Short answer: the Buyer Protection fee is the charge Vinted adds to every order at checkout. The buyer pays it, not the seller. In the UK it is usually 3% to 8% of the item price plus £0.30 to £0.80, VAT included — about £1.70 on a £20 item. Sellers pay no selling fee, so a seller keeps the full price they listed at.

What the Buyer Protection fee is

Vinted charges buyers rather than sellers. Every order placed through Vinted carries a Buyer Protection fee. It is mandatory, it is added automatically at checkout, and it pays for the cover that lets a buyer get their money back if an order goes wrong.

You see it before you buy: each listing shows a price breakdown with the fee included, and the order summary at checkout shows the total fee, which already includes VAT.

How much is it?

Vinted says the fee is typically a percentage of the item or bundle price plus a fixed amount — usually 3% to 8% + £0.30 to £0.80 in the UK. The exact amount depends on:

  • the item’s characteristics,
  • the order value,
  • whether it is a single item or a bundle.

Here is what that looks like at a common rate of 5% + £0.70:

Item price Buyer Protection fee Buyer pays (before postage) Seller receives
£5 £0.95 £5.95 £5
£10 £1.20 £11.20 £10
£20 £1.70 £21.70 £20
£50 £3.20 £53.20 £50
£100 £5.70 £105.70 £100

Your own figure may sit anywhere in Vinted’s range; the listing’s price breakdown shows the real one. Because part of the fee is fixed, it is a bigger share of cheap items, which is one reason bundles are better value for buyers.

Who pays it: the buyer or the seller?

The buyer. It is added on top of the item price and never comes out of the seller’s money. Vinted charges sellers no selling fee on a standard sale: list an item at £20 and £20 is what reaches your Vinted balance. Postage is paid by the buyer too, on top.

What the buyer gets for it

The fee pays for Vinted’s Buyer Protection: if an item never arrives, arrives damaged, or is significantly not as described, the buyer can report it in the order within the time Vinted allows and get a refund. The money is only released to the seller once the order is completed.

That cover only exists for orders paid through Vinted’s checkout. A seller who asks to be paid another way — bank transfer, a payment app — is asking you to give up that protection, and it breaks Vinted’s rules. Don’t.

What it means for sellers

  • Price for the total the buyer sees. Buyers compare your price plus their fee and postage. A price a little lower can bring an item inside a buyer’s budget filter.
  • Encourage bundles. The fixed part of the fee is charged once per order, so a bundle is cheaper for your buyer than separate orders — a good reason to offer a bundle discount.
  • Compare marketplaces by what you keep. On Vinted you keep your full price; on marketplaces that charge sellers, a percentage comes off. The Vinted fee calculator puts the same sale on every marketplace in your country side by side.

Buyer Protection fees in other countries

The fee works the same way on Vinted’s other sites — France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and the rest of its European markets — charged in local currency. The percentage and fixed amount can differ by country, so check the price breakdown on the listing.

Sell on Vinted and your other marketplaces at once

Because Vinted charges sellers nothing, it is a strong place to list — but it is one audience. FLUF lists an item on Vinted and on marketplaces such as eBay, Depop and Vestiaire Collective from a single listing, and takes it down everywhere else the moment it sells on one, so you never sell the same item twice. Vinted connects through the FLUF browser extension or the FLUF mobile app.

Frequently Asked Questions

A mandatory fee Vinted adds to every order at checkout. It pays for the cover that refunds the buyer if an item does not arrive, arrives damaged or is significantly not as described.

In the UK it is usually 3% to 8% of the item or bundle price plus £0.30 to £0.80, VAT included. It depends on the item, the order value and whether it is a bundle. The listing's price breakdown shows the exact fee.

No. The buyer pays it on top of the item price. Vinted charges sellers no selling fee on a standard sale, so the seller receives the full listed price.

Not on an order through Vinted: the fee is mandatory. Paying a seller outside Vinted to avoid it means losing Buyer Protection and breaks Vinted's rules.

Usually, yes, as a share of the order. The fixed part of the fee is charged once per order, so one bundle costs the buyer less in fees than the same items bought separately.
