Crosslist from Etsy to Kleinanzeigen — What Germany’s Classifieds Rules Allow
No commission, buyer-paid fees and 32.8m monthly users — but no quantity field, a duplicate-ad ban, and you cannot refuse local pickup. Which part of an Etsy shop can actually move.
- Kleinanzeigen charges the seller almost nothing. A commercial seller gets 2 free ads per 30 days in the Waren categories, then €1.99–2.49 per ad. There is no commission: the “Sicher bezahlen” service fee of €0.50 + 4.5% is paid by the buyer, and so is the shipping. Against Etsy’s German all-in of 6.5% + 4% + €0.30 on a shipping-inclusive base, that is the whole commercial case.
- But there is no quantity field, and duplicate ads are explicitly banned — including “ads that contain the same offer despite differences”. Forty identical candles is one ad, not forty. This single rule disqualifies most Etsy production catalogues.
- You may not offer shipping as the only delivery option. Kleinanzeigen states it is “not permitted to offer shipping as the only way to receive the goods and to exclude personal collection”. Your ad must sit at the item’s real location. A nationwide, shipping-only storefront is against the rules.
- You are commercial, by Kleinanzeigen’s own definition. Its commercial-seller guidance lists, verbatim, “sell items that you produced for resale”. And the account-type choice is irreversible: “It is not possible to change the account type afterwards, or to post commercial ads from a private account.”
- Ads run 60 days and do not auto-renew. You get an email a week before expiry and 8 days to renew. Miss it and “an expired ad cannot be restored” — you create a new one, which costs another slot and another fee. Etsy’s 4-month auto-renew habit will cost you listings here.
- Shipping into Germany drags in packaging law. LUCID registration plus a dual-system contract is required, and since 12 August 2026 the EU Packaging Regulation applies. Online platforms must verify your LUCID registration before you may offer packaged goods at all.
- What actually fits: true vintage, bulky one-off home goods, single-piece art and jewellery, craft-supply destash and studio clear-outs. What does not: production runs, made-to-order, print-on-demand, digital downloads and personalisation.
- Cost: FLUF Connect is £1 for 7 days, then plans from £9/month (Starter). There is no free plan.

Why an Etsy seller looks at Kleinanzeigen
Kleinanzeigen is Germany’s largest classifieds marketplace, and the number it is obliged to publish under the Digital Services Act is 32.803 million average monthly active users for January to June 2026 — a statutory disclosure in its own Impressum, which makes it the most citable figure available. It carries over 50 million live ads and has passed 291 million app downloads since launching in September 2009 (Kleinanzeigen, Über uns).
It became “Kleinanzeigen” in May 2023, dropping the eBay prefix. Ownership today runs Permira and Blackstone, through Adevinta — taken private in May 2024 — to Marktplaats B.V. and then kleinanzeigen.de GmbH in Berlin. There are no auctions: ads are fixed price or “VB”, meaning open to negotiation.
The pull for an Etsy seller is simple arithmetic. Etsy’s German fee stack is 6.5% transaction plus 4% + €0.30 payment processing, both charged on a base that includes your postage, plus 2.5% if your listing currency differs from your payout currency, plus 12–15% whenever an Offsite Ads click is attributed. Kleinanzeigen’s seller-side charge is an ad fee measured in single euros, and no commission at all.
The pushback is equally simple: Kleinanzeigen is a secondhand marketplace with local-pickup DNA, and a large part of a typical Etsy catalogue is not allowed on it. The rest of this page is about telling those two parts apart before you push anything.
