Crosslist from eBay to willhaben — Structure In, Classifieds Out
Take your eBay listings to Austria's biggest marketplace. Expect to lose item specifics, rewrite HTML descriptions in plain German, and decide first whether you are a private seller or a commercial one — because on willhaben that choice costs money.
- Decide your seller status first. willhaben reclassifies anyone selling regularly, in volume, or with intent to profit as a commercial seller — and a commercial Marktplatz ad costs €19.99 excluding VAT, against €0 for a private one.
- You are moving from structure to prose. An eBay listing can carry dozens of item specifics; a willhaben ad carries a category, a price, one of four condition values and free text.
- Your description will not survive intact. willhaben bans HTML tags and requires German. eBay’s styled description templates have to become plain German text.
- Titles get room, not less. eBay caps titles at 80 characters; willhaben fashion ads routinely run well past 100.
- Sold-sync is deliberately off on willhaben, because ads expire after roughly six weeks and disappearance is not evidence of a sale.
- Cost: from £9/month. There is no free plan, but every new account gets a 7-day free trial.

Private or commercial? Answer this before you list anything
This question barely exists on eBay, where you pick a seller type at signup and the platform mostly leaves you alone. On willhaben it is the single decision that determines whether your listings are free or cost twenty euros each — and willhaben, not you, has the final word.
The Anzeigenrichtlinien state that sellers listing “regelmäßig bzw. in hohem Volumen oder mit Gewinnabsicht” — regularly, in high volume, or with intent to profit — are treated as commercial regardless of whether they hold a trade licence. That description fits most people with an established eBay presence almost by definition.
| Private Marktplatz ad | Commercial Marktplatz ad | |
|---|---|---|
| Price per ad | Free | €19.99 excluding VAT |
| Run time | 45 days | 60 days |
| Images | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Shop ads | — | 180 days |
The honest read: if you are clearing personal items from an old eBay account, the free private route is yours. If you are a trading business, budget for commercial ads or a Marktplatz Shop, and treat “willhaben is free” as a claim that does not apply to you. A crosslisting tool that encouraged a business seller to churn free private ads would be walking them into a reclassification and a demotion of everything they have listed. Note too that willhaben permits one account per person, and deactivates additional accounts without warning — so running a second “private” account alongside a commercial one is not an option.
Why an eBay seller adds willhaben
Austria does not run on eBay
eBay is enormous globally — 135 million active buyers and 2.5 billion live listings at the end of 2025, with $79.6 billion in GMV. But global scale does not translate into Austrian defaults. willhaben describes itself as Austria’s largest digital marketplace and the ÖWA measurement for September 2025 put it second among all Austrian single offerings by visits, with roughly 4.3 million Austrian unique users a month — in a country of 5.6 million people. eBay.at, by contrast, does not appear in the Austrian ÖWA rankings at all.
For an Austrian or German-speaking eBay seller, that asymmetry is the entire argument. The buyers are not on the platform you are already using.
Recommerce is eBay’s own strongest suit — and willhaben’s whole business
More than 40% of eBay’s GMV is recommerce, and fashion alone exceeds $10 billion. willhaben’s Marktplatz carries roughly 12.5 million live ads, including 2,398,919 in Mode und Accessoires. The categories overlap almost perfectly; only the geography differs.
There is essentially no competition for this route
No reseller-focused crosslisting tool supports willhaben — it appears on the published marketplace lists of none of the major ones. The two tools that do reach it are a German classifieds extension built around Kleinanzeigen, and a dealer-oriented feed product. Neither combines willhaben with the marketplace mix an eBay seller actually runs.
What you lose in the move
Most crosslisting pages are written as though the destination is a superset of the source. Here it plainly is not, and knowing where the losses fall lets you decide what to send.
Item specifics have nowhere to go. eBay’s structured aspects — up to 45 per listing, each with defined names and values, powering its faceted search — have no willhaben equivalent. willhaben offers filter facets at category level for brand, condition, handover method, PayLivery and region, and that is roughly the extent of it. Everything else that was a structured field on eBay becomes prose in a description, or it disappears.
That matters more than it first sounds, because eBay is tightening in the opposite direction: from August 2026, apparel and footwear listings with unclear or missing size or condition details may be hidden until updated. You are being pushed towards more structure on one platform while the other cannot receive it.
Your description template will break. eBay descriptions accept HTML up to half a million characters, and most established sellers use styled templates with tables, headers and policy blocks. willhaben’s ad policy bans HTML tags outright and requires German. So the description does not transfer — it is rebuilt as plain German text. That is also where the residual detail from your item specifics should land.
Nothing may point at your other shops. The same policy prohibits referring to your profile on another selling platform, along with links, email addresses and QR codes. Standard eBay footer boilerplate — shop links, cross-promotion, contact details — has to come out.
