Subito to eBay: crosslist Italian ads after the 2026 fee change

eBay Italy and Subito are converging on the same fee model from 1 September 2026 — the buyer pays, the seller does not. Here is what actually changed, what did not, and how the two platforms map field by field. Or sell on both across 45 channels.

The 1 September 2026 change, and what it actually says

Two things happen on ebay.it on 1 September 2026. One is confirmed on eBay’s help pages; the other is only a clause in a contract.

Confirmed: buyers start paying

Buyers buying from private sellers registered in Italy or France pay a mandatory Buyer Protection fee, on the item price alone, shipping excluded: €0.10 fixed per item, plus 7% of the price up to €20, plus 4% of the portion from €20.01 to €300, plus 2% of the portion to €4,000, and nothing above that. The €0.10 is charged once across several units of one listing. Fees include 22% Italian VAT; a full refund returns the whole fee, a partial refund a proportional share.

eBay applies it automatically: eligible fixed-price and auction listings already live on ebay.it and ebay.fr get the fee on the day, and eBay tells sellers to take no action and not to change prices. You keep seeing your price without the fee; buyers see it with. Classified Ad listings (“Contatto Diretto”), Vehicles and certain Boats categories are excluded.

Unconfirmed: sellers stop paying

Section 6 of the new ebay.it User Agreement, effective the same day, says, verbatim: “Se sei un venditore privato e l’indirizzo associato al tuo account si trova nello Spazio Economico Europeo, non pagherai alcuna tariffa sulle transazioni.” In English: “If you are a private seller and the address associated with your account is in the European Economic Area, you will not pay any transaction fees.”

That is the mirror image of the buyer-side fee: the platform’s cut moves from seller to buyer. We are not presenting it as settled, for three reasons. The clause appears in the User Agreement and, as far as we can find, nowhere else on eBay’s Italian site. The live private-seller fee page, read on 29 August 2026, still set out the old schedule in full: 5% up to €2,000 plus 2% above, €0.35 per order, and a 0.43% regulatory adjustment fee. And it removes “tariffe sulle transazioni” specifically, which leaves insertion fees intact — 150 free listings a month, then €0.35.

So eBay has written the change into its contract but had not, at the end of August 2026, put it into its published fees. Contracts generally win, but the only real confirmation is your own account. Check your fee page and your first September invoice before you reprice anything. eBay has separately flagged selling-fee changes from 1 July 2026 on selected marketplaces including Italy, varying by category, condition and seller performance — a second thing to rule out if your fees surprise you. Professional sellers are unaffected: with a partita IVA you keep paying category final value fees, and Buyer Protection is included at no extra cost to the buyer.

The size and condition enforcement that is live now

For anyone crosslisting clothing this matters more this month than the fee question. Per eBay’s announcement: from June 2026 eBay began automatically normalising high-confidence size values on existing Apparel and Footwear listings, and from August 2026 new and existing listings with non-standard or missing size and/or condition are blocked or placed on hold. (Posts dating this to July 2026 are wrong.)

It lands on a Subito seller structurally. Subito’s size fields are scoped per clothing type, and watches, accessories and bags have no size field at all, so a Subito ad often carries no size, or free text that is not a standard eBay value. Pushed into an Apparel or Footwear category as-is, it does not go live. Give every garment a standard size and an explicit condition first.

Two Italian giants, and what each is for

Subito is Italy’s general classifieds site, founded in Milan in 2007 and owned through Adevinta by Permira and Blackstone. By its own account it has 26 million monthly unique users and 13 million live ads daily across 38 categories. Treat that with care: the same page gives a Digital Services Act disclosure of 15.3 million average monthly active recipients at 30 June 2025 — regulated, and much smaller — while Adevinta’s brand page says “more than 16 million buyers and sellers”.

Subito is not a fashion site with a sideline. Live counts from its public search API on 29 August 2026 gave 11.74 million ads in total, led by Per la casa e la persona at 4,910,519 (41.8%). Abbigliamento e Accessori holds 1,398,791 — more clothing alone than all of Electronics.

eBay is a different shape. It reported 136 million active buyers for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, with Q2 2026 GMV of $22.4 billion of which 52% was international. Read the definition: an active buyer is anyone who paid for a transaction in the previous twelve months, and buyers may hold more than one account. We give no eBay Italy figure deliberately — those counts trace to press releases citing 2014 and 2015 data.