The fee comparison, both sides
| Etsy (German seller) | Kleinanzeigen (commercial, Waren) | |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 per listing, per 4-month cycle | 2 ads free per 30 days, then €1.99–2.49 incl. VAT |
| Commission | 6.5%, charged on a base that includes shipping and gift wrap | None |
| Payment processing | 4% + €0.30 per order, on the total including tax and postage | None to the seller |
| Buyer-side fee | — | “Sicher bezahlen” service fee €0.50 + 4.5%, paid by the buyer |
| Shipping | Seller-set; counts toward the fee base | Buyer pays, always, under Sicher bezahlen |
| Advertising | Offsite Ads 15%, or 12% and mandatory for the life of the shop once you pass $10,000 GMS in a trailing year. Capped at $100 per attributed order | Optional Highlight, Top-Anzeige, Galerie, Hochschieben — prices not published, shown at checkout |
| Currency conversion | 2.5% where listing and payout currencies differ | None — EUR only |
| Regulatory operating fee | None in Germany (it applies in nine countries; Germany is not one) | — |
| Subscription | Etsy Plus $10/month, optional | Kleinanzeigen PRO from €39/month excl. VAT, optional |
| Listing duration | 4 months, auto-renews at $0.20 | 60 days, manual renewal only |

Two clarifications worth making because they are widely got wrong. Etsy’s transaction fee is still 6.5% — no 2025 or 2026 increase is documented in the fee policy or the annual report. And Offsite Ads has no “15% cap”: 15% and 12% are the rates, and the cap is $100 per attributed order.
Four rules that decide whether this works at all
Read these before you plan anything. Each is a direct quotation from Kleinanzeigen’s own Grundsätze or help centre.
1. No duplicate ads — and no quantity field
“Post your ad only once. Duplicate ads are not permitted. This includes ads that contain the same offer despite differences, and ads the user deleted and then re-posted.”
Kleinanzeigen has no quantity field and no variation model. If you have forty of something, you get one ad. Listing them individually — or listing three colourways of the same design as three ads — is the pattern that gets ads deleted, and repeated deletions are a named cause of account restriction. This is the rule that disqualifies most Etsy production catalogues, and it is not negotiable.
2. You must physically hold the item
“Only offer products that are in your possession.”
That rules out made-to-order, print-on-demand, and anything produced after the sale. For a great many Etsy sellers this is the whole business model, and it simply does not transfer.
3. You cannot exclude local pickup
“Post your ad at the location where the item is. Please note that it is not permitted to offer shipping as the only way to receive the goods and to exclude personal collection/handover” (Kleinanzeigen help centre).
This is the biggest operational shock coming from Etsy. Your ad is anchored to a real address, your town and Bundesland index it, and buyers may turn up. A studio in Leipzig cannot present itself as a national shop. Commercial sellers wanting to post the same product at more than one location must send a Handelsregisterauszug or Gewerbeschein to Kleinanzeigen first.
4. Your own photos and text, in German or English
“Use only your own photos and text.” Ads must be written in German and/or English, and prices must always be stated gross — VAT included. Search-term spam is prohibited, explicitly including naming a third-party brand, so an Etsy-style keyword-stuffed title is a deletion risk rather than a ranking tactic.
What of your Etsy shop actually fits
There is a native craft category — Handarbeit, Basteln & Kunsthandwerk, sitting under Freizeit, Hobby & Nachbarschaft, which is a Sicher-bezahlen-enabled branch. Adjacent homes include Kunst & Antiquitäten, Sammeln, Uhren & Schmuck, Taschen & Accessoires, Dekoration, Heimtextilien, Bücher & Zeitschriften, Büro & Schreibwaren and Trödel.
But read the category page titles before you get excited. Kunst & Antiquitäten’s is literally “Kunst und Antiquitäten gebraucht kaufen” — buy used. Kleinanzeigen’s own framing is secondhand-first: every ad “stands for a decision against throwing away and for passing on”. The buyer intent is bargain and reuse, not artisan premium.
Works well
- True vintage. Etsy’s own 20-year rule survives inside its current Creativity Standards, and 20-year-old stock lands naturally in Kunst & Antiquitäten, Sammeln, Trödel and Bücher.
- Bulky one-off home goods. Furniture, large ceramics, lamps, mirrors, textiles. These are exactly the items Etsy makes painful — 6.5% on a shipping-inclusive base, plus real freight — and Kleinanzeigen makes nearly free through local pickup. This is the single strongest argument for the crossover.