Condition compresses. willhaben has exactly four values: NEU, NEUWERTIG, GEBRAUCHT, DEFEKT. eBay’s condition set is considerably richer and category-dependent, so several eBay conditions collapse into one willhaben value.
One thing you gain: title length. eBay’s 80-character ceiling is one of the tightest in the industry. willhaben imposes nothing comparable — live fashion titles run past 200 characters — so the keyword compression eBay forced on you can be relaxed.
The fee comparison, both ways round
| eBay (UK business seller) | willhaben | |
|---|---|---|
| Listing | 250 free per month on a Basic Shop, then 35p | Free private, or €19.99 ex VAT commercial |
| Success fee | 11.9% on clothes, shoes and accessories; 12.9% on many other categories | None |
| Per-order fee | £0.30 up to £10, £0.40 above — the upper tier rose from £0.30 in February 2026 | None |
| Regulatory operating fee | 0.35% of the total sale | None |
| Charged to the buyer | Nothing on business listings | Käuferschutz from €1.99 or 4.5% of item price, plus shipping |
| Payout | Per eBay’s schedule | Within 48 hours of delivery |
All eBay figures are quoted excluding VAT. The shape is clear enough: eBay charges the seller and willhaben charges the buyer. On a €100 item an eBay business seller in clothing gives up roughly €12.25 in fees; on willhaben they give up nothing on a private ad, or a flat €19.99 up front on a commercial one. Above about €165 of sale value per ad, a commercial willhaben ad is cheaper than eBay’s percentage — below it, eBay wins. That crossover is the actual decision, and it depends on your average selling price rather than on any slogan.
UK private sellers, incidentally, now pay eBay no final value or regulatory fees at all, with a Buyer Protection charge falling on the buyer instead. If you are comparing eBay and willhaben as a private seller, both platforms take nothing from you and the comparison is purely about reach.
How to crosslist from eBay to willhaben with FLUF Connect
- Settle your seller status and, if commercial, your ad budget.
- Sign in to FLUF Connect and open the Channels page.
- Connect eBay. A standard authorisation; your listings import and everything afterwards runs server-side.
- Connect willhaben. The FLUF extension captures one long-lived identity credential at connect. After that, creating ads, uploading images, editing prices and deleting all round-trip from our servers with no browser open.
- Rebuild descriptions as plain German — no HTML, no links, no cross-platform references — and fold in the item specifics worth keeping.
- Review category and condition. willhaben’s taxonomy runs up to four levels; condition maps into four values.
- Publish. Private ads run 45 days, commercial 60.
What transfers — field and category mapping
| eBay field | willhaben field | Transfer status | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Title (80 chars) | Titel | Automatic | No truncation risk in this direction — willhaben allows far more room. Keyword-stuffed eBay titles can be relaxed into readable German. |
| Description (HTML) | Beschreibung | Rebuilt | HTML tags are banned and the text must be German. Links, emails, QR codes and references to other platforms are prohibited. |
| Item specifics (up to 45) | — | Mostly lost | No structured equivalent. Brand and condition survive as facets; everything else has to live in the description or be dropped. |
| Pictures (up to 24) | Bilder | Automatic | Free private ads take unlimited images; we send up to 20. Converted to JPEG at a maximum 1200px long edge, first image becomes the cover. |
| Price | Preis | Automatic | Must be the actual Austrian gross consumer price including VAT. “Gegen Gebot” is not permitted outside property. |
| Condition | Zustand | Smart mapped, lossy | Four values only: NEU, NEUWERTIG, GEBRAUCHT, DEFEKT. |
| eBay category | Kategorie | Smart mapped | Up to four levels deep. Note that an eBay shop category is not an item category — only the item category informs the mapping. |
| Variations | — | Not supported | willhaben ads are one item per ad. A multi-variation eBay listing becomes several willhaben ads or none. |
| Postage policy | Übergabe | Rebuilt | willhaben asks for Abholung, Versand or PayLivery rather than a postage profile. |
| Returns policy | — | Not applicable | Private willhaben sales carry no statutory right of withdrawal. |
What syncs — and the sale we refuse to infer
| Event | What happens |
|---|---|
| You crosslist from FLUF | Ad created on willhaben, images uploaded, ad activated. |
| You edit the price in FLUF | Pushed to the live ad. |
| You delete in FLUF | Ad removed from willhaben. |
| Item sells on eBay | The willhaben ad is not delisted automatically. |
| Item sells on willhaben | Not detected. |
The reasoning is worth stating rather than hiding behind a dash in a feature table. The only cheap way to detect a willhaben sale is to watch the public index and read a vanished ad as a sale. willhaben ads expire after roughly six weeks by design — one live sample published on 29 July carried an end date of 12 September — so a vanished ad overwhelmingly means expired. Treating that as a sale would stock out healthy inventory across eBay and every other channel you run, on a six-week cycle, permanently. The feature stays off until a genuine PayLivery sale record can be read.
