Sell on Selency: commission, listing rules and cross-listing with FLUF Connect
Which items Selency accepts, how its commission and payouts work, how moderation runs, and what FLUF Connect does on Selency today.
- Best for: vintage and second-hand furniture, lighting, décor, tableware, art and kids’ pieces. Clothing is not accepted.
- Commission: no single published rate. It depends on seller type, location and category, and Selency can change it on 15 days’ notice.
- Getting paid: through a Stripe account, 3 to 14 days after delivery depending on how the item ships.
- Refused: plastic, formica (except chairs), DIY or reworked pieces, and anything without a matching category.
- Moderation: a person checks every listing before it goes live. Plan for about two working days.
- Cross-list with FLUF Connect: Selency listings are created, edited and withdrawn from FLUF. Sales on Selency are not pulled into FLUF, so check your Selency orders yourself. See how cross-listing works.
Selency suits vintage and second-hand home pieces: furniture, lighting, décor, tableware and art. If most of your stock is clothing, electronics or new goods, it is the wrong channel. If it is home and design stock, check each piece against the rules below before you spend time on photos.
Is Selency right for your stock?
Selency sorts every listing into one of eight categories: Furniture (Meubler), Seating (S’asseoir), Lighting (Éclairer), Décor (Décorer), Tableware (Art de la table), Art, Kids and Garden, which runs seasonally. An item with no matching category is not accepted.
The selection charter also refuses some pieces that are otherwise in scope:
- Plastic, except pieces from known designers
- Formica, except chairs
- Tin and copper, except pieces from known designers
- DIY or significantly reworked pieces
- Functional items with no decorative value, such as kitchen utensils or musical instruments
- Small kitsch objects and heavy ornamentation
- Furniture with more than two colours, visible wallpaper or upholstery, or garish colours
A plastic chair from a known designer can pass. An ordinary one will not. Read the charter itself before you list anything borderline, because the team applies it piece by piece.
What is Selency?
Selency is a French online marketplace for vintage and second-hand furniture, lighting, décor, tableware, art and children’s pieces. Private people and professional sellers both sell there. Prices are set in euros. Selency’s terms describe the platform as a place where independent sellers and buyers meet, and Selency earns a commission on each sale made through it.
How much does Selency charge?
Registration is free, and you pay commission only when an item sells. Selency does not publish one commission rate on its public help pages. Its terms say the rate depends on whether you sell as a professional or a private seller, whether you are based in France or abroad, and the category. Art and craft (Artisanat) and Art each have their own rate. The rate that applies to you is stated when you create a listing or in a message from Selency.
Selency works out the commission on the item price, excluding delivery. It can change the rate, but its terms require 15 calendar days’ notice sent by email.
Selency also offers an optional “Turbo” contribution of €20 to €80 towards carrier delivery. You choose it. Selency deducts it, together with the commission, once the order is validated.
- Commission = your rate × item price, excluding delivery
- Turbo, if you choose it: €20 to €80, deducted after the order is validated
- You keep = item price − commission − Turbo (if chosen)
Ask Selency for your rate before you price stock. Third-party guides quote different percentages, and none of them is Selency’s own figure, so do not price from them.
When does Selency pay you?
Selency pays through Stripe. Selency triggers the payout, and Stripe usually transfers the money one to two business days later. The timing depends on how the item ships.
| How the item ships | When Selency pays you |
|---|---|
| Delivered by Selency | 3 days after delivery |
| Cocolis, Mondial Relay, Colissimo, your own delivery, or pickup from you | 14 days after delivery, shipment or handover |
| Super Pro sellers | Faster, on the day of delivery |
Setting up your Selency seller account
You need a Selency seller account and a Stripe account to be paid. Private sellers must be 18 or over. Professional sellers give their SIREN company number when they sign up and can add a VAT number. Stripe runs identity checks on everyone. Companies also need an identity document, a company registration extract (Kbis) dated within the last three months, and the articles of association.
| Private seller | Professional seller | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it is for | Individuals aged 18 or over | Businesses with a SIREN number |
| Commission | The private-seller rate | The professional rate, which can differ |
| Payouts | Stripe account with identity checks | Stripe account plus company documents |
Creating listings that pass review
A person reads every listing, so the basics matter more than the sales copy. Selency asks for at least two different photos. It cuts out the main photo itself, so the whole item needs to be visible, uncropped and uncluttered.
Titles should describe the piece fully and objectively. Selency lets you name a designer only with wording such as “in the style of”, “inspired by” or “à la manière de”, unless you can prove where the piece comes from. Rugs and mirrors need their dimensions in the title. A lot must say how many items it contains.