- Single-piece jewellery, art and one-off handmade. One item, one ad, no duplicate problem.
- Craft-supply destash. Deadstock fabric, bead lots, yarn — a natural fit for the craft category, and job lots fit Trödel.
- Studio clear-outs and seconds. Samples, misprints, discontinued lines. Bargain-hunting intent is a feature here, not a problem.
Does not work
- Multi-quantity production runs — the duplicate rule, above.
- Made-to-order and print-on-demand — the possession rule.
- Digital downloads. No delivery mechanism, and buyer protection explicitly excludes digital goods.
- Personalisation. No equivalent field; the transaction ends at handover.
- Variations. No variation model, and separate ads per colourway risk reading as duplicates.
- Categories Etsy allows and Kleinanzeigen bans: perfume and scent oils (except empty flacons), food supplements, alcohol, tobacco and vaping accessories including pipes and shishas, anything age-restricted or sexual, imitations and counterfeits, unauthorised copies including e-books, ivory and anything imitating ivory — bone, resin or plastic, weapons and replicas, archaeological finds, and taxidermy or preparations of protected species.
That ivory-imitation ban catches sellers off guard: a resin “faux ivory” carving is prohibited even though no animal was involved.
Private or commercial — an irreversible choice
Kleinanzeigen’s commercial-seller guidance defines commercial activity as offering goods or services for payment “on a planned and sustained basis”, and gives examples that include, word for word, “sell items that you produced for resale” (Kleinanzeigen, Besondere Pflichten für gewerbliche Anbieter).
That sentence is written for exactly this reader. An Etsy maker is gewerblich by Kleinanzeigen’s own definition. There is no private-account route, and no ad count or euro figure that changes it — the test is qualitative.
The choice is also permanent: “Every user must decide at first registration between a private and a commercial account. It is not possible to change the account type afterwards, or to post commercial ads from a private account.” You can only open a second, commercial account alongside — and holding more than one private account is itself a named cause of restriction.
A commercial account publicly displays your Rechtliche Angaben — company name and full address — and is badged “Gewerblicher Anbieter”. The ad form carries a mandatory Impressum field. Under §5 of the Digitale-Dienste-Gesetz (which replaced the TMG — citing “§5 TMG” will date you) that means a name and an address at which legal documents can be served, no PO box, a rapid electronic contact including email, register and registration number if any, and a USt-IdNr. under §27a UStG if you have one.
Kleinanzeigen states that Widerrufsrecht and Gewährleistung duties apply and then declines to spell them out, telling commercial sellers to consult a lawyer. It is not being evasive: these are German statute rather than platform policy. Take advice.
How to crosslist from Etsy to Kleinanzeigen
- Decide your account type first, and get it right, because it cannot be changed.
- Create a FLUF Connect account and start the £1 seven-day trial.
- Connect Etsy via OAuth.
- Connect Kleinanzeigen. The connection is captured through the FLUF browser extension and then maintained server-side by a self-refreshing token, so day-to-day listing traffic does not depend on your browser staying open.
- Import your Etsy shop into FLUF.
- Filter hard. Exclude multi-quantity production runs, made-to-order, digital listings, personalised items and every banned category. This is the step that decides whether the account survives.
- Re-price in euros, gross. Kleinanzeigen is EUR-only and requires VAT-inclusive prices, so this is re-pricing rather than currency conversion.
- Set a delivery method that includes pickup, and check that a shipping option is attached — a Kleinanzeigen submission without one fails outright.
- Push ten, watch for a week, then continue.
