Etsy to BigCommerce: Running Your Own Store While Keeping Etsy
For Etsy sellers reaching their fee ceiling: BigCommerce pricing, traffic, and keeping one stock count across both platforms.
7 days for £1, then from £9/month.
- Etsy charges a 6.5% transaction fee plus payment processing and listing fees, totalling roughly 9.5% before Offsite Ads. BigCommerce charges only payment processing with no transaction fees.
- BigCommerce brings no built-in traffic; you keep all 87 million Etsy buyers and drive your own audience to your store. Most sellers run both.
- The fee difference is real money. On a £40 sale, Etsy takes roughly £4.25; BigCommerce with the cheapest payment processor takes under £1.
- FLUF Connect lists your Etsy stock on your BigCommerce store and keeps one stock count across both, and ends the listing on one side when the item sells on the other.
This page is for Etsy sellers thinking about moving to their own BigCommerce store. You might be a jeweller selling custom pieces, a print-on-demand t-shirt seller, or a vintage fashion reseller who has built a loyal following and is tired of Etsy’s fees taking 10–15% of every sale. If you own your store and your customers know where to find you, BigCommerce is cheaper. But Etsy’s traffic is valuable, and most successful sellers keep both running.
Etsy’s fee structure and what it adds up to
Etsy charges three core seller fees on every sale. A listing fee is £0.20, renewed every four months or when an item sells. A transaction fee is 6.5% of the total, including shipping. Payment processing is 3% plus £0.25 per transaction. That totals roughly 9.5% plus the £0.20 listing fee before you factor in traffic costs.
Then there is Offsite Ads, which Etsy runs on Google and Facebook. If your shop made £10,000 or more in the past year, Offsite Ads are mandatory at 12% of any sale that clicks through from an Etsy ad. Shops below that threshold pay 15% but can opt out. Many Etsy sellers earn 20–40% of their revenue from Offsite Ads without knowingly clicking them on, which makes the true cost of a sale that comes from an ad quite high.
BigCommerce’s approach: no transaction fees, you drive traffic
BigCommerce has a different fee model. The Core plan costs $29 per month when billed annually, with no transaction fees. Payment processing is the only per-sale cost. BigCommerce Payments charges 1.4% plus £0.30 on the Core and Growth plans for UK sellers, with no extra gateway fee.
The trade-off is traffic. Etsy sends you 87 million active buyers; BigCommerce sends you zero. You build your audience through email, social media, SEO, paid ads, or word of mouth. That is why most sellers run Etsy and BigCommerce together: Etsy brings discovery, and BigCommerce captures repeat customers who already know you.
Fees on a real £40 sale
On a £40 item on Etsy, the listing fee (spread across sales) is roughly £0.20, transaction fee 6.5% is £2.60, and payment processing is £1.45, totalling £4.25. You keep £35.75. If that sale came through Offsite Ads, you owe another £6, leaving you £29.75.
On BigCommerce with the same £40 item and BigCommerce Payments, payment processing is 1.4% (£0.56) plus £0.30, totalling £0.86. You keep £39.14.