Fees side by side, worked

Subito charges private sellers nothing to post in the ordinary categories and takes no commission on a sale. On TuttoSubito, its protected payment and shipping flow, the buyer pays the service commission: €1.20 plus 5% up to €300 excluding shipping, or €1.20 plus 4.5% above, capped at €91.20. The seller gets the full asking price; the buyer always pays shipping.

Two items, both platforms. The eBay seller column appears twice, for the reason above.

Item Platform Buyer pays Seller banks
€40 jacket Subito TuttoSubito €43.20 (€1.20 + 5%) €40.00
€40 jacket ebay.it private — User Agreement €42.30 (€0.10 + €1.40 + €0.80) €40.00
€40 jacket ebay.it private — published fee page €42.30 €37.48 (less 5%, €0.35, 0.43%)
€400 coat Subito TuttoSubito €419.20 (€1.20 + 4.5%) €400.00
€400 coat ebay.it private — User Agreement €414.70 (€0.10 + €1.40 + €11.20 + €2.00) €400.00
€400 coat ebay.it private — published fee page €414.70 €377.93 (less €20.00, €0.35, €1.72)

On the buyer side eBay is slightly cheaper at both points: its rate tapers, Subito’s steps down only once. On the seller side Subito’s zero is certain and eBay’s is not: the gap between the two eBay rows, about €22 on the coat, is exactly what rides on which page governs.

If you are a professional seller

If you hold a partita IVA, the ebay.it professional schedule applies instead. Clothing and accessories 11%. Shoes 11% up to €100 then 5%. Bags 11% up to €990 then 2%. Watches 11% to €100, 5% to €990, 2% above. Plus €0.35 per order and a 0.35% regulatory adjustment fee, charged on the total sale amount — item plus handling plus shipping plus VAT — not the item price alone.

The part rarely written about is the penalty structure. Top Rated sellers get 10% off the variable portion. A Below Standard seller pays 6 percentage points more, rising to 7 after four consecutive months — 11% becomes 17%. A “Very High” item-not-as-described rate adds 4 points, 5 after four months. Those surcharges dwarf the fee saving most sellers chase when comparing platforms, and they are earned by service metrics, not category.

Where Subito’s money comes from

If Subito takes no commission and charges nothing to post, something pays for it. That something is visibility. Subito sells Vetrina, In Cima, Super boost, Urgente and In Evidenza. Durations are published; prices are not published anywhere, for any of them — you find out what a bump costs at the point of buying it.

Bumping is paid only, and the workaround banned: deleting and reposting an ad to move it back to the top is prohibited, and duplicate detection is aggressive enough that reusing one photograph across two ads triggers a rejection on its own. eBay works the other way: ranking is Best Match and is not sold as a bump, the allowances and fees are published, and the paid upgrades are individually priced — a subtitle at €0.50 for a private seller, a second category at €0.35, a reserve at 3% with a €3 minimum and €150 maximum, with Best Offer and scheduled listings free. Over a month a Subito ad sinks unless you spend; an eBay listing costs nothing extra to keep visible.

Volume ceilings

Subito’s free-ad allowances are often misread as monthly quotas. They are concurrent caps, per sub-category — how many ads you may have live at once: Abbigliamento e Accessori 45, Libri e Riviste 130, Collezionismo 250, Arredamento 30, Elettrodomestici 20, Auto 1. Beyond the cap you pay. The same page carries a sentence worth reading twice: Subito reserves the right to decide when a user belongs in the business category “in base al numero di annunci inseriti” — a discretionary reclassification by Subito’s team, not a self-declaration you control. Extra accounts to dodge the caps are separately banned.

eBay publishes a flat number: 150 free listings a month for an ebay.it private seller, then €0.35 each; a Basic Store is €19.95 a month with 250 free listings, then €0.35 auction or €0.15 fixed-price. Work 300 clothing items through both. On Subito, 45 can be live free; the other 255 need paid slots at prices Subito does not publish, so the month cannot be budgeted. On eBay it is 150 free plus 150 at €0.35, €52.50 — or on a Basic Store, €19.95 plus 50 at €0.15, €27.45. Only one of the two can be worked out ahead of time.

