Crosslist from Kleinanzeigen to eBay — Automatically
For a private German seller this is close to pure upside — eBay.de has been free to sell on since 2023, with three times the free listing allowance and no 60-day expiry.
- For a private German seller this is almost pure upside. Selling on eBay.de has been free for private sellers since 1 March 2023 — no listing fee, no commission — and that is a permanent change, not a promotion.
- eBay.de gives you more room, not less: 320 free listings a month against Kleinanzeigen’s 100 per rolling 30 days, and a marginal listing costs €0.50 rather than €1.99.
- No 60-day death clock. Kleinanzeigen ads expire after 60 days and cannot be recovered. eBay listings renew monthly at no charge.
- The mapping is easier than you would guess. eBay.de’s tree is deep, but its apparel leaves are broad — jackets, coats and waistcoats share a single category — so less inference is needed than crosslisting to Vinted.
- The fee wall appears only if you go gewerblich: 12% on clothing plus €0.35–0.45 per order. That is the decision this page really turns on.
- Cost: from £9/month. There is no free plan, but every new account gets a 7-day free trial.

The fact that changes the arithmetic
Most sellers assume eBay is the expensive option and Kleinanzeigen the cheap one. In Germany, for a private seller, that has been wrong for over three years.
“Der Verkauf von Artikeln auf eBay.de ist innerhalb Deutschlands kostenlos.”
“Selling items on eBay.de within Germany is free of charge.”
— eBay.de help centre
eBay made private selling free on 1 March 2023, removing both the listing fee and the commission — previously 11% of the total price plus a fixed fee of up to €0.35. eBay’s own announcement was explicit that this is permanent: “Hierbei handelt es sich um keine zeitlich befristete Sonderaktion” — “This is not a time-limited special promotion.” eBay reported the result as 26% more items listed by private sellers and 29% more private sellers listing.
Side by side, for a private seller
| Kleinanzeigen | eBay.de (private) | |
|---|---|---|
| Free listings | 100 per rolling 30 days | 320 per month, plus 2,500 free auction listings |
| Marginal listing beyond that | €1.99 | €0.50 |
| Commission on sale | €0.00 | €0.00 |
| Buyer-side fee | €0.50 + 4.5% with Sicher bezahlen | None |
| Listing duration | 60 days, unrecoverable | Renews monthly, free of charge |
| Photos | Up to 20 | Up to 24 |
| Auction format | Not available | Yes |
| International sales | Not possible | Yes — 5% international fee applies |
eBay.de is the cheaper high-volume surface, with 3.2 times the free listing allowance, a marginal listing at a quarter of the price, and no expiry. The extra costs are optional add-ons — Galerie Plus at €0.75, a subtitle at €0.50, a second category at €0.50 — and the 5% international fee if the delivery address is outside Germany.
Why crosslist from Kleinanzeigen to eBay?
Search-intent buyers instead of local browsers
Kleinanzeigen indexes only the title — around 65 characters is your entire searchable surface. eBay gives you an 80-character title plus structured item specifics that drive faceted search, so buyers can filter by brand, size, colour, material and condition. That is a fundamentally different discovery mechanism, and it is why the same item can sit unseen on Kleinanzeigen and sell on eBay.
Auctions, which Kleinanzeigen does not have
Private sellers get 2,500 free auction listings a month on top of the 320 allowance, provided the start price is exactly €1.00 and the duration is not one or three days. For genuinely uncertain valuations — collectibles, vintage, one-offs — that is a price-discovery tool Kleinanzeigen cannot offer.
Reach beyond Germany
Kleinanzeigen cannot ship abroad at all. eBay can, at a 5% international fee on the transaction where the delivery address is outside Germany. Listing on another eBay site is free within the Eurozone and Sweden, 1.43% for the UK, and 1.91% for the rest of Europe, the US and Canada.
Where Kleinanzeigen still wins
Local collection. Kleinanzeigen’s whole culture is built around Selbstabholung, which is what makes furniture, appliances, bikes and garden equipment sellable at all. Nothing on eBay replaces that. Run both: bulky items stay local, postable items go to both.
How to crosslist from Kleinanzeigen to eBay with FLUF Connect
- Sign in to FLUF Connect and open the Channels page.
- Connect Kleinanzeigen. The FLUF browser extension grabs one token at connect; after that all listing actions run server-side.
- Connect eBay via OAuth — fully server-side, no extension at all.
- Import your Kleinanzeigen ads with photos, price, brand, size, colour and condition.
- Review the item specifics. eBay requires per-category aspects — material in particular is mandatory on many apparel categories and exists on neither platform’s source data.