What transfers, field by field
| Etsy field | Kleinanzeigen field | Transfer status | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Title (up to 140 characters) | Titel | ✅ Automatic | Strip the keyword tail — naming third-party brands is treated as search-term spam |
| Description | Beschreibung | ✅ Automatic | Must be German and/or English |
| Price | Preis | ⚡ Re-priced | EUR only, gross. Choose Festpreis or VB |
| Photos (Etsy allows 20) | Bilder | ✅ Automatic | Must be your own. 12 MB per image; Kleinanzeigen publishes no count limit |
| Category | Kategorie | ⚡ Smart mapped | Kleinanzeigen’s tree is shallower and secondhand-oriented |
| Location | Ort | ⚠️ Must be real | The item’s actual location, not a trading address |
| Shipping profile | Versandoptionen | ⚡ Mapped | DHL or Hermes size classes. An ad with no shipping option fails to submit |
| Impressum details | Rechtliche Angaben | ⚠️ Mandatory field | Commercial accounts only; a dedicated required field in the ad form |
| Quantity | — | ❌ No such field | One ad is one item |
| Variations | — | ❌ Not supported | And separate ads per variant risk the duplicate ban |
| Tags (13, 20 characters each) | — | ❌ Not transferred | No tag system |
| Attributes | — | ❌ Not transferred | |
| Digital files | — | ❌ Not possible | No delivery mechanism; excluded from buyer protection |
| Personalisation field | — | ❌ Not supported | |
| Reviews and order history | — | ❌ Not transferred |
Shipping, if the buyer does not collect
Kleinanzeigen issues prepaid labels inside the platform and the buyer always pays. Current published prices (Kleinanzeigen, edited 2 July 2026): DHL Paket S €6.19, M €7.69, L €10.49, XL €18.99; Hermes Päckchen from €3.70 at a PaketShop up to L-Paket at €9.90. All tracked, Germany only.
The clocks: you have 48 hours to confirm availability or the transaction auto-cancels, then 14 days for the item to reach the buyer. The buyer has 10 days from dispatch to confirm or raise a problem, and payout lands 1–3 working days later. Buyer protection covers non-dispatch, materially different items, counterfeits and wrong or incomplete items — and explicitly does not cover any shipment outside Germany.
The 60-day clock and the 8-day window
This catches Etsy sellers more than any other operational rule, because Etsy has trained the opposite habit.
An Etsy listing runs four months and auto-renews at $0.20 unless you set it to manual. A Kleinanzeigen ad runs 60 days and does not renew itself. You get an email a week before expiry and have 8 days to renew for another 60. Miss it, and Kleinanzeigen is unambiguous: “an expired ad cannot be restored/reactivated.”
The consequence is not just a gap. Creating a replacement ad consumes a slot in your rolling 30-day allowance and, past the 2 free commercial Waren ads, costs another €1.99–2.49. And because the 30-day counter counts every ad created — including deletions and re-posts — a habit of deleting and re-listing burns the allowance quickly.
Note also that the paid visibility extras do not extend runtime. Highlight, Top-Anzeige, Galerie and Hochschieben all run their own shorter clocks on top of the same 60 days, and Kleinanzeigen does not publish their prices — they are category- and tariff-dependent and shown only at checkout, so treat any fixed figure you read elsewhere as unverified.
Pricing for a market that haggles
Etsy buyers do not negotiate. Kleinanzeigen buyers do, and the platform is built for it.
“VB” — Verhandlungsbasis — marks an ad as open to offers, and Kleinanzeigen’s own guidance is explicit that “even very low offers on a VB ad are not grounds for reporting, if factually worded” (Kleinanzeigen, edited 19 August 2025). A Festpreis signals no room on price, but a polite enquiry is still acceptable.
So: either price with negotiating headroom and mark it VB, or set a Festpreis and be prepared to defend it. What does not work is transplanting an Etsy price unchanged and being offended. A €90 Etsy piece listed at €90 here will mostly attract offers around €40 — and that is the market working as designed, not buyers behaving badly.
One asymmetry to know: when a price drops below an ad’s original figure, Kleinanzeigen displays the old price struck through — but only on private ads, not commercial ones. As a commercial seller you neither get that discount signal nor have to worry about it.
Tax, DAC7 and the packaging law nobody mentions
This section is orientation, not advice.