There is a second hazard specific to this platform that shaped how we build. willhaben exposes an endpoint that looks like it copies an ad. It does not copy — it migrates, and the original stops existing. It destroyed a real seller’s live listing during our integration work. Any relist here must be create-new-then-delete-old, which is how ours behaves.
Before and after — the real workflow
Doing it by hand
- Open willhaben and start a new Marktplatz ad
- Strip your eBay description template back to plain German text
- Retype the item specifics you want to keep as prose
- Remove shop links, contact details and any cross-platform reference
- Re-upload photos and choose a cover
- Walk the category tree, pick one of four condition values, choose a handover method
- Re-enter the price as an Austrian gross consumer price
- Publish, diarise the expiry, and delist by hand the moment it sells on eBay
With FLUF Connect
- Select the eBay listings you want visible in Austria
- Choose willhaben
- Approve the rebuilt German description, the inferred category and the condition mapping
- Publish
The description rebuild is the step that still deserves your attention, because it is the one carrying a removal risk rather than a formatting cost. Everything else is mechanical.

Verified in August 2026. eBay fees are quoted excluding VAT and vary by category, site and seller type; check your own rate card before pricing. willhaben does not publish private-seller upgrade prices or its exact title and description character limits, so none are stated. Live ad counts come from willhaben’s own public category pages and move daily. The break-even figure is illustrative arithmetic, not advice.

Frequently Asked Questions
Probably not. willhaben's ad policy treats anyone selling regularly, in high volume, or with intent to profit as a commercial seller regardless of whether they hold a trade licence — a description that fits most established eBay sellers. Commercial Marktplatz ads cost €19.99 excluding VAT and run 60 days, against free 45-day private ads. Running a second “private” account alongside is not a workaround either: willhaben permits one account per person and deactivates extras without warning.
Most of them are lost, because willhaben has no structured equivalent. An eBay listing can carry up to 45 item specifics powering faceted search; a willhaben ad offers category-level facets for brand, condition, handover method, PayLivery and region, and free text for everything else. Anything worth keeping needs to be written into the description as prose.
No. willhaben's ad policy bans HTML tags and requires ads to be published in German, so a styled eBay template with tables, headers and policy blocks has to be rebuilt as plain German text. The same policy prohibits links, email addresses, QR codes and any reference to your profile on another selling platform, so standard eBay footer boilerplate has to be removed as well.
The opposite — this is the one field where you gain room. eBay caps titles at 80 characters, which is among the tightest limits anywhere, while willhaben imposes nothing comparable and live fashion titles routinely run past 200 characters. The keyword compression eBay forces on you can be relaxed into readable German.
It depends entirely on your average selling price and your seller status. eBay charges the seller — 11.9% on clothing for UK business sellers, plus a 0.35% regulatory operating fee and £0.30 to £0.40 per order, all excluding VAT. willhaben charges the seller nothing but charges €19.99 excluding VAT per commercial ad. On a €100 item eBay takes roughly €12.25, so a flat €19.99 ad only pays for itself above roughly €165 of sale value. Below that, eBay is cheaper.
No, and that is deliberate. Detecting a willhaben sale would mean watching for an ad vanishing from the public index, but willhaben ads expire after roughly six weeks by design, so a vanished ad almost always means expired rather than sold. Wiring sold-sync to that signal would stock out healthy inventory across eBay and every other channel on a six-week cycle. It stays off until a real sale record can be read. Mark items sold in FLUF Connect and the fan-out runs from there.
Not as a single ad. willhaben Marktplatz ads are one item per ad, with no variation model, so an eBay listing with several sizes or colours becomes several separate willhaben ads. For a commercial seller paying per ad, that multiplies the cost, which is worth factoring in before you crosslist a variation-heavy catalogue.
Effectively no. willhaben's help centre states that sending items abroad through PayLivery is fundamentally not possible and that its carriers ship only within Austria. willhaben is an Austrian domestic marketplace, which is precisely why it complements a global eBay presence rather than duplicating it.
Only once. The FLUF extension captures a single long-lived identity credential when you connect. After that, creating ads, uploading images, editing prices and deleting all run server-side with no browser involved — so willhaben work continues while your computer is off. eBay is fully server-side too.
You should not, and we do not offer it. willhaben's policy forbids deleting and re-posting an active ad, rejects a re-post within 30 days of deletion without refund, and reserves the right to demote all of a repeat offender's ads. Re-publishing no longer resets your date-sort position either. There is also a technical trap: willhaben has an endpoint that looks like it duplicates an ad but actually migrates it, destroying the original — it wiped a real seller's live listing during our integration work.