- Choose your format: fixed price or auction, and your shipping and returns settings.
- Publish.
Worth noting that this pair is unusually clean operationally: both channels run server-side after connection, so nothing needs a browser left open.
What transfers — field and category mapping
| Kleinanzeigen field | eBay.de field | Transfer status | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Titel (10–65 chars) | Titel (80) | Automatic | eBay gives you 15 more characters — useful, since Kleinanzeigen titles are compressed by necessity. |
| Beschreibung (~4,000) | Artikelbeschreibung | Automatic | eBay’s limit is far larger and permits HTML, so nothing is lost. |
| Bilder (up to 20) | Bilder (up to 24) | Automatic | All free of charge on eBay. |
| Preis | Festpreis or Startpreis | Automatic | “Zu verschenken” ads have no eBay equivalent at a €0 price. |
| brand | Marke | Smart mapped | Kleinanzeigen normalises to snake_case; eBay uses a per-category controlled or free-text aspect. |
| condition | ConditionID | Smart mapped | Five tokens into eBay’s eleven-value numeric space — see below. |
| groesse | Größe | Smart mapped | eBay uses item-specific size values with per-category recommended sets, which is looser than Vinted’s controlled groups. |
| color | Farbe | Automatic | Kleinanzeigen’s German colour values map directly. |
| Kategorie (2 levels) | eBay category (4–6 levels) | Inferred | Deep tree, but broad apparel leaves — see below. |
| versand | Versandoptionen | Smart mapped | Kleinanzeigen’s ja/nein becomes an eBay shipping configuration. |
| — | Material and other Artikelmerkmale | Manual | Required per category. Material is mandatory on many apparel categories and neither platform records it. |
| — | Rücknahmebedingungen | Set once | eBay requires a returns policy; Kleinanzeigen has no concept of one. |
Condition mapping
Kleinanzeigen’s condition attribute uses English-ish snake_case tokens rather than German strings — a detail that catches out hand-built mappings. eBay.de uses a numeric ConditionID space:
| Kleinanzeigen token | eBay ConditionID | eBay label |
|---|---|---|
new_with_tag |
1000 | Neu |
new |
1500 | New without tags |
like_new |
2990 | Used — Excellent |
ok |
3000 | Used — Good |
alright |
3010 | Used — Fair |
eBay additionally offers values Kleinanzeigen has no equivalent for — 1750 new with defects, 2500 seller refurbished, 6000 acceptable and 7000 for parts or not working — which are worth setting by hand where they apply.
In electronics and business-and-industrial categories, eBay.de charges commercial sellers a reduced commission of 5% instead of the standard rate for used and refurbished conditions. Condition is not merely metadata there; it is priced. Private sellers pay nothing either way, so this only matters once you cross into commercial selling.
Category mapping — easier than you would expect
| Kleinanzeigen | eBay.de | |
|---|---|---|
| Total nodes | ~151 | 17,050 |
| Leaf nodes | ~136 | 14,917 |
| Maximum depth | 2 | 6 |
| Typical leaf depth | 2 | 4 |
eBay.de’s tree is around 110 times larger than Kleinanzeigen’s. But depth is not the same as difficulty, and this is where crosslisting to eBay is genuinely easier than crosslisting to Vinted: eBay’s apparel leaves are broad. A puffer jacket, a wool coat and a waistcoat all belong to the same eBay leaf — Kleidung & Accessoires → Damen → Damenmode → Jacken, Mäntel & Westen. Vinted would demand you distinguish puffer from quilted from bomber.
| Kleinanzeigen | eBay.de |
|---|---|
| Mode & Beauty → Damenbekleidung (puffer jacket) | Kleidung & Accessoires → Damen → Damenmode → Jacken, Mäntel & Westen (depth 4) |
| Mode & Beauty → Damenschuhe (sneakers) | Kleidung & Accessoires → Damen → Damenschuhe → Sneaker (depth 4) |
| Mode & Beauty → Taschen & Accessoires | Kleidung & Accessoires → Damen → Damen-Accessoires → … (depth 4) |
| Haus & Garten → Heimwerken (cordless drill) | Heimwerker → … (depth 4–6) |
| Musik, Filme & Bücher → Bücher | Bücher & Zeitschriften → … |
So the two destinations are not symmetric work. Kleinanzeigen to eBay needs less category inference than Kleinanzeigen to Vinted, but more item-specific data — eBay’s required aspects are where the effort goes instead.