DAC7 and the PStTG. Kleinanzeigen reports private sellers who complete at least 30 transactions and/or earn €2,000 or more in a calendar year, filing with the Bundeszentralamt für Steuern by 31 January. Note two details: only completed transactions count, not ads, and Kleinanzeigen can only see transactions that ran through Sicher bezahlen. The law’s stated target is “Scheinprivate” — sellers who declare themselves private while trading commercially — which is precisely what an Etsy maker on a private account would be.
Kleinunternehmerregelung. Under §19 UStG the current thresholds are €25,000 in the preceding calendar year and €100,000 in the current one (gesetze-im-internet.de). Two things people miss: since the 2025 reform this is a genuine exemption rather than merely “no VAT charged”, and the €100,000 current-year limit bites immediately — cross it mid-year and you are liable from that transaction onward, not from the following January. Waiving §19 binds you for at least five calendar years.
Verpackungsgesetz and LUCID — the one that stops you shipping. If you send goods in packaging into Germany you must register with the Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister (LUCID) and hold a system participation contract with a dual system. Registration is free; the dual-system contract is not.
Three points that catch handmade sellers specifically (Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister):
- If you assemble the packaging yourself — box, tape, filler — “you are the manufacturer of that packaging because you are completing the packaging”, and are responsible for financing its recycling. That describes nearly every Etsy seller.
- Sellers based outside Germany shipping in are “at a minimum the manufacturer and producer” and must appoint an authorised representative before registration can complete.
- Platforms must verify you. Online platforms are required to obtain and check confirmation of LUCID registration and a self-certification, and “without this evidence… the packaged products may not be offered on the online platform.” The register is public and machine-checkable, so this is a gate rather than paperwork.
The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation entered into force on 12 August 2026 and reorganises these responsibilities; existing LUCID registrations may need updating.
What syncs and what does not
| Behaviour | Supported | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Read your Etsy shop | Yes | Via Etsy’s API |
| Create, edit and delete Kleinanzeigen ads | Yes | Server-side after the initial connection capture |
| Sells on Etsy → removed from Kleinanzeigen | Yes | The direction that stops you selling a one-off twice |
| Sells on Kleinanzeigen → cleared from Etsy | Yes | Kleinanzeigen order reads are supported |
| Kleinanzeigen relisting | Yes | Gated on a liveness probe so a relist never recreates against a delete that silently failed |
| Etsy relisting | Yes | Etsy is a relisting-enabled channel |
| Etsy order sync | Yes | Etsy orders are read into FLUF |
| Offer and negotiation handling | No | VB negotiations happen in Kleinanzeigen’s message box |
| Quantity or variation sync | Not applicable | Kleinanzeigen has neither |
The relist behaviour is worth a note. Because an expired Kleinanzeigen ad cannot be reactivated, relisting means creating a fresh ad — and doing that against an item that is actually still live would produce exactly the duplicate the platform bans. FLUF therefore checks whether the previous ad is genuinely gone before it recreates, rather than assuming a delete succeeded.
Mistakes that get ads deleted
Listing multi-quantity stock as separate ads. The commonest failure, and the one that escalates: repeated deletions for breaches are a named cause of account restriction.
Offering shipping only. Against the rules. Pickup must be available.
Using a private account. If you make things to sell you are gewerblich, the choice is irreversible, and commercial ads from a private account are not permitted.
Carrying your Etsy title across intact. The keyword tail, especially third-party brand names, reads as search-term spam.
Listing net prices. Gross prices are required, always.
Missing the 8-day renewal window. The ad is gone permanently, and replacing it costs a slot and a fee.
Assuming buyer protection covers an export. It applies only within Germany.
Shipping without a LUCID registration. The platform is obliged to check, and without it your packaged goods may not be offered at all.
What FLUF Connect costs
FLUF Connect is £1 for 7 days, then plans from £9/month (Starter). The rest of your first month is charged after the seven days, so you are not paying more, just not all of it up front. There is no free plan.
Automation — relisting, offer management and bulk operations — is included in every plan, not sold as a paid add-on. Kleinanzeigen is one of {channel_count} channels FLUF drives. Full details on the pricing page.