Descriptions cover material, condition, defects and history. Be specific about wear and damage. Selency’s terms also say the price must not be manifestly excessive, and it must match the price you show on other channels.
| Requirement | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
| Photos | At least two different photos, with the whole item visible and uncropped |
| Title | Type, material, era and dimensions. Designer names only with provenance |
| Description | Material, condition, defects and history |
| Category | One of the eight Selency categories |
| Price | Not manifestly excessive, and the same as on your other channels |
Before: “Old wooden table”
After (example): “Oak drop-leaf dining table, 1950s, 110 × 75 cm, minor ring marks on the top”
The “after” version tells the reviewer what the piece is, how big it is and what condition it is in. Those are the three things the charter asks a listing to show.
How long does moderation take?
Every listing is checked by hand before it goes live. Selency’s help centre says the team reviews listings seven days a week, one at a time, and may ask you to change something first. Selency does not publish a turnaround time. In FLUF’s experience a listing goes live about two working days after it is sent. Plan stock launches around that wait.
Orders, delivery and returns
When a buyer orders, you have 72 hours to confirm the item is still available. If you cannot, the order is cancelled and the buyer is not charged.
The buyer pays for delivery. Selency offers several routes: pickup from you, a small parcel by Chronopost or Colissimo to the home, or Mondial Relay to a pickup point, carrier delivery through Selency’s partners or Cocolis, or your own delivery with your own zone, price and delivery time. The default delivery deadline is 30 days.
Selency also covers sending abroad through its own delivery. It asks professionals for product details and an EORI number, and private sellers for an identity document. Switzerland needs an invoice, items over €1,000 need a SIRET number, and some woods need CITES paperwork.
On Selency and Cocolis deliveries, buyers must report damage within 48 hours, and should refuse a damaged parcel on the day if they can. Buyers of private sellers have no withdrawal right under Selency’s terms. Buyers of professional sellers have consumer rights, including the right to withdraw.
Reviews, and listings that go quiet
Buyers rate you from one to five stars after delivery. Sellers cannot reply to reviews, but buyers can report offensive ones. Selency checks reviews by algorithm and can refuse one by hand.
A listing with no availability update for a long time is paused. For private sellers that is 30 days, and for professional sellers 60 days. A paused listing can be republished in one click. A removed listing cannot be reactivated. If you want to sell the piece again, you create a new listing, and it goes through moderation again.
Tax on Selency sales
Selency’s help centre says that for private sellers in France, income tax can apply once you pass 20 sales or €3,000 in a year. Furniture sold to private buyers is an exception to that rule. Tax rules change and depend on where you live, so treat this as general guidance, not tax advice. Speak to a qualified accountant about your own position, especially if you sell from outside France.
What the Selency team looks for
Selency’s charter sets out what a good listing shows: sound condition, clear dimensions, an honest account of wear and a plain background in the photos. The categories tell you where the marketplace is aimed. Furniture and seating sit at the centre, with lighting, décor, tableware and art around them. Kids’ pieces and garden items have their own categories, and garden items are seasonal.
Common mistakes on Selency
- Sending two photos from the same angle. Selency wants two different photos with the whole item visible. Add a close-up of a detail or a flaw.
- Leaving dimensions out of the title. Rugs and mirrors need them there, and a reviewer will send back a listing that lacks them.
- Naming a designer you cannot prove. Use “in the style of” or “inspired by” unless you can show where the piece comes from.
- Listing a refused material. Plastic, formica, tin and copper can all be refused, so check the charter before you photograph the piece.
- Assuming a Selency sale shows up in FLUF. It does not. Check your Selency orders and take the item off your other channels yourself.
- Missing the 72-hour confirmation window. If you do not confirm availability in time, the order is cancelled.
Cross-list your Selency stock with FLUF Connect
Selency takes home and design pieces only, so it works best alongside channels that take more of your stock. Many sellers also list on eBay, Depop or Vinted. FLUF Connect lets you manage Selency from the same dashboard.
You connect Selency with your Selency email and password. There is no browser extension to install, and the FLUF phone app works the same way. From FLUF you can:
- List items to Selency with photos, price, dimensions, and the style, material and colour fields where the form asks for them
- Edit a listing’s title, description and price, and FLUF sends the change to Selency
- Withdraw a listing from Selency. Withdrawal is permanent on Selency, so do it deliberately
- Take an item off Selency when it sells on another channel
FLUF does not bring Selency orders into the dashboard, and it does not relist items or manage offers on Selency. Those steps stay with you.
| Crosslisting | List to Selency from FLUF Connect. |
| Inventory Sync | When an item sells elsewhere, FLUF takes it off Selency for you. |
| Order Sync | Sales on Selency are not detected automatically. Remove sold items from your other channels yourself. |
In practice, that means FLUF handles the listing and the withdrawal. You handle the Selency sale: confirm within 72 hours, arrange delivery, and take the piece off your other channels when Selency tells you it has sold.