What syncs, and what doesn’t
| Event | What happens | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Item sells on Kleinanzeigen | Removed from eBay automatically | Within minutes |
| Item sells on eBay | Withdrawn from Kleinanzeigen automatically | Within minutes |
| Price changed in FLUF Connect | Updated on both | Within minutes |
| Sold on a third channel | Removed from both | Within minutes |
| Edits made directly in either app | Not synced | Edit in FLUF Connect |
Both directions work on this pair. That matters because the collision risk here is real in a specific way: Kleinanzeigen sales are negotiated in a chat thread, often with the item informally reserved while collection is arranged, while an eBay buyer can complete a purchase in seconds. Without sync, the window in which an item is spoken for on one side and still buyable on the other can be hours long.
Cancelling eBay orders is not cost-free either. Sellers who cancel push their seller performance toward Below Standard, which brings reduced search visibility and selling restrictions.
The gewerblich decision
General guidance, not legal advice. This is the part of the picture that actually decides whether crosslisting pays, and it is badly covered elsewhere.
German law has no threshold number of sales that makes you commercial. Any guide quoting “more than 40 sales a year” is repeating folklore — no statutory or court source supports it. The leading authority, BGH I ZR 3/06, requires an overall assessment: repeated similar offers, offers of goods bought shortly beforehand, frequent ratings, and selling on behalf of others all count.
The numbers courts have actually used are lower than people expect — 25 buyer ratings has been treated as indicative, and 15 to 25 sales a month of similar new goods has been found commercial. Tax law is more permissive than competition law, which produces the trap: you can be a consumer to the Finanzamt and an Unternehmer to a competitor’s lawyer at the same time.
What each platform does about it
| Kleinanzeigen | eBay.de | |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial selling permitted? | Yes — but on a separate account | Yes |
| Can you convert your account? | No. You must register a new account with a different email, and you lose your entire rating history | Yes — but the switch is one-way |
| Free listings once commercial | 2 per 30 days in goods categories, then €1.99–2.49 | Depends on Shop tier |
| Commission once commercial | €0 | 12% on clothing to €990, plus €0.35 per order (€0.45 above €10), all net of 19% VAT |
| Impressum and Widerruf fields | Yes | Yes |
| Third-party tool and API access | No public seller API | Unlocks for commercial sellers |
Read the Kleinanzeigen row again, because it is the sharpest number in this whole comparison: declaring gewerblich takes a fashion reseller from 100 free ads per 30 days to 2. Kleinanzeigen’s own help centre is explicit that conversion is impossible — “Es ist nicht möglich, ein privates in ein gewerbliches Nutzerkonto umzuwandeln” — so you start again from zero ratings.
eBay handles it differently: it audits and instructs rather than flipping you automatically, and warns plainly about the alternative. “Wir überprüfen regelmäßig die Handelsaktivitäten unserer Verkäufer und fordern sie ggf. auf, ihr eBay Konto als ein gewerbliches Konto zu kennzeichnen. Weiterhin müssen Sie damit rechnen, dass Sie von Mitbewerbern oder Verbraucherschutzverbänden kostenpflichtig abgemahnt … werden” — “We regularly review our sellers’ trading activity and, where applicable, require them to flag their account as commercial. You must also expect to be issued a chargeable cease-and-desist warning by competitors or consumer-protection associations.”
eBay’s commercial Shop tiers run from Basis at €39.95/month through Top at €79.95 and Premium at €299.95, all net of VAT, with progressively larger free-listing allowances.
Before and after — the real workflow
Without FLUF Connect
Kleinanzeigen asks for four mandatory fields plus six required category attributes. eBay.de has nine listing sections — category, title, description, condition, item specifics and product identifiers, images, price and format, shipping, and returns and payment. It is the heaviest listing flow of the major German platforms, and the item specifics are where the time goes.
Reported timings put a careful Kleinanzeigen listing at 15–20 minutes; no reliable published figure exists for eBay.de specifically, but its extra required fields make it slower rather than faster.
With FLUF Connect
- Select items in your catalogue
- Choose eBay
- Confirm the inferred category, condition and item specifics
- Publish
Around 30 seconds per item once your defaults and returns policy are set.
Automation on each channel
| Feature | Kleinanzeigen | eBay |
|---|---|---|
| Crosslisting | Yes | Yes |
| Sale detection | Yes | Yes |
| Sold elsewhere → delisted here | Yes | Yes |
| Auto-relisting | Yes — against the 60-day expiry | Yes |
| Offer management | Not supported | Yes |
| Bulk operations | Yes | Yes |
| Connection | Extension at connect, then server-side | Server-side via OAuth |
Offer management is not available on Kleinanzeigen — the platform has no offer system to automate. Auto-relisting works on both and earns its keep on Kleinanzeigen specifically, because ads expire at 60 days and cannot be recovered. Note that eBay’s own free-listing allowance is not consumed by automatic monthly renewals, so keeping listings alive there costs nothing.
