Key Takeaways

  • This route is for eBay sellers opening their own shop on BigCommerce, or filling an existing BigCommerce shop with stock they already list on eBay.
  • BigCommerce charges a monthly plan fee instead of a commission. Its Core plan is $29 a month billed annually ($39 monthly) for shops with up to $30K in annual sales.
  • eBay is free to sell on for UK private sellers, but that offer excludes business sellers, who still pay eBay’s selling fees.
  • FLUF sees sales on both. A sale on eBay takes the product out of stock on BigCommerce, and a BigCommerce sale ends the eBay listing.

Who this suits

BigCommerce is a hosted shop platform aimed at growing businesses, and its plans are sized by annual sales. It makes most sense for an eBay business seller with a deep catalogue: car parts, trade supplies, collectables, anything with repeat buyers who would happily order direct if they could find you. On your own shop the customer list is yours, and you set the delivery options, returns policy and page layout.

It is a weaker fit for a private seller clearing a few items a month. eBay costs a UK private seller nothing to sell on, while a BigCommerce plan costs money every month whether anything sells or not.

Most sellers on this route keep eBay. eBay supplies new buyers searching by part number or item name, and the shop is where they come back to.

Comparing the costs

eBay says it is free to sell for UK-based private sellers in every category except vehicles. They can list up to 300 items a month for free, then pay 35p per listing. The same page says the offer excludes business sellers, so a registered business still pays eBay’s final value fees on each sale.

BigCommerce does not take a cut of each sale. You pay for the plan instead. Its pricing page lists Core at $29 a month billed annually ($39 monthly) for up to $30K in trailing twelve-month sales, and Growth at $79 annually ($105 monthly) for up to $100K. When you pass a threshold, the plan upgrades automatically.

Payments are the other cost. BigCommerce charges no extra fee on orders taken through its embedded payment providers, including BigCommerce Payments and Adyen. If you use a different provider, it adds 2.0% of the order value on Core, 1.0% on Growth or 0.6% on Scale, on top of what the provider itself charges.

Take a business seller turning over $2,000 a month through the shop. On Core with an embedded provider, BigCommerce costs the $29 plan fee and nothing per order. With a different provider, BigCommerce adds 2%, or about $40 that month, plus that provider’s own fees. The busier the shop, the more a flat fee works in your favour compared with a commission on every order.

Setting it up

  1. Connect eBay in FLUF by signing in, and bring your eBay listings in.
  2. Connect your BigCommerce store with the credentials you create in your BigCommerce control panel.
  3. Choose the eBay items to add to the shop. Start with lines that have repeat demand.
  4. Check each product’s title, photos, price and stock, then publish. FLUF creates the products in your BigCommerce catalogue.

Your shop prices do not have to match eBay. Many sellers price a little lower on their own site, since there is no commission to cover there.

FLUF ends the listing here when it sells elsewhere Yes Yes, the product goes out of stock

Because FLUF sees sales on both, you do not need to mark items sold by hand on this route. Single items are where this matters most: a one-off part sold on eBay stops showing as available in your shop.