Field mapping: Subito to eBay

A Subito ad is a short classified: title, plain-text body, six pictures, price, category, a few fashion attributes. An eBay listing is a catalogue record with a structured item-specifics block. The work is filling in what Subito never asked for.

Subito field eBay field Transfer Notes
Titolo Title ⚡ Mapped eBay’s limit is 80 characters, plus an optional 55-character subtitle. Subito titles are short, so the job is expanding: add the brand, size and colour eBay buyers search on.
Descrizione Description ⚡ Mapped A Subito body is plain pre-formatted text with real line breaks. eBay bans active content — JavaScript, Flash, plug-ins, form actions — rejecting the listing with “Disallowed JavaScript/HTML Syntax”. Length is no constraint: 500,000 characters, every HTML tag counting.
Foto Pictures ✅ Automatic Subito gives 6 free, and the paid “6 Foto aggiuntive” upgrade is not available for fashion — a clothing ad is hard-capped at 6, against eBay’s 24 free, 12 MB each, minimum 500 px. Subito images are watermarked; reshoot rather than re-export.
Prezzo Price ✅ Automatic Same number, different meaning after 1 September: eBay buyers see it with Buyer Protection added. Do not discount to compensate.
Categoria Category ⚠️ Manual input Subito has 7 macro-categories and 38 leaves; fashion is one leaf. eBay’s tree is far deeper, and the category decides which item specifics and condition values you may use.
Marca Brand ⚡ Mapped Subito’s brand lists are scoped per clothing_type, no global enum — 969 to 1,200 brands per type. A brand valid under Scarpe need not exist under Borse e zaini.
Taglia Size ⚠️ Manual input Size enums are also per clothing_type, and watches, accessories and bags have no size field at all. Since August 2026 a missing or non-standard size blocks an Apparel or Footwear listing.
clothing_gender Department ⚡ Mapped Subito uses 1 Uomo, 2 Donna, 3 Unisex. eBay splits clothing by department before you reach the item, so this often picks the category rather than a field in it.
Condizione Condition ⚡ Mapped Five Subito values against a category-dependent eBay set. Not one-to-one — see below.
Item specifics ⚠️ Manual input eBay’s real cost of entry. Required, Required Soon and Recommended tiers, every Required one mandatory on a new or revised listing: “If your listing is missing the required item specifics, you won’t be able to list your item”. They land on rolling per-category dates in Seller Hub.
Custom label / SKU ❌ Not available A Subito ad carries no SKU field of any kind. Stock codes must be introduced at the crosslisting step.
Regione / Provincia Item location ⚡ Mapped Subito requires an Italian location and the goods must physically be in Italy.

One point of precision: eBay’s published item-specifics releases stop at 2023 — there is no 2025 or 2026 cutover. Check your categories in Seller Hub.

Condition mapping

Subito has five condition values, whatever you sell: Nuovo, Come nuovo, Ottimo, Buono, Danneggiato. eBay’s are category-dependent. That is the trap: one Subito value maps to different eBay values depending on where the item lands, so a single lookup table is right in clothing and wrong in books.

Subito eBay clothing eBay shoes eBay books eBay general merchandise
Nuovo New with tags New with box Brand new New
Come nuovo New without tags New without box Like new Open box
Ottimo Pre-owned: Excellent Pre-owned – Excellent Very good Used
Buono Pre-owned – Good Pre-owned – Good Good Used
Danneggiato Pre-owned – Fair Pre-owned – Fair Acceptable For parts or not working

The clothing column is recent. eBay revised clothing conditions in mid-February 2025: the single “Pre-owned” value became Excellent, Good and Fair, and existing Pre-owned and Used clothing listings were auto-migrated to Pre-owned – Good. The definitions are what a dispute is judged against. Excellent is “Like new, previously worn, but with little to no signs of wear”, Good is “Gently used with light signs of wear and/or visible flaws”, Fair is “Significantly visible flaws, heavy signs of wear, and/or missing or damaged components”.

The same update renamed “New with defects” to “New with imperfections” in Clothing only. Shoes still use “New with defects”. They are not interchangeable: send one to the other’s category and you get an invalid value, not a near miss. Neither has a Subito equivalent. Two further traps: “New other” is gone from eBay’s list — it is “Open box” now — so old templates carrying it are stale; and Subito’s display strings are unstable, the enum advertising “Buono” while a live ad returns “Buono – usato ma ben conservato”. Match on the enum key.