One legal note worth stating: Kleinanzeigen’s terms prohibit using crawlers, spiders or scrapers to access its services without express written consent. FLUF Connect’s Kleinanzeigen channel is a session-based integration acting on your own account rather than a scraper, and every action is one you could take yourself in the interface.

Verified in August 2026. Kleinanzeigen publishes no whole-category-tree endpoint and no exact PRO tier prices; eBay.de publishes no manual listing-time figure. Those are flagged rather than estimated. Note that eBay’s Rechtsportal page still cites a superseded VAT small-business threshold — the current figure is €25,000. Legal and tax information here is general guidance, not advice.

Frequently Asked Questions
For private sellers within Germany, yes — no listing fee and no commission, since 1 March 2023. eBay's own announcement stated plainly that this is not a time-limited promotion. Before the change, private sellers paid 11% of the total price plus a fixed fee of up to €0.35. eBay reported the result as 26% more items listed by private sellers. Commercial sellers still pay: 12% on clothing up to €990 plus €0.35 per order, €0.45 above €10, all net of 19% VAT.
Plans start at £9/month (Starter — 300 active products). There is no free plan, but every new account gets a 7-day free trial. Every plan includes crosslisting, inventory sync, relisting, offers and bulk operations across all supported channels, so the same catalogue can also reach Vinted, Etsy and Marktplaats — automation is not a paid add-on.
eBay, by a distance. eBay.de gives private sellers 320 free listings a month plus 2,500 free auction listings, where Kleinanzeigen gives 100 ads per rolling 30 days. Beyond the allowance, an eBay listing costs €0.50 against Kleinanzeigen's €1.99. And eBay listings renew monthly at no charge, while Kleinanzeigen ads expire after 60 days and cannot be recovered once expired — not even by Kleinanzeigen.
Kleinanzeigen uses English-ish snake_case tokens rather than German strings: new_with_tag, new, like_new, ok and alright. These map to eBay ConditionIDs 1000, 1500, 2990, 3000 and 3010 respectively. eBay offers several values Kleinanzeigen has no equivalent for — new with defects, seller refurbished, acceptable, and for parts or not working — which are worth setting by hand where they apply.
No, easier — despite eBay's tree being far larger. eBay.de has around 17,050 category nodes against Kleinanzeigen's 151, but its apparel leaves are broad: a puffer jacket, a wool coat and a waistcoat all belong to the single leaf Jacken, Mäntel & Westen. Vinted would demand you distinguish puffer from quilted from bomber. The effort on eBay goes into item specifics instead — material in particular is mandatory on many apparel categories and neither platform records it.
Yes. Both platforms report sales back to FLUF Connect, so a sale on either side removes the item from the other within minutes, as does a sale on any other connected channel. That matters here because Kleinanzeigen sales are negotiated in a chat thread with items often informally reserved during collection, while an eBay buyer can complete a purchase in seconds — so without sync the exposure window can run to hours.
There is no threshold number of sales in German law, and any guide quoting “more than 40 sales a year” is repeating folklore with no statutory or court basis. The leading case, BGH I ZR 3/06, requires an overall assessment: repeated similar offers, goods bought shortly beforehand, frequent ratings, selling for others. Courts have treated 25 buyer ratings as indicative and found 15 to 25 sales a month of similar new goods commercial. Note that competition law bites well before tax law does.
The contrast is stark. On Kleinanzeigen you cannot convert your account at all — its help centre states plainly that a private account cannot be turned into a commercial one, so you register a new account with a different email and lose your entire rating history. Your free allowance drops from 100 ads per 30 days to 2. On eBay the switch is possible but one-way, and it brings 12% commission on clothing plus per-order fees — but it also unlocks third-party tool and API access, which private accounts do not get.
Not through Kleinanzeigen, which cannot ship outside Germany at all. eBay can: a 5% international fee applies where the delivery address is outside Germany, and listing on another eBay site is free within the Eurozone and Sweden, 1.43% for the UK and 1.91% for the rest of Europe, the US and Canada. That reach is one of the strongest reasons to run eBay alongside Kleinanzeigen rather than instead of it.
Kleinanzeigen's terms prohibit using crawlers, spiders or scrapers to access its services and collect content without express written consent. FLUF Connect's Kleinanzeigen channel is a session-based integration acting on your own account rather than a scraper — every action is one you could perform yourself in the interface. Note that Kleinanzeigen has no public seller API at all, which is why every tool in this space works through the logged-in session.
