Key takeaways

  • Vinted is safe to buy and sell on as long as every payment goes through the Buy now button. Orders paid that way are covered by Vinted’s refund policy if the parcel is lost, arrives damaged or is significantly not as described.
  • The cover is funded by the Vinted fee, which the buyer pays at checkout. In the UK it is usually 3% to 8% of the price plus £0.30 to £0.80.
  • Pay outside Vinted, by bank transfer, PayPal or a link someone sends you, and the protection is gone. Vinted says it cannot help with those payments.
  • Most Vinted scams follow the same script: a message that tries to move you off the app, a payment link, a QR code or a sense of urgency. Vinted’s own advice is to stay in the app, ignore the link and report the member.
  • Sellers are protected too. The buyer’s payment is held until the order completes, Vinted labels come with tracking and compensation for lost or damaged parcels, and you are paid within 2 days of completion.

You are either about to buy something on Vinted for the first time, or you have stock to sell and want to know what happens if a buyer claims a parcel never arrived. This page answers both from Vinted’s own UK help pages and price list, checked in October 2026. The short answer is that Vinted is as safe as the way you pay. Use the checkout and you are covered. Step outside it and you are on your own.

What protects buyers

Every order placed with the Buy now button is covered by Vinted’s refund policy. You can get your money back if the item does not arrive, arrives damaged, or is significantly not as described. If the item simply does not fit or you have changed your mind, a return only happens if the seller agrees, unless you bought from a Pro seller, where the 14-day right of withdrawal applies.

The cover is paid for by the Vinted fee, a mandatory platform fee added at checkout. According to the UK price list it is usually 3% to 8% of the item or bundle price plus a fixed £0.30 to £0.80, VAT included. You see it in the price breakdown on every listing before you buy. Among the things Vinted says the fee pays for is applying the refund policy when an item bought from a non-professional seller is lost, damaged or not as described.

The buying safely page spells out the other side of the deal. If you pay outside Vinted’s system, without the Buy now button, your purchase is not protected and Vinted will not be able to offer support. That single sentence is the answer to most “is Vinted safe” questions. The platform is safe. Paying someone directly is not.

How a problem gets fixed

The process runs inside the order conversation, and the clock is short. You have 2 days from Vinted telling you the parcel should have been delivered to press “I have an issue”. If you do nothing in that time, or press “Everything is OK”, the order completes and the seller is paid. Vinted asks for photos of the damage, the packaging, or the part of the item that does not match the listing, then you press “Send to seller” and the order is suspended while it is sorted out.

From there the seller can offer a partial refund, a full refund with you keeping the item, or ask for the item back. If you cannot agree, or the seller does not reply, you contact Vinted from the same screen. When a return is needed, the buyer normally pays return shipping, though the seller can agree to cover it. Vinted’s return options include an integrated label or your own tracked parcel, in which case you share the tracking number and photos of the packed item and the label with the seller.

Bought from a Pro seller? The Pro return policy gives you 14 days from receiving the parcel to press “I have an issue” and request a return for any reason, and the seller then has 2 business days to accept the return or refund you without one. Request it through Vinted. A return arranged by message alone is not protected by the refund policy.

The scams Vinted warns about

Vinted’s phishing and scams page describes how most attempts work. Someone impersonates Vinted, or builds a message or website that looks like it, to get your login, password or card details. The channels are messages on Vinted, text messages, emails and QR codes sent as attachments. The page’s own list of warning signs is worth memorising:

  • Being led off Vinted. Scammers try to move you to another app, a phone number or a website to get your details or your money. Vinted’s advice is to stay on Vinted for the whole order and treat any message that pushes you elsewhere as a red flag.
  • Urgency. Time limits, “open this link before it expires”, threats that your account will be blocked or the order cancelled. Real Vinted processes do not need you to hurry.
  • Payment links and codes. Buyers get a link to “complete” a purchase; sellers get told the payment is waiting and they must click to “receive” it. Both lead to fake payment pages. Nothing in a real Vinted order asks you to enter card details in a chat or on an outside page.
  • Emails from the wrong domain. Vinted asks you to forward suspicious emails to [email protected] rather than click anything in them.

If you have already been caught, Vinted lists the order of actions: report it to Vinted with screenshots and the member’s profile, freeze the bank card or account involved, change passwords on anything that might be compromised, ask your bank whether the payment can be reversed, and go to the police if money was taken. Vinted also states plainly that it cannot be held responsible for losses from scams, which is one more reason to keep every payment inside the app.

Reporting a member or a listing

Reporting takes four taps and is explained on the report a member or listing page. On a listing, open the three-dot menu (the flag symbol on desktop), choose Report, pick a reason and submit. On a profile, the three dots are in the top right. In a chat, use the info symbol in the top-right corner. Vinted asks you to report counterfeit goods, misleading photos or descriptions, prohibited items, fake listings, multiple accounts run by one person, and messages containing scams, phishing, harassment or abuse. You need to be logged in to report anything except an advert.