The irreversibility asymmetry

On Subito, title, description, price and photos are editable after publication. Email, regione, provincia, category and the private-versus-business flag are not, and every edit re-enters moderation. Because delete-and-repost is banned and the same item may not be posted in more than one category, region or province, a category mistake is unfixable by any sanctioned route — the ad sits in the wrong place for up to 365 days. On eBay you simply revise the listing, subject to satisfying the current Required item specifics. So get the Subito ad right first, then push to eBay: do the thinking where a mistake is permanent, and let the forgiving platform inherit the result.

Shipping: Italy only, or everywhere

TuttoSubito is national by design: “le consegne vengono effettuate solo sul territorio Italiano”. The mechanics are correspondingly tight. Couriers are Poste Italiane, which cannot be deselected, plus InPost, BRT Fermopoint and UPS. Parcels go in four bands, from PICCOLO at 2 kg and 30×25×20 cm to MAXI at 20 kg. You must create the label within 48 hours of payment and dispatch within 6 days or the sale cancels itself,, and there is no home pickup.

eBay is the inverse. For an Italy-registered private seller the international fee is free to the Eurozone and Sweden, 1.95% to the rest of Europe, 1.46% to the USA and Canada, and 4.03% to the UK and everywhere else. Selling into Germany, France, Spain or the Netherlands costs nothing extra at all.

So the honest framing is not that eBay is cheaper. It is that eBay is how an Italian seller stops being confined to Italy. Subito’s 1.4 million live clothing ads compete inside one country; eBay’s Q2 2026 GMV was 52% international. Two operational notes: eBay’s Italian label service is run by Packlink as eBay Spedizioni, with carriers including BRT, DHL, Poste Italiane and UPS, and the User Agreement authorises eBay to charge you for labels. And eBay Italy requires signature on delivery on any transaction totalling €550 or more for protection against an item-not-received claim.

What syncs, and what does not

FLUF Connect reads the ads you already have on Subito and crosslists them onward, to eBay and any of 45 channels from one dashboard. On the eBay side it supports relisting, offer management and order sync, included in every plan rather than sold as an add-on.

Now the gap: sold-on-Subito detection is not wired. If an item sells on Subito it does not automatically come down from your other channels. The reasoning is sound. Subito ads expire on their own after 365 days, and the public index also drops ads that are merely paused or sitting in moderation after an edit — and every edit re-enters moderation. So “gone from the index” overwhelmingly does not mean “sold”, and acting on it would delist live stock from every other channel, repeatedly. A false delist costs a real listing; a missed one costs a manual check. Run eBay as your synced channel and check Subito by hand.

Regulation and tax

GPSR

The EU General Product Safety Regulation has applied since 13 December 2024, to both new and second-hand products sold into the EU. Second-hand is not exempt. Business sellers must give the manufacturer’s name and contact; an EU Responsible Person where the manufacturer sits outside the EU; model number, pictures and type; safety warnings in the buyer’s local language; and CE marking where required. Antiques — including collectors’ items and works of art — are excluded, along with medicines, food, live animals and plants, GMOs and pesticides. eBay’s enforcement is silent rather than loud: where a seller fails a country’s regulations, eBay hides that seller’s listings from buyers living there. No error, no notice.

DAC7

DAC7 is implemented in Italy by D.Lgs. 1 marzo 2023 n. 32. The exemption requires both conditions — fewer than 30 sales and no more than €2,000 in a calendar year — so the trigger is 30 or more sales or more than €2,000. eBay reports on the same test, annually; the reported corrispettivo is net of platform fees and the deadline is 31 January.

The Italian split matters. Subito reports only TuttoSubito transactions — a cash sale arranged over Subito messaging never touches its payment rails. Every eBay sale runs through the platform, so there your reportable total and your sales are one number. Moving volume to eBay creates no new liability, but it does make more of your activity visible. Both platforms enforce the paperwork with money: failing Subito’s DAC7 form can suspend transactions and deactivate the account, and eBay blocks incoming payments if the tax data it asks for is not supplied within 30 days.

