Gumtree to BigCommerce: A Web Shop for Your Ads
When a UK Gumtree seller should add a BigCommerce store, how delivery changes the sum, and the two jobs you still do by hand after a sale.
Gumtree works when the buyer lives nearby. A BigCommerce store is for everyone else: someone in another city who wants your reconditioned bike parts and expects to pay online and have them posted. FLUF Connect turns your Gumtree UK ads into store products, so you do not retype them. This suits a UK trade seller or a hobby business with repeat stock, and it is more than a person clearing a spare room needs.
In short
- Your store reaches buyers beyond collection distance, but you have to bring them there yourself.
- Gumtree charges sellers nothing when a buyer pays through it. BigCommerce’s Core plan is $29 a month billed annually, with no commission from BigCommerce.
- A store order comes into FLUF. Delete the Gumtree ad yourself, because FLUF cannot end it.
- FLUF does not see Gumtree sales. Mark the item sold in FLUF and the store stock goes down.
Which items belong in the store
Ask whether each one can be posted at a sensible cost. Parts, tools, collectables and small homeware can. A wardrobe cannot, unless you are also set up for courier delivery, and it is better left on Gumtree for collection. A store with thirty postable items that are always in stock will do more for you than one with three hundred one-off ads.
What each channel costs
Gumtree’s fees page says there are no seller fees when a buyer pays through it. The buyer pays a protection fee of £0.70 plus 5% to 10% of the price, plus delivery. Cash on collection costs neither of you anything.
BigCommerce’s pricing page lists its plans in dollars, so check the price for your region when you sign up:
| Plan | Per month, billed annually | Sales limit over 12 months |
|---|---|---|
| Core | $29 | $30,000 |
| Growth | $79 | $100,000 |
You also pay your payment provider on every store order. The 2.89% + $0.29 rate on that page applies to US-based businesses, so as a UK seller, compare the provider you plan to use. Gumtree is the cheaper channel on every single sale, and the store has to justify itself with buyers Gumtree would never have shown your ad to.
How to send Gumtree ads to BigCommerce
- Connect Gumtree UK in FLUF Connect through the FLUF browser extension. Your ads appear in your FLUF inventory.
- Connect your BigCommerce store from its card on the Channels screen.
- Filter the inventory to Gumtree UK and select the items you can post.
- Choose BigCommerce as the destination, check the prices and publish.

Read through what you are sending, because some wording does not suit a shop. “Collection from Leeds, cash only” helps on Gumtree and confuses a buyer in Bristol. Edit it in FLUF before you publish. Set your shipping rates in BigCommerce too, since Gumtree ads have no delivery price for the store to use.
After a sale
| What happens | In FLUF | On Gumtree |
|---|---|---|
| It sells in your store | The order comes in and stock goes down | Delete the ad yourself |
| It sells to a Gumtree buyer | Mark it sold, and the store stock goes down | Delete the ad yourself |
FLUF can neither read sales from Gumtree nor end an ad there. Keep the routine short: when a store order arrives, delete the ad before you pack it. When someone collects from your door, mark the item sold before they leave. Relisting and offer management are not available through FLUF on either channel.
What FLUF costs
Crosslisting, inventory sync and order sync are on every FLUF plan, from £9 a month for Starter. Relisting, offer management and smart pricing come with Pro and above. None of those three applies to this pair. You can start with 7 days for £1, then from £9/month.
