Sell on Back Market: who gets in, what buyers are promised, and how FLUF Connect fits
Back Market is the refurbished-electronics marketplace, open to vetted refurbishers and businesses only. Who it admits, what it promises buyers, the fees to ask about, and what FLUF Connect does once you are approved.
7 days for £1, then from £9/month.
- Back Market sells refurbished electronics only, through about 1,800 professional refurbishers and verified businesses in 17 countries. Private sellers cannot join.
- Every new seller is vetted: legal documents, the Quality Charter, approval by an onboarding team and a Seller Success Manager, then a trial period with mystery orders.
- Buyers get a 1-year warranty and 30-day free returns on every order, and sellers run the after-sales service behind that promise.
- Back Market does not publish its commission on a public page. The fee schedule comes with your seller contract, so ask for it before you commit stock.
- Once approved, FLUF Connect lists your stock against Back Market’s catalogue by barcode, pulls Back Market orders in, and takes an item off Back Market when it sells elsewhere.
This guide is for a business that refurbishes phones, laptops, tablets, consoles or appliances and wants a second or third outlet for them. If you already sell refurbished devices on eBay or Amazon, Back Market is the marketplace whose whole audience came for exactly that. If you sell used fashion, collectables or anything that is not electronics, this is not your channel; Vinted, Depop or eBay will serve you better. The facts below come from Back Market’s own seller, quality and press pages, checked in October 2026.
What Back Market is
Back Market is a marketplace for refurbished electronics, founded in Paris in 2014. It does not refurbish anything itself. Its “Who sells on Back Market?” page describes it as a third-party marketplace that connects buyers to sellers who refurbish devices or sell refurbished stock. Its seller page puts the supply side at about 1,800 professional sellers across 17 countries and more than 200 categories.
The demand side is large for a single-category site. Back Market’s September 2025 press release says it serves 17 million customers, forecast more than €3 billion in gross merchandise value for 2025, and grew 30% year on year in the second quarter. France is its largest market, the United States its second, with the UK and Germany next and Spain fifth. Italy, Austria and Portugal were growing at triple-digit rates. It also sells to businesses: the same release counts nearly 6,000 company customers in France and 250 in the United States for its business-to-business offer.
The categories on the site’s menu are smartphones, laptops, tablets, game consoles, smartwatches, audio, home appliances, desktop computers, cameras, TVs and home cinema, electric mobility and retro tech. Back Market’s seller article sums up what sellers may list as “refurbished electronics such as smartphones, laptops, tablets, appliances, and accessories”, all of which must meet its quality standards and local regulations.
Who can sell
Back Market admits “professional refurbishers and verified businesses that meet strict quality, sustainability, and customer service criteria”, and nobody else. Its seller article lists the kinds of companies it works with: factories that refurbish end-of-life devices, repair shops and refurbishing workshops, recyclers who part out devices, traders and wholesalers of refurbished batches, leasing companies that refurbish returned fleets, and manufacturers, major retailers and mobile operators selling returned stock.
Onboarding has fixed steps, all described on that page:
- You apply with specific legal documentation about your business.
- You sign the Sellers Terms and Conditions and the Back Market Quality Charter, which sets the inspections and tests every device must pass.
- The onboarding team and a Seller Success Manager both approve you. The Seller Success Manager stays your contact afterwards.
- Your account is set up and you start selling under a trial period with extra quality checks.
Those checks do not stop after the trial. Back Market’s Innovation Lab, its quality team, ranks sellers on customer reviews, complaint rates, return and refund ratios and delivery times, and places mystery orders to inspect the device, the packaging and the delivery. A seller whose numbers drop can be warned, limited or suspended. Plan your testing, packing and dispatch to those four measures from the first order.
What buyers are promised, and what that means for you
Back Market’s quality page makes four promises to every buyer: refurbishment to its charter, a 1-year warranty, 30-day free returns, and Express Replacement, where a replacement ships before the faulty device comes back. It also sets a floor for batteries: at least 80% battery health with full charge capacity, and every device factory reset, data-wiped and cleaned.
The seller is the one who honours those promises. Price in a year of warranty claims, a 30-day change-of-mind window and the cost of replacing a device before you have the original back. Back Market’s seller page also offers a paid after-sales service, “Customer Care by Back Market”, for sellers who would rather not run support themselves, and a Seller Support Center with guides and one-to-one help.
Fees, payouts and seller tools
Back Market does not publish a commission table or a monthly fee on a public page, and its seller help centre is only open to approved sellers. The numbers arrive with your contract. Before you sign, ask your onboarding contact for:
- the commission on each category you sell, and whether it is charged on the price alone or on price plus shipping;
- any monthly fee or deposit;
- the payout schedule and how disputed orders are handled;
- who pays return shipping on a change-of-mind return, and on a warranty return.