The €5,000 correction

You will read that you can sell €5,000 a year tax-free in Italy. That is wrong: the figure is the INPS gestione separata registration threshold, not an income tax allowance. Whether you are trading is decided by “attività abituale” under TUIR article 55, which has no euro threshold at all — it turns on the habitual, organised nature of the activity. Genuinely occasional sales fall under TUIR article 67 as redditi diversi, declarable from the first euro. Neither route contains a €5,000 free pass. If you list hundreds of items across two marketplaces on a recurring basis, talk to a commercialista.

Sources and verification

Left out because we could not verify it: Subito publishes no price for any promotion option, for paid ad slots beyond the free caps, or for its business subscription, and no title or description character limits; its GMV is unpublished. Circulated third-party TuttoSubito commission figures contradict Subito’s own policy page and were excluded. We give no eBay Italy audience figure — those counts trace to press releases citing 2014 and 2015 data. And the seller-side fee position rests on the User Agreement alone, because eBay’s fee page still showed the old schedule on 29 August 2026. Confirm it against your own account.

Frequently Asked Questions

The ebay.it User Agreement effective 1 September 2026 says that a private seller whose account address is in the European Economic Area “will not pay any transaction fees”. That is the only eBay page we could find stating it. The live private-seller fee page still showed the old schedule on 29 August 2026 — 5% of the total sale amount up to €2,000 plus 2% above, €0.35 per order and a 0.43% regulatory adjustment fee. Treat the change as written into the contract but not yet reflected in the fee schedule, and check your own account and your first September invoice.

From 1 September 2026, buyers purchasing from private sellers registered in Italy or France pay €0.10 per item, plus 7% of the item price up to €20, plus 4% of the portion from €20.01 to €300, plus 2% of the portion from €300.01 to €4,000, and nothing above €4,000. Shipping is excluded from the calculation and the fees include 22% Italian VAT. On a €40 item that is €2.30; on a €400 item, €14.70. eBay adds it automatically to eligible existing listings and tells sellers not to change their prices.

Posting a private ad in the ordinary categories is free, and Subito takes no commission from the seller. On a TuttoSubito sale the buyer pays the service commission: €1.20 plus 5% on an item priced up to €300 excluding shipping, or €1.20 plus 4.5% above €300, capped at €91.20. The buyer also always pays shipping. Where Subito does make money from sellers is visibility — Vetrina, In Cima, Super boost, Urgente and In Evidenza are all paid, and Subito publishes no price for any of them.

The allowances are concurrent caps per sub-category, not monthly quotas: 45 for Abbigliamento e Accessori, 130 for Libri e Riviste, 250 for Collezionismo, 30 for Arredamento, 20 for Elettrodomestici and 1 for Auto. Beyond the cap you pay, at prices Subito does not publish. eBay is simpler to budget: 150 free listings a month for an ebay.it private seller, then €0.35 each. Listing 300 clothing items in a month costs €52.50 on eBay, or €27.45 on a €19.95 Basic Store with its 250 free listings.

Almost certainly size or condition. eBay began automatically normalising high-confidence size values on existing Apparel and Footwear listings in June 2026, and since August 2026 new and existing listings with a non-standard or missing size and/or condition are blocked or placed on hold. Subito ads are a common source of the problem, because Subito scopes size fields per clothing type and gives watches, accessories and bags no size field at all. Add a standard size and an explicit condition value before you crosslist.

They map differently depending on the eBay category, which is the trap. In clothing, Nuovo becomes New with tags, Come nuovo becomes New without tags, Ottimo becomes Pre-owned - Excellent, Buono becomes Pre-owned - Good and Danneggiato becomes Pre-owned - Fair. In books the same five run Brand new, Like new, Very good, Good and Acceptable. In general merchandise they run New, Open box, Used, Used and For parts or not working. Note that “New with imperfections” exists in Clothing only; Shoes still use “New with defects”.

No. The €5,000 figure is the INPS gestione separata registration threshold, not an income tax allowance. Whether you are trading is decided by “attività abituale” under TUIR article 55, which carries no euro threshold at all, and genuinely occasional sales fall under article 67 as redditi diversi, declarable from the first euro. Separately, DAC7 reporting is triggered at 30 or more sales or more than €2,000 a year. Subito reports only TuttoSubito transactions, while every eBay sale runs through the platform.
