First, the Misconception: Kleinanzeigen Is Not eBay
This page exists partly because a great many German sellers assume the work is already done. The platform spent thirteen years called eBay Kleinanzeigen, and the assumption that an eBay listing shows up there — or that one account covers both — is extremely common. It is also wrong, and has been for years.
Kleinanzeigen dropped the eBay name on 16 May 2023, keeping accounts, chats, ratings and ads intact but ending the brand relationship. What remains today is essentially nothing:
- Kleinanzeigen’s terms of use do not mention eBay once.
- Its help centre contains no article about linking an eBay account, sharing a login, sharing an inbox, or crossposting between the two.
- Payments run through Adyen, licensed by the Dutch central bank — not through eBay’s payments stack.
- There are no auctions at all. As Kleinanzeigen puts it on its own about page: “Auktionen gibt es auf Kleinanzeigen nicht.”
- Kleinanzeigen addresses the confusion directly on the same page: for many people it still sounds like eBay, “Das stimmt so aber schon seit einigen Jahren nicht mehr” — that has not been true for some years.
Corporately, Kleinanzeigen sits inside the Adevinta group, itself taken private by a Permira and Blackstone consortium in June 2024. eBay Inc. holds a small passive financial stake in that holding company and states in its own quarterly filing that it is not able to exercise significant influence. A minority investment is not an integration.
So: two accounts, two listings, two inboxes. Which is exactly the work worth automating.
Why an eBay Seller Should Add Kleinanzeigen
The two platforms sell in genuinely different ways, and that is the point rather than a drawback.
eBay is a search marketplace. A buyer arrives knowing what they want, compares listings nationally, pays through the platform and expects it shipped. That works beautifully for anything small, valuable per kilo, and easy to describe.
Kleinanzeigen is where the rest of your stock lives. Its own Digital Services Act disclosure reports 32.803 million average monthly active users in the EU for January to June 2026, published — as Kleinanzeigen itself notes — from external tracking data that may double-count. Its category index showed roughly 56.9 million live ads across 15 top-level categories on 20 August 2026, with Familie/Kind/Baby, Mode & Beauty and Haus & Garten each carrying over ten million.
Three kinds of eBay stock do noticeably better with a Kleinanzeigen ad alongside:
- Anything bulky. Furniture, appliances, exercise equipment, bicycles. eBay makes you solve shipping; Kleinanzeigen lets a buyer collect.
- Anything low-value. Below about €15, shipping economics stop working on eBay. On Kleinanzeigen an ad costs nothing and the buyer comes to you.
- Anything slow. A listing that has sat on eBay for months has exhausted the buyers who search for it. Kleinanzeigen’s audience browses rather than searches, and geography does some of the selling.
There is a second, structural reason. Kleinanzeigen’s general categories give free ads unlimited free renewals — so unlike almost every other channel, an item can sit there indefinitely at no cost, waiting for its buyer.
How the Crosslist Works
- Connect eBay. OAuth, approved once from your eBay account.
- Connect Kleinanzeigen. Kleinanzeigen has no public seller API — the only feed interface it documents is an FTP route for estate agents. FLUF works through your own logged-in Kleinanzeigen session, so ads are placed by you, from your account, exactly as if typed.
- Import your eBay listings. Titles, descriptions, photos, prices, condition and item specifics come across into one catalogue.
- Review the mapping. Kleinanzeigen’s taxonomy is much shallower than eBay’s and its category identifier sits above the leaf, with item type carried in a separate attribute. FLUF resolves both.

Fields that need your attention
The title trim is the one to watch. eBay’s 80 characters exist to be filled with search terms; Kleinanzeigen’s 65 do not stretch that far, and Kleinanzeigen’s audience browses categories more than it searches strings. In practice the trimmed title reads better, but check anything where an identifying detail — a model number, a capacity, a size — sits at the end of the eBay title.
eBay description templates do not survive. If your eBay listings use a seller template with a header image, a table of specifications and a footer of policies, none of that belongs in a Kleinanzeigen ad and none of it renders there. The useful content is the specification block; the rest is furniture built for a different room.
“Sicher bezahlen” is on by default. Kleinanzeigen adds its protected-payment option automatically in eligible categories and it cannot be fully switched off — the documented way to publish without it is to set the ad to “Nur Abholung”, collection only. If you are listing bulky goods for local pickup, that is what you want anyway.

Two things to note. eBay Germany’s free private selling is genuinely free within Germany: “Der Verkauf von Artikeln auf eBay.de ist innerhalb Deutschlands kostenlos”. Ship abroad and a flat 5% international fee applies to the whole transaction. And Kleinanzeigen’s free allowance is a rolling 30-day window counting new ads — deleting and re-posting still burns it, and a fee once paid is not refunded if you delete the ad early.
Vehicles are the exception on the Kleinanzeigen side and worth flagging if that is your stock: cars get two free ads per 30 days under €30,000 and then €9.99 each, and since 21 May 2026 any vehicle ad priced at €45,000 or more carries a mandatory €9.99 fee from the first ad, regardless of user type.

Kleinanzeigen reports the status of its own transactions, which is what makes the reverse direction safe here. That is not true of every classifieds site: where a platform only lets you observe that an ad has vanished, disappearance usually means expiry rather than a sale, and treating it as a sale would delist live stock everywhere else. Kleinanzeigen tells us, so the protection runs both ways without guessing — sell it on either channel and it comes down from the other within minutes.