The seller page lists what Back Market offers in return: a seller hub for listings, orders, quality metrics and finance; pricing insights and trend data; faster cash payouts and lending for eligible sellers; two sourcing programmes, Trade-in and BuyBulk; a Back Market Pro channel for business buyers; and an Incubator Program and key account management for eligible sellers.
One worked example of the cost of the buyer promise rather than the commission: a £300 refurbished phone returned inside the free 30-day window comes back to you to re-test, re-grade and relist. If one in twenty orders comes back, that is £15 of handling risk on every £300 sale before Back Market’s own fee.
How listing works
Back Market works from a shared catalogue. A product page, say a 128 GB iPhone 13, exists once, and every seller attaches an offer to it with their own price, stock, condition grade and warranty. The title, photos and description on that page belong to Back Market, so you cannot write your own. What you control is the grade, the price and how fast you ship. Back Market shows one offer per grade at a time, so sellers compete on price and on the quality indicators above.
Each listing needs a barcode (EAN or UPC) that matches a product already in the catalogue. If you refurbish a model Back Market does not list, you ask Back Market to add it; you cannot create the product page yourself.
Using FLUF Connect with Back Market
FLUF Connect does not get you approved. Once Back Market has accepted you, connect your seller account from the Channels screen in FLUF Connect. The card lists 16 countries, because that is where FLUF can place your offers once you are in. You create a connection key in your Back Market back office, paste it into FLUF, choose the country you sell in and set your warranty in months (Back Market’s minimum is 12). Europe and the UK, the United States, and Japan and Australia are separate Back Market seller accounts, so use a key from the one you sell on.

After you connect, FLUF imports the offers you already have on Back Market, so your other channels and Back Market share one stock count from day one.
| Task | On Back Market through FLUF Connect |
|---|---|
| Apply and be accepted as a seller | You do this with Back Market |
| Connect your seller account | Yes, from the Channels screen |
| List an item on a product already in Back Market’s catalogue (barcode match) | Yes. Back Market reviews each new listing before it goes live, so it shows as sent for review first. |
| Create a new product page in the catalogue | No |
| Set and change price, stock and warranty | Yes |
| Edit the title, photos or description | No. They come from Back Market’s product page. |
| Item sells elsewhere | FLUF sets its Back Market stock to zero, which takes the offer offline |
| Item sells on Back Market | The order appears in FLUF and the item comes off your other channels |
| Mark an order shipped | Yes, from FLUF Orders with the tracking number. You can also do it in Back Market. |
| Relisting, offer management, smart pricing | No |
Your item’s condition in FLUF becomes Back Market’s grade: like new is Excellent, very good is Very good, good is Good, fair is Fair. Anything in worse condition than fair cannot be listed, so grade honestly in FLUF and the same grade goes to Back Market. If a listing never appears, the barcode did not match a Back Market product or Back Market declined it; the reason shows in your FLUF listings log.
Back Market is a business channel, and FLUF’s plans for businesses selling on several marketplaces are on the pricing page. The same connection runs your eBay and Amazon listings alongside, so a phone sold on any of the three disappears from the other two.
Is Back Market right for you?
Yes, if you are a registered refurbisher or electronics business that can document its process, test to a checklist, carry a year of warranty and absorb 30-day returns. The audience is the largest you will find for refurbished devices alone, and the vetting keeps out the sellers who would undercut you with untested stock. No, if you sell devices as-is, cannot grade consistently, or want to write your own listings. And no, if you are not a business, because Back Market will not let you in.

No. Back Market only admits professional refurbishers and verified businesses, and each one is vetted before it can list. A private seller with one or two used phones should look at eBay instead.
Not on any public page. Back Market's help centre is only open to approved sellers, and the commission and any monthly fee arrive with the seller contract. Ask for the rate in each category you sell, and for who pays return shipping, before you sign.
Every order on Back Market comes with a 1-year warranty and free returns for 30 days, and the seller honours both. Back Market's minimum warranty is 12 months.
Back Market's seller page says it has customers in 17 countries. Through FLUF Connect you can place offers in 16 of them: France, Belgium, Spain, Germany, Austria, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Portugal, Ireland, Greece, Slovakia, Sweden, the United States, Japan and Australia.
No. Each product has one page that every seller shares, with Back Market's title, photos and description. You attach an offer to it with your price, stock, condition grade and warranty, matched by the item's barcode.
If both channels are connected to FLUF Connect, FLUF sets the Back Market stock to zero as soon as the eBay sale comes in, which takes the offer offline. A sale on Back Market works the other way and ends the eBay listing.
No. You apply to Back Market directly, sign its terms and Quality Charter and pass its onboarding. FLUF Connect works once you have an approved seller account.
Back Market checks every new listing before it goes live, so a listing sent from FLUF shows as under review first. If it never appears, the barcode did not match a product in Back Market's catalogue or Back Market declined it, and the reason shows in your listings log.
