Selency vs Etsy: Where to Sell Vintage Furniture, Lighting and Décor

Selency moderates every listing and delivers bulky pieces; Etsy reaches a worldwide audience for vintage at least 20 years old. Who can sell, fees, delivery, payouts and how FLUF Connect runs both.

If you sell vintage furniture, lighting and décor from France or nearby, and most of your pieces are too big for a parcel, Selency is built for you: it moderates every listing, takes commission only when something sells and arranges carrier delivery for bulky items. Etsy is the better choice for smaller vintage pieces that travel by post, because it puts them in front of about 87 million buyers worldwide, at $0.20 a listing plus 6.5% of each sale and payment processing. Many dealers use both: big pieces on Selency, small ones on Etsy.

Is this for you?

This comparison is for a vintage or second-hand dealer, professional or private, choosing where to sell furniture, lamps, mirrors, ceramics and other home pieces. It is written with sellers in France and its neighbours in mind, since that is where Selency’s buyers are. If you sell clothing, Selency is not an option; Vinted is the usual alternative, compared in Vinted vs Etsy.

Who can sell, and what is accepted

Selency’s “Comment devenir vendeur ?” article says it is open to private individuals and to professionals in second-hand or craft furniture and décor. Professionals give their SIREN or business ID when they register. Signing up is free, and a dedicated team moderates every listing before it goes live. Its stated watchwords are authenticity, singularity, quality and care. Listings must follow Selency’s publishing rules: a precise title, and if a designer’s name cannot be proven, wording such as “dans le goût de” (in the style of) rather than the name on its own.

Etsy accepts handmade items, craft supplies and vintage, and its vintage policy sets the line at 20 years old. A 1990s rattan chair qualifies; a 2010 reproduction does not. Etsy does not review each listing before it goes live, so an honest description of the era is your responsibility, and listings that break the policy can be removed later.

What each one charges

Selency does not publish a percentage. Its commission article says the rate depends on whether you are a private or professional seller and on the category, with separate rates for craft and art, and that it is not negotiable. You see your rate when you register. There is no listing fee. If you want to make carrier delivery cheaper for the buyer, Selency’s optional Turbo lets you contribute between €20 and €80, deducted along with the commission once the order is confirmed.

Etsy’s fees policy charges $0.20 per listing, renewed every four months or whenever a unit sells, and a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus the shipping you charge. Payment processing comes on top; its processing fee article lists the rate for each country. Sellers in some countries also pay a regulatory operating fee, which Etsy raised in several European countries from 22 June 2026, Value Added Resource reported. If an Offsite Ads click leads to a sale, a further advertising fee applies.

Because Etsy’s transaction fee includes shipping, a large item with a high delivery charge costs more in fees than its price alone suggests. Selency’s commission is on the item, and the buyer pays delivery separately.

Getting a sideboard to the buyer

This is the real difference between the two. Selency’s delivery options are collection from you, small-parcel services (Chronopost, Colissimo or Mondial Relay), delivery by Selency’s partner carriers or by Cocolis, a shared-ride delivery service, and delivery by you within a zone and at a price you set. When an order arrives you have 72 hours to confirm it; for carrier delivery, Selency then books a collection and emails you the date.

On Etsy, shipping is yours to organise. You set a shipping profile with your prices and the countries you post to, and you buy the label or book the courier. That works well for a lamp, a vase or a set of glasses. For a wardrobe, you are quoting a freight price to a stranger in another country, which is why most dealers keep big furniture off Etsy or limit it to local collection.

When you get paid

Selency’s payout article, updated in May 2026, ties the timing to the delivery method. With delivery by Selency you are paid 3 days after the customer receives the item. With Cocolis, Mondial Relay or Colissimo it is 14 days after delivery, with collection 14 days after handover, and with your own delivery 14 days after shipping. Payouts need an active account with Selency’s payment provider, which asks for identity checks. Etsy pays out on its own schedule, which you choose in your Etsy Payments settings.

Buyers and reach

Etsy’s second-quarter 2026 shareholder letter reported about 87 million active buyers over the previous twelve months, most of them outside France. A French dealer on Etsy sells to collectors in the US, Germany and the UK, and pays international postage to reach them.

Selency does not publish buyer numbers. Its audience is people furnishing a home in France and nearby countries who came specifically for vintage design. That narrower audience is the reason a €900 Danish sideboard can sell there: the buyer is already looking for exactly that, and delivery to their door is part of the purchase.

Running both

Split by size and age. Furniture and anything that needs a van goes to Selency, where delivery is part of the service. Small pieces that fit in a box and are at least 20 years old go to Etsy as well, where an overseas collector may pay more. A piece that is newer than 20 years, such as a 2010s designer lamp, belongs on Selency only. For a third outlet in France, Leboncoin covers local buyers who collect.
