Is eBay to Tilt right for you?

It fits if you already have a stocked eBay account in the categories Tilt’s buyers come for. Tilt calls itself a fashion-first marketplace, and lists archive, streetwear, sneakers, vintage, designer, retro sports, activewear, techwear and jewellery as what sells well. Its seller page also names toys, collectables and trading cards.

It is a poor fit if you sell car parts, homeware, books or electronics. It also asks more of you than eBay does. Tilt is built around selling live on camera or through short clips, so a seller who never wants to appear on screen will get less from it. And Tilt’s help desk says selling is currently open to sellers based in the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy.

What each platform charges

eBay’s fees depend on who you are. For UK private sellers, eBay says selling is now free outside the motors categories, with 300 listings a month included and 35p for each extra one. Business sellers pay a final value fee set by category, a per-order fee of £0.30 on orders up to £10 and £0.40 above that, and a regulatory operating fee of 0.35%. Clothes, Shoes & Accessories is 11.9%, dropping to 7% on trainers that sell for £100 or more.

Tilt publishes one number. Its fee page reads “Single, simple fee: 2% + £0.50 per transaction”, with no listing fee and no separate commission.

A £40 jacket, postage paid by the buyer Fees You keep
eBay, private seller £0 £40.00
eBay, business seller (11.9% + £0.40 + 0.35%) £5.30 £34.70
Tilt (2% + £0.50) £1.30 £38.70

eBay works its percentage out on the whole sale including postage, so the business figure rises a little once postage is added. For a business seller the gap is about £4 on this jacket. For a private seller eBay is cheaper, and the reason to add Tilt is the extra audience.

What Tilt asks for that an eBay listing does not

An eBay listing can sit untouched for months and still sell through search. Tilt works differently.

  • Enough stock to fill a show. Tilt recommends starting with at least 15 to 20 items, so a stream does not sell out in the first ten minutes.
  • A way of selling on camera. You sell live, or through clips. Your eBay photos and titles carry over, but the selling itself is you talking about the item.
  • A shipping method on every listing. Tilt takes the postage from the buyer at checkout, and you print a prepaid label from the Orders tab. Its seller page names Royal Mail and Evri. If you change the parcel weight on the label, the extra cost is yours.
  • Speed. Tilt’s seller page talks about selling 30 to 40 items an hour live. Have the parcels ready to go out the next morning.

Low-priced items are the awkward case. On a £6 T-shirt, Tilt’s fee is 62p, which is over 10% of the price. Bundle cheap pieces or keep them on eBay.

How to set it up in FLUF Connect

  1. Sign in with eBay from the Channels screen in FLUF. Your live eBay listings are imported into your FLUF inventory.
  2. Open a Tilt seller account and add a shipping method in Tilt.
  3. Install the FLUF browser extension, sign in to Tilt, and connect Tilt from the Channels screen. You do this once, and no tab has to stay open afterwards.
  4. Pick the eBay items you want on Tilt and crosslist them. They arrive in your Tilt shop as fixed-price listings.
  5. Run your shows in Tilt as usual. FLUF does not schedule or run live shows.

This matters most for one-off pieces. If a jacket sells in a Tilt show on Tuesday night, its eBay listing is ended for you, so you do not wake up to a second order for a jacket you no longer have.

No. FLUF creates them as fixed-price listings in your Tilt shop. You decide in Tilt what to feature in a show.

FLUF sees the Tilt sale and ends the eBay listing. It works the other way too: an eBay sale withdraws the item from Tilt.

No. Those two features cover eBay only, and need a plan above Starter.

A Tilt seller account with a shipping method set up, and the FLUF browser extension. You connect once while signed in to Tilt.

The 50p fixed part of Tilt's fee weighs heavily on low prices. On a £6 item the fee is 62p. Bundles or higher-value pieces make more sense.