Kleinanzeigen does not publish the local-pickup versus shipping split, audience demographics, per-category ad counts, a maximum photo count, or euro prices for its visibility extras — so we state none of those. Etsy does not break out Germany, which sits below its 10%-of-revenue disclosure threshold, so German buyer and seller counts are unavailable and the figures circulating on aggregator sites are unverified. All Kleinanzeigen dates given are content-edit dates rather than the platform’s bulk re-sync timestamps.

Frequently Asked Questions
Some of them. Kleinanzeigen has no quantity field and explicitly bans duplicate ads, including ads that contain the same offer despite differences, so multi-quantity production runs do not transfer. It also requires that you physically possess the item, which rules out made-to-order and print-on-demand. What works well is true vintage, bulky one-off home goods, single-piece art and jewellery, craft-supply destash and studio clear-outs.
For a commercial seller in the Waren categories, two ads are free per rolling 30 days and each further ad costs €1.99 to €2.49 including VAT. There is no commission. The Sicher bezahlen service fee of €0.50 plus 4.5% is paid by the buyer, and so is the shipping. Against Etsy's German stack of 6.5% plus 4% plus €0.30 on a shipping-inclusive base, that is the entire commercial argument.
If you make things to sell, yes. Kleinanzeigen's own definition of commercial activity includes, word for word, selling items that you produced for resale. Choose carefully, because the decision is permanent: the account type cannot be changed afterwards, and commercial ads cannot be posted from a private account. You can only open a second, commercial account alongside.
No. Kleinanzeigen states it is not permitted to offer shipping as the only way to receive the goods and to exclude personal collection. Your ad must also sit at the item's real location, indexed by town and Bundesland. A nationwide, shipping-only storefront is against the rules, and commercial sellers wanting to post the same product at more than one location must send business registration documents to Kleinanzeigen first.
60 days, and it does not renew itself. You get an email a week before expiry and eight days to renew for another 60. Miss that window and an expired ad cannot be restored — you have to create a new one, which consumes a slot in your rolling 30-day allowance and costs another fee. Coming from Etsy's four-month auto-renew, this is the habit most likely to cost you listings.
Perfume and scent oils except empty flacons, food supplements, alcohol, tobacco and vaping accessories, anything age-restricted or sexual, imitations and counterfeits, unauthorised copies including e-books, weapons and replicas, archaeological finds, taxidermy of protected species, and — a common surprise — ivory and anything imitating it, including resin or plastic faux ivory. Digital downloads have no delivery mechanism and are excluded from buyer protection.
Yes, and the platform is built for it. Ads marked VB — Verhandlungsbasis — invite offers, and Kleinanzeigen's own guidance says even very low offers on a VB ad are not grounds for reporting if factually worded. Category page titles literally say "gebraucht kaufen", buy used. Either price with headroom and mark it VB, or set a fixed price and be prepared to defend it; a €90 Etsy piece listed at €90 will mostly attract offers around €40.
Yes, if you send goods in packaging. Registration with the Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister is free but must be paired with a dual-system contract. If you assemble the packaging yourself — box, tape, filler — you count as the manufacturer of that packaging. Sellers based outside Germany must appoint an authorised representative. Crucially, online platforms are required to verify your registration before your packaged goods may be offered at all.
Under §19 UStG the Kleinunternehmer thresholds are €25,000 in the preceding calendar year and €100,000 in the current one. Two details people miss: since the 2025 reform this is a genuine exemption rather than merely not charging VAT, and the €100,000 current-year limit bites immediately — cross it mid-year and you are liable from that transaction onward. Waiving the scheme binds you for at least five calendar years.
FLUF creates, edits and deletes Kleinanzeigen ads, and sold-detection works in both directions — an Etsy sale removes the Kleinanzeigen ad and a Kleinanzeigen sale clears Etsy, which matters for one-off stock. Relisting is supported on both, and Kleinanzeigen relisting is gated on a liveness check so a relist never recreates against a delete that silently failed and produces the duplicate the platform bans.