What protects sellers

Sellers get three things from the same system. First, the money. When a buyer checks out, Vinted holds the payment. Once the order is completed, which happens when the buyer presses “Everything is OK” or 2 days after delivery with no issue raised, the payment moves from pending to available balance within 2 days and you can withdraw it to your bank. A buyer cannot receive the item and then reverse the payment outside the process. Orders from Pro sellers complete after 14 days because of the buyer’s right of withdrawal.

Second, shipping. On Vinted the buyer pays for postage and picks the courier at checkout, and you receive a prepaid Vinted label by email and in your inbox. The how shipping works page is firm about using the label you were sent: parcels sent with a different courier cannot be tracked, and Vinted will cancel the order and refund the buyer. You have 5 business days to send, extendable by 3 or 5 more if the buyer agrees. Keep the drop-off receipt until the order completes.

Third, compensation. Vinted’s page on returns and compensation confirms you may be compensated if an item is lost or damaged on the way to the buyer when it was sent with an integrated Vinted label, and that for parcels sent any other way you have to deal with the carrier yourself. When a buyer returns an item, you have 2 days to confirm it came back in the expected condition and to report it if something is missing or damaged.

The seller-side scam to know is the “payment waiting” message. A real sale shows up in your Vinted inbox and balance, never as a link you must click to release funds. Vinted’s own page on seller safety also tells you never to give a buyer your bank details, because the payment arrives through your Vinted balance.

Securing your account

Email verification is required for every member. Beyond that, Vinted offers 2-step verification: you add a phone number under Settings, then Security, and Vinted sends a 4-digit code when it sees unusual activity on the account. If you receive a code without having done anything, the page recommends changing your password. You can also link a Google or Facebook account, which shows other members that your profile is verified and, in Vinted’s words, adds credibility that can boost your sales. Vinted does not post to those accounts and you can unlink them at any time.

For higher-value items, the price list describes two optional buyer-paid services: Item Verification at £10 and Electronics Verification at £5, where the parcel goes to a Vinted hub to be checked before it reaches the buyer. Listings that qualify show a banner with the price.

What people say about it

Reviews are split. On Trustpilot, vinted.co.uk sat at 2.9 out of 5 from roughly 74,000 reviews when we checked in October 2026, with a large share of five-star reviews about value and ease of use and a large share of one-star reviews about slow support, unexplained account blocks and delivery disputes. Both fit a marketplace where the automated protection works well and human escalation can be slow. So as a buyer, raise any issue inside the 2-day window with photos. As a seller, ship with the Vinted label and keep the receipt. Either way the dispute is then decided on evidence Vinted already holds.

Selling on Vinted alongside other marketplaces

If you sell the same stock on Vinted, eBay and Depop, the risk that matters most is not fraud. It is selling one item twice. A Vinted order that you then have to cancel because the item went on eBay the day before costs you the sale, the buyer’s trust and your seller rating. FLUF Connect keeps one inventory across your marketplaces: when an item sells on Vinted, its listings elsewhere come down, and when it sells elsewhere, the Vinted listing is removed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, if you pay with the Buy now button. Those orders are covered by Vinted's refund policy when the item is lost, damaged or significantly not as described. Payments made outside Vinted, by bank transfer or through a link, are not protected.

Yes. The buyer's payment is held by Vinted until the order completes, you ship with a prepaid Vinted label that is tracked, and parcels lost or damaged in transit with that label can be compensated. Your money moves to your available balance within 2 days of the order completing.

It is a mandatory platform fee paid by the buyer at checkout, usually 3% to 8% of the price plus £0.30 to £0.80 in the UK. Vinted says it funds, among other things, the refund policy for items that are lost, damaged or not as described when bought from a non-professional seller.

2 days from the moment Vinted tells you the parcel should have been delivered. Press “I have an issue” in the order conversation and add photos. If you press “Everything is OK” or do nothing, the order completes and the seller is paid. For purchases from a Pro seller the window is 14 days.

Messages that try to move you off Vinted, fake payment links or QR codes, emails that imitate Vinted, and pressure to act quickly. Vinted's advice is to stay in the app for the whole order, never enter card details from a message, forward suspicious emails to [email protected] and report the member.

The main attempt is a “your payment is waiting, click to receive it” message. A real sale appears in your Vinted inbox and balance without any link. Never share your bank details with a buyer; Vinted pays you through your balance.

Yes, when you paid through Vinted. Report it with “I have an issue” within 2 days of the expected delivery and Vinted suspends the order while it is resolved. Paying outside Vinted removes that cover.

Verify your email, which is required anyway, then turn on 2-step verification under Settings and Security by adding your phone number. Linking a Google or Facebook account also shows other members that your profile is verified.
