Key Takeaways: TikTok Shop to Amazon.co.uk

  • Check your condition first. Amazon UK accepts only New items in Apparel, Shoes and bags, Sports, Baby, Pet and Grocery, and in anything consumable or applied to the skin. New, boxed TikTok Shop stock fits.
  • Pick a selling plan. Individual costs £0.75 per item sold and Professional £25 a month, both excluding VAT.
  • Have a barcode ready. Branded goods usually match an existing Amazon product page. Own-brand, generic and handmade goods can get a barcode exemption.
  • Fees work differently. TikTok Shop UK takes 9% of each order. Amazon’s referral fee depends on the category.
  • With FLUF: a TikTok Shop sale ends the Amazon listing. An Amazon sale is not detected, so you mark it sold in FLUF, and FLUF then updates your TikTok Shop stock. FLUF’s TikTok Shop support covers UK sellers.
  • Cost: 7 days for £1, then from £9/month, then plans from £9/month.

Is Amazon.co.uk right for your TikTok Shop stock?

It is if you sell new, sealed stock. Amazon’s UK condition guidelines allow only New items in Apparel, Shoes and handbags, Sports, Baby, Pet and Grocery. Every consumable, ingestible or topical product must also be New, which covers Beauty, Health Care and Vitamins & Dietary Supplements. Open-box, returned or used stock in those categories cannot go on Amazon at all.

The same guidelines say you may need Amazon’s approval to list certain products. If you sell beauty or supplements on TikTok Shop, check your category in Seller Central before you plan a launch date.

This route suits a UK TikTok Shop business with new stock that wants a second kind of buyer. TikTok Shop buyers often find a product in a video. Amazon buyers usually arrive by typing what they want into a search box.

What Amazon.co.uk refuses in any condition

The condition guidelines also list items Amazon will not accept at all. Check stock from job lots or mixed suppliers against them.

  • copies, counterfeits, replicas and imitations
  • promotional copies, product samples and promotional bundles
  • items past their expiry, “best by” or “sell by” date, or with that date removed or tampered with
  • items missing essential parts, or that need repair or servicing
  • new electrical items without CE or UKCA conformity markings
  • items a manufacturer, supplier or retailer marked as unsellable or meant for disposal

For Baby, Pet and Grocery, New means unused and unopened, in the original packaging with any protective wrapping intact. Once you choose a listing’s condition, you cannot change it later, so set it carefully on the first attempt.

Amazon selling plans and barcodes

Amazon.co.uk has two selling plans. Individual costs £0.75 per item sold, excluding VAT. Professional costs £25 a month, excluding VAT, however much you sell. At 34 or more sales a month, Professional costs less. The same page lists what Professional adds: bulk listing, inventory management with feeds, spreadsheets and reports, on-site advertising, promotions such as free shipping, and extra users on one account.

Most items on Amazon share one product page, and each seller adds an offer to it. GS1 UK’s Amazon guide tells you to find the product and add your offer with “I have one to sell” when it is already listed. A GS1 barcode on the packaging is the usual way to make that match. Own-brand, generic and handmade goods can get a GTIN exemption, and Amazon then gives the product its own identifier.

Fees: TikTok Shop’s 9% against Amazon’s referral fee

TikTok Shop UK charges a 9% commission, VAT included. It applies to net sales plus the shipping the customer pays, less refunds. TikTok’s category commission page says new sellers, Electronics sellers and some Beauty & Personal Care categories can get a lower rate.

Amazon charges a referral fee on the total the buyer pays, delivery included. Amazon’s UK pricing page sets a £0.25 minimum per item, says most rates fall between 8% and 15%, and lists these among its categories:

Category Referral fee
Clothing and accessories 5% up to £15, 10% from £15 to £20, 15% above £20
Consumer electronics and computers 7%
Beauty, health and personal care 8% up to £10, 15% above
Home products 8% up to £20, 15% above
Toys and games 15%
Pet clothing and food 5% up to £10, 15% above

Worked example: a £45 phone accessory

You sell a phone charger for £45 with free UK delivery.

  • TikTok Shop: 9% of £45 is £4.05.
  • Amazon, Individual plan: 7% of £45 is £3.15, plus £0.75 for the sale. That makes £3.90.
  • Amazon, Professional plan: the same £3.15, plus a share of £25. Across 30 sales a month, that share is about 83p, so roughly £3.98.

The electronics rate keeps Amazon close to TikTok Shop here. A £45 toy at 15% costs £6.75 in referral fees alone, so check the rate for each category you plan to move. Also note that Amazon quotes its plan fees excluding VAT, while TikTok’s 9% includes VAT.

VAT across both channels

You must register for VAT once your taxable turnover is more than £90,000, and you can register below that if you choose. The threshold applies to your whole business. Amazon sales add to your TikTok Shop turnover, so a second channel can take you over the limit sooner. An accountant can confirm what applies to you.

Returns on Amazon.co.uk

Amazon’s returns policy page says Amazon.co.uk and many of its sellers accept returns on most items within 30 days of delivery. The same page sets out the statutory rights underneath that. A buyer can cancel for any reason within 14 days, counting from the day the parcel arrives, and gets the original delivery cost back at the cheapest rate. Buyers also have rights when goods are not as described, not fit for purpose or not of satisfactory quality.

Those statutory rights apply to your TikTok Shop orders as well. What changes on Amazon is the longer voluntary window, so price Amazon listings with a few extra returns in mind.

Frequently Asked Questions

FLUF Connect starts with a 7-day trial for £1, then plans from £9 a month. Starter has unlimited listings and includes crosslisting, inventory sync, order sync and bulk operations, which covers this route. Amazon charges separately: £0.75 per item sold on the Individual plan or £25 a month on Professional, both excluding VAT, plus a referral fee that depends on the category.

Partly on its own. When an item sells on TikTok Shop, FLUF ends the Amazon listing. FLUF does not detect Amazon sales, so when an item sells there you mark it sold in FLUF and FLUF updates your TikTok Shop stock.

Not in Apparel, Shoes and handbags, Sports, Baby, Pet or Grocery, where Amazon UK accepts only New items. Consumable, ingestible and topical products, such as beauty and supplements, must also be New.

Usually. Most items share one Amazon product page and you add your offer to it, and a GS1 barcode is the normal way to match. Own-brand, generic and handmade goods can apply for a GTIN exemption instead.

It depends on the category. TikTok Shop UK takes 9%, VAT included. Amazon’s electronics rate is 7%, so a £45 charger costs £3.15 in referral fees, while a £45 toy at 15% costs £6.75. Add Amazon’s plan fee before you compare.

Yes. The £90,000 VAT threshold applies to your whole business’s taxable turnover, so sales on both channels add together. Ask an accountant about your own position.

No. FLUF supports UK TikTok Shop sellers only. On the Amazon side, FLUF can list on Amazon.co.uk and other Amazon marketplaces, including .com, .de, .fr, .it, .es and .nl.
