, the creasing, the sole wear and the box, and your description answers the sizing questions before buyers ask them. Buyers can message you and send offers, so price is a conversation. That takes more time per pair and suits one-offs, where good photos and honest notes are what sell them.
Fees and payouts on a £120 pair
On the Verified Marketplace, StockX charges a 3% payment processing fee plus a transaction fee set by your Seller Level. Level 1 pays 9%. It falls in steps to 7% at Level 5, which needs 800 sales and $100,000 a quarter. The minimum seller fee in Great Britain is £4.50. UK sellers pay £4.00 postage per single-item sale, deducted from the payout.

Depop removed selling fees in the UK in 2024 and then in the US, where the usual payment processing fee still applies and buyers pay a marketplace fee. Check the fee line in the Depop app before you price, then compare it with the £18.40 StockX takes on this pair. The gap is usually wide enough that sealed pairs are worth listing on Depop too.
Payouts differ as well. StockX pays a new, unworn sale once the pair passes verification, in its daily payout run. Sellers outside the US are paid through Hyperwallet, a PayPal service.
Buyer trust
StockX’s pitch to buyers is the check in the middle: the pair is inspected before it ships to them. For a limited release where fakes are common, some buyers will only pay full price with that check in place. On Depop your shop does that work instead, through clear photos and reviews from past buyers. A seller with a strong review history can sell the same sealed pair there without the StockX fee.

When a pair sells on Depop, FLUF ends the StockX ask. When it sells on StockX, open FLUF and mark it sold, and FLUF removes the Depop listing. Make that part of your routine when the StockX sale email arrives, because a second buyer on Depop means a cancelled order.
