Kleinanzeigen to Whatnot: crosslisting cards, LEGO and sneakers in Germany

Is Whatnot right for your Kleinanzeigen stock?
Whatnot suits the part of your stock that ships in a parcel and appeals to collectors. Whatnot is a live-selling marketplace, and its 2026 report on Germany says German sellers earned an average of €475 per livestream hour, more than sellers in any other Whatnot market. If your Kleinanzeigen ads are trading cards, LEGO sets, sneakers or vintage toys, test them there first.
The same report lists the categories growing fastest among German buyers: beauty (+791%), electronics (+444%), jewellery (+259%) and women’s fashion (+223%). Cards and toys are not on that list, so judge Whatnot by your own first sales rather than by the headline growth.
Bulky household stock is a poor match. Furniture, bikes and prams that buyers expect to collect from your door belong on Kleinanzeigen, where pickup is normal.
Getting approved to sell on Whatnot
Anyone can post a Kleinanzeigen ad. Whatnot requires an approved seller account before you can list. The application asks for your legal name, the address you will ship from, a government-issued photo ID and the categories you plan to sell in, plus a short video of your products. Leave time for the review before you plan your first crosslisting batch.
Germany is on Whatnot’s list of countries where sellers can apply, together with Austria, Belgium, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom in Europe.
Private or gewerblich on Kleinanzeigen
A private account can post up to 100 new ads free within 30 days in most categories, with unlimited free renewals. Each ad beyond that costs €1.99 including VAT.
Commercial sellers work to a different table. A gewerblich account gets two free ads in the goods categories, then pays €3.49 to €4.49 per extra ad. From 1 September 2026 commercial ads run for 30 days instead of 60. The alternative is a category-specific PRO package with unlimited ad duration.
If you sell a few collector pieces a month as a hobby, the private allowance is the cheaper route. Regular trading as a business puts you on the commercial fees. A commercial seller who posts 30 goods ads beyond the free two pays at least €104.70 (30 × €3.49) before anything sells.
Sicher bezahlen and Direkt kaufen
A buyer clicks Direkt kaufen, enters an address and pays. The money is held by the payment provider Adyen, and the buyer has 14 days after receipt to report a problem. The protection is meant for shipments within Germany. As the seller, you confirm the purchase within 48 hours, and the money goes to your payout account once the sale is complete. That happens when the buyer confirms receipt, or automatically if the buyer does not respond within 10 days of shipment. Kleinanzeigen says the service is free for sellers and the buyer pays a small fee based on the price.

The Whatnot rates come from its seller fees page for sellers in Europe and the UK. Take a Pokémon booster box sold for €80 with €5 shipping. The commission is 6.67% of €80, or €5.34. Processing is 2.42% of the €85 order total (€2.06) plus €0.25. Before VAT, Whatnot keeps about €7.65. The same box sold through Direkt kaufen on Kleinanzeigen costs you nothing in fees.
Shipping from Germany
On Whatnot, shipping is free for the seller by default. Whatnot gives you a prepaid label sized to the weight and dimensions of the package. Only in limited situations can approved sellers use their own label, and parcels to buyers outside the EU and Switzerland need one. On Kleinanzeigen you agree shipping or pickup with the buyer yourself.
