Key takeaways

  • Place des Tendances is a premium-but-accessible fashion site from the Printemps group. Alongside the brands it buys wholesale, it runs a marketplace for selected partner brands under terms dated 28 September 2022.
  • Sellers must be registered businesses based in France or the EU, shipping from France or the EU, and delivering to mainland France only.
  • Only new products are accepted, and they have to suit the site’s positioning. Second-hand and vintage stock has no place here.
  • Place des Tendances charges a monthly subscription plus a commission on each sale. It does not publish the rates.
  • Once approved, you can connect your seller account in FLUF Connect and list stock whose barcodes are already in the Place des Tendances catalogue. FLUF does not create catalogue products or import orders.

This guide is for a fashion, beauty, kidswear or homeware brand that already sells to French customers and wants a place next to established labels. If you run a small premium label, a children’s brand or a home-textile studio and can answer customers in French within two days, Place des Tendances is worth an application. If you resell second-hand pieces, it is closed to you; Vinted or Vestiaire Collective fit that stock.

What Place des Tendances is

Place des Tendances was created in 2008 and belongs to the Printemps department-store group. The group’s newsroom describes it as a multi-brand site carrying more than 400 brands across menswear, womenswear, accessories, beauty and home, and reports that it was voted best multi-brand retailer in a 2022 Capital and Statista survey.

Most of what the site sells it buys from brands itself. The marketplace adds partner brands that sell their own stock on the same pages. On a product page, the line “vendu par” (sold by) followed by the seller’s name tells the customer who the seller is, according to the marketplace terms of use. The same product can be offered by Place des Tendances and by a partner at once, and the page shows both.

What you can sell

The terms set out what Place des Tendances looks for in a seller’s range. Products must be new and of good quality, you must hold the rights to sell them, and they must complement the site’s own offer while fitting its positioning. You also have to keep enough stock to honour orders and publish listings to the site’s marketplace guidelines on content, descriptions and photos.

The site’s own menus run across women, men, children, beauty and home, with a brands index and an outlet. In practice that makes the marketplace a good match for knitwear, leather goods, jewellery, children’s shoes and clothing, cosmetics, bed linen and decorative pieces with a recognisable brand behind them. Unbranded basics or fast-fashion lines will struggle against the selection criteria, which weigh your price positioning, product and brand image, and the quality of your catalogue.

Who can sell and how to apply

The terms limit the marketplace to professionals: businesses that are properly incorporated, entered on the relevant trade register and declared to the social-security and tax authorities. Individuals cannot sell. Your registered office must be in France or another EU country, you must ship from France or the EU, and you deliver to mainland France only.

To apply, write to [email protected], which the terms give as the first point of contact. If Place des Tendances takes you on, the relationship is governed by a seller contract that both sides sign. That contract is not public, so the commercial details you agree are known only to you and the site.

The terms also set a service standard. You must give customers French-language sales conditions and information, and your customer service must answer within 48 hours at most. Order handling, delivery times, packaging and carrier choice all count toward whether you stay listed.

Fees

Place des Tendances is paid in two ways, according to its marketplace terms: a monthly subscription paid by the seller, and a commission taken from the amounts due to the seller on each sale. Neither rate is published, and no integrator we found gives a reliable figure, so you will see the numbers only once you reach the contract stage.

The terms also mention paid visibility. Products can be sponsored, and sellers who buy the priority merchandising service are ranked first in marketplace listings. Budget for that if your brand is new to the site’s customers.

Two points affect your margin on every order. Place des Tendances discount codes, gift cards and offers do not apply to marketplace items unless stated, so your price is not cut by the site’s own promotions by default. And you set your own delivery charges, which customers pay per seller.

Payment, delivery and returns

Customers pay at Place des Tendances’ checkout by bank card. The site collects the money on your behalf and holds it in an escrow account until delivery is confirmed and the customer has not withdrawn from the sale. Plan your cash flow around that delay.

You prepare and ship every order yourself, using the delivery method the customer chose at checkout. The site’s marketplace page explains to customers that items from different partners arrive in separate parcels, each with that partner’s own delivery charges.

Returns come back to you, not to Place des Tendances. The terms say marketplace products are neither taken back nor exchanged by Place des Tendances or its group, and that the customer exercises the right of withdrawal with the seller, for at least 14 days from delivery. Legal guarantees of conformity and against hidden defects also run against you. Put your return conditions in the parcel, because the site asks partners to do so.

Is Place des Tendances right for you?

It suits an established French or EU brand with new, barcoded stock, a clear premium identity and the capacity to ship and answer customers in French quickly. The audience buys on brand and style, so a label with a story and good photography fits better than one competing on price.

It suits less well a reseller, a business outside the EU, or a seller who needs to reach buyers beyond mainland France. For other French department-store marketplaces, see Printemps, Galeries Lafayette and La Redoute.

Using FLUF Connect with Place des Tendances

Place des Tendances approves its own sellers, so FLUF has no application link for it. On the Channels screen in FLUF Connect its card is marked “Invite only” and covers one country, France. Once your shop is open and your products are in the Place des Tendances catalogue, choose “Already approved? Connect” on the card.

FLUF can then list items from your inventory that already exist in the Place des Tendances catalogue, matched by barcode. A brand that sells the same knitwear on its own website and other channels can offer those units on Place des Tendances from one inventory, while products without a barcode stay on your other channels.

FLUF does not see Place des Tendances orders, so a sale there does not lower your stock elsewhere. When an order takes your last unit of a size, mark it sold in FLUF and it comes down from the other marketplaces you list it on.

FLUF’s plans for businesses selling on several channels are on the pricing page. Start with 7 days for £1, then from £9/month to see the Channels screen with your own stock.
