Who this route suits
You have an Etsy shop with regulars: people who have bought twice, follow your shop, or ask when the next batch is coming. Every time one of them buys again, Etsy charges you as if it had found them. A Wix shop gives those customers somewhere to buy from you directly, and gives you their email address.
It suits you less if most of your sales come from strangers finding you in Etsy search. A new Wix site has no search traffic of its own for months, and a shop nobody visits costs its monthly plan and sells nothing. In that case keep Etsy as the main shop and treat Wix as the place you send people you have already met.

The difference shows on repeat orders. A £60 order from a returning customer on Etsy pays the transaction fee, card processing and the listing renewal. The same order on Wix pays card processing only. Once a few regulars a month buy through Wix, the plan has paid for itself. Check Wix’s current plans for the price in your currency, and pick one that includes online payments.
Sending buyers to the Wix shop
Wix will not find you customers. These are the places a maker’s own shop gets its first orders:
- Your social profiles and the link in your bio.
- A mailing list you build from Wix orders and from people who ask to hear about new pieces.
- Markets, fairs and wholesale buyers who want a site to order from.
- A business card or thank-you note in orders you post to customers who found you elsewhere.
Check Etsy’s seller policies before you put anything in an Etsy order or message that points buyers away from Etsy. The safe split is simple: Etsy buyers stay on Etsy, and Wix serves the audience you build yourself.
What to put on the Wix shop first
You do not have to mirror your whole Etsy catalogue on day one. A small, well-chosen Wix range sells better than a copy of a crowded Etsy shop.
- Reorders. Candles, prints, ceramics, jewellery lines and anything regulars buy again. These are the orders where Etsy’s fees hurt most.
- Your signature pieces. The work people recognise you for, photographed well, with the story behind it on the product page.
- Bundles and gift sets. Put together a set you only sell on your own site, so a follower has a reason to visit it.
- One-off vintage finds. List them on both shops. They sell once, and FLUF takes the other listing down.
Write Wix product pages for someone who already likes your work. On Etsy, a title has to compete in search with hundreds of similar items. On your own site it can simply name the piece, and the description can talk about materials, care and how it was made in your own voice. Reuse your Etsy photos, and put your best lifestyle shot first.
