Who should read this

You have designer bags, shoes, watches or clothing to sell, you are in France or elsewhere in Europe, and you are deciding where they go. Vinted is the obvious answer for most second-hand fashion. For a Chanel flap or a pair of Hermès sandals, the question is harder, because a buyer spending hundreds of euros wants proof the piece is real.

If your wardrobe is high-street brands, skip Joli Closet. It validates each listing against its own selection policy and may refuse items that do not fit. This comparison only matters when the label is one a luxury buyer searches for.

Fees on the same €500 bag

Joli Closet lists items at no charge and takes commission only when something sells. Its FAQ gives the rate as 18% plus a fixed fee, and the fixed fee covers shipping from you to its office. Its calculator shows a French seller receiving €402 on a €500 sale, which is €90 commission and the €8 fixed fee. From elsewhere in Europe the same sale pays €395. Total fees are capped at €1,400.

Vinted’s French site says there are zero selling fees, and what you earn is yours. The buyer carries the cost through Buyer Protection, which Vinted describes as usually 5% of the price plus €0.70. On a €500 bag the buyer pays €25.70 on top, plus postage, and you receive €500.

€500 bag, seller in France Seller receives Buyer pays, before postage
Joli Closet €402 €500
Vinted €500 €525.70

The €98 difference is the price of the check. Whether it is worth paying depends on whether the bag would sell at €500 on Vinted at all. Many buyers will not send that much to a stranger for an unverified designer piece, and those who will tend to bargain hard.

How selling works on each

Joli Closet. You fill in an online form with photos and a description, which the FAQ says takes two to five minutes per item. Joli Closet then reviews it. You propose the price, and the terms say prices that are far too high or too low are not accepted. Later changes to the listing also need approval. When the item sells, you confirm within 48 hours and send it to Joli Closet’s office, where the quality check happens within two days of arrival. An item that fails is not sent to the buyer, and you pay to have it returned.

Vinted. You photograph the item in the app, set a price and it is live. When it sells, you print the label and, in France, have five days to drop the parcel at a Point Relais. Your money is released once the buyer confirms receipt. There is no gatekeeper at the start and no inspector in the middle, which is faster and puts more weight on your photos and your reviews.

Buyers and returns

Joli Closet’s buyers come for luxury and expect the item to have been inspected. For items from individual sellers, the FAQ says returns are not possible unless the listing is marked as eligible for a courtesy return. Items from professional sellers carry a 14-day return right.

Vinted’s buyers are a far wider crowd. Most are looking for everyday fashion at low prices, and designer pieces sit among everything else. A buyer who receives something that does not match the listing raises it through Vinted after delivery.

Which should you choose?

  • Joli Closet for pieces worth several hundred euros or more, where an independent check helps the sale and you can wait for the right buyer.
  • Vinted for designer items at lower prices, contemporary brands, and anything Joli Closet would turn down.
  • Both for a luxury piece you want sold soon. List it in both places and take whichever buyer comes first.
