Crosslist from Subito to Etsy — What Etsy Will Actually Accept

Etsy takes what a seller made, designed, handpicked or sourced — and "handpicked" means 20 years old. Most Subito stock does not qualify. Here is the slice that does, what it costs, and what breaks in the move.

Key Takeaways — crosslisting from Subito to Etsy

  • Etsy will refuse most of your Subito stock, and that is the whole story of this route. Under the Seller Policy that took effect on 9 July 2026, everything on Etsy must be “made, designed, handpicked, or sourced by a seller”. A 2019 phone or last season’s trainers is none of those.
  • “Handpicked” means 20+ years old — and Etsy may ask you to prove it with photographs and evidence of source, age, designer or materials. Resold items newer than 20 years are barred outright, “even if the item is designed to appear vintage”.
  • The eligible slice is real, though: anything made before 2006, anything you make yourself, and the beads, fabric and findings sitting in your Subito Market ads.
  • The fee models are opposites. Subito charges the seller nothing — posting is free and TuttoSubito’s service fee is paid by the buyer. Etsy charges the seller at four points: $0.20 to list, 6.5% of the sale, 4% + €0.30 to process the payment in Italy, and a 0.80% Italian regulatory operating fee.
  • Photos shrink, text grows. A Subito Market ad carries six photos; an Etsy listing takes twenty. Your Italian ad copy has to become an English 140-character title plus thirteen tags.
  • Listings expire on different clocks. A standard Subito ad runs 365 days. An Etsy listing expires after four months and costs another $0.20 to renew.
  • DAC7 counts each platform separately. Thirty sales or €2,000 on Etsy alone gets you reported to the Agenzia delle Entrate, whatever your Subito volume was.
  • Cost: FLUF Connect crosslists to 45 marketplace channels from one dashboard. £1 for 7 days, then plans from £9/month (Starter). There is no free plan.

The rule that decides everything: what Etsy will take

Every other guide to this route starts with fees. That is the wrong end. Start here instead, because for most Subito sellers the answer to “can I move my ads to Etsy?” is no, and finding that out after you have paid to list is an expensive way to learn it.

Etsy is not a general second-hand marketplace, and the way it says so changed recently. Most guides still repeat the old formula — “handmade, vintage or craft supplies”. The Seller Policy effective 9 July 2026 uses a different and broader sentence: “everything listed for sale on Etsy must be made, designed, handpicked, or sourced by a seller.” Those four verbs are defined in the Creativity Standards, and every item must, in Etsy’s words, “incorporate a human touch”.

  • Made by a seller — physical items made by hand or with your own tools, including a 3D printer, CNC machine, Cricut or laser cutter, produced from your original design. Assembling something to a manufacturer’s instructions does not count, and neither does a commercially available item with only superficial alteration.
  • Designed by a seller — your original designs produced or printed by a third party, or sold as a digital download. Print-on-demand qualifies. So do AI creations you prompted, provided the AI use is disclosed in the listing description.
  • Handpicked by a seller“Items that are 20+ years old, that the seller personally curated or collected.” In 2026 that is 2006 or earlier. Etsy may ask for extra photo documentation of source, age, designer or materials. It explicitly bars “resold commercially available items that are newer than 20 years old, even if the item is designed to appear vintage”.
  • Sourced by a seller — craft supplies, meaning tools or materials whose primary purpose is making something else by hand, plus party supplies and buyer-personalised print-on-demand. These may be commercially manufactured. But blank items that are ready to use without craft intervention — plain t-shirts, hats, tumblers — do not qualify, and neither do generic cooking, office, garden, automotive or cosmetic supplies.

Outside those four, reselling and dropshipping are prohibited. Etsy’s own help documentation is blunt about it: drop shipping is not allowed except for craft and party supplies, and even adding a card or gift tag to an otherwise unaltered commercial item does not make it eligible.

Nor is this dormant policy. Etsy reported removing 22% more listings and suspending 1.5 times more sellers under the Creativity Standards in 2024 than the year before, and said in July 2026 that it is applying large language models to that enforcement. If your listing is removed you have 180 days to appeal through Shop Manager, and Etsy states that a video of a finished item is not sufficient proof that you made it.

All of which matters because Subito is built for precisely the inventory Etsy excludes. Subito’s own company page describes 38 categories spanning motors, property, jobs, electronics and home — a national classifieds board where people sell things they already own.

Take this as the honest framing for the whole page. This is a narrow route, not a pipe. If you run a Subito shop clearing house-move stock, Etsy has nothing for you. If a meaningful share of what you sell was made before 2006, or you make things yourself, read on — the economics are genuinely good, because Etsy’s buyers pay vintage prices that a Milanese classifieds board never will.

Which Subito ads actually qualify

Working from the categories Subito actually runs, the crossover is roughly this:

Typical Subito ad Etsy-eligible? Why
1970s Murano glass, mid-century lighting, Bitossi ceramics Yes — handpicked Comfortably over 20 years; among Etsy’s strongest categories
1990s designer clothing, 1980s Levi’s, pre-2006 band tees Yes — handpicked The 20-year line falls in 2006, so most Y2K stock now qualifies
Vinyl, cameras, typewriters, film posters from before 2006 Yes — handpicked Date of manufacture is the test, not condition
Fabric offcuts, beads, buttons, yarn, leather, findings Yes — sourced Craft supplies may be new and factory-made
Furniture or jewellery you build yourself Yes — made Declare any production partner
Last season’s trainers, a 2019 iPhone, an IKEA sofa No Resold and under 20 years old — barred even if it looks vintage
New stock bought wholesale to flip No Reselling mass-produced new goods is prohibited
Blank t-shirts, hats or tumblers No Ready to use without craft intervention, so not a craft supply
Cars, motorbikes, property, job ads No Not goods Etsy carries at all

A practical filter before you crosslist anything: sort your Subito ads by decade of manufacture. Everything 2006 and earlier is a candidate. Everything after it needs to be handmade or a craft supply, or it stays on Subito.

Fees, worked: free at one end, four charges at the other

The two platforms have opposite commercial models, and the gap is wider than sellers expect.

What Subito costs you

Nothing, in the ordinary case. Subito states plainly that posting an ad is free in most categories — only Nautica, Servizi and Attrezzature di lavoro have paid thresholds. There is no sale commission.

Where money does change hands, it is the buyer’s. Under TuttoSubito, Subito’s integrated payment-and-shipping service, the buyer pays a service fee of €1.20 plus 5% of the purchase price up to €300, then €1.20 plus 4.5% above that, capped at €91.20. Parcels run to 15 kg, or 20 kg for home delivery. The seller is paid out 3–8 working days after the confirmation window to a bank account, or 1–3 days to PayPal.

Optional visibility costs extra: Super boost from €0.90, In evidenza from €3.99, Rimetti in cima from €0.95, Metti in vetrina from €0.60, Urgente from €0.70. If you have read older guides quoting €2.60 / €5 / €14.30 tiers, those are stale.

What Etsy costs you

Four separate charges, all on the seller, all confirmed on Etsy’s own fee schedule:

  • Listing fee: $0.20 USD per item, charged when you list and again every renewal.
  • Transaction fee: 6.5% of the displayed price plus shipping and gift wrapping — note that shipping is inside the base, which catches out sellers who plan to recover postage separately.
  • Payment processing, Italy: 4% + €0.30 per order. Italy is in Etsy Payments, so this is the applicable rate.
  • Regulatory operating fee, Italy: 0.80%. Widely republished guides still quote 0.32%; that figure is out of date. For reference the same table sets the UK at 0.48% and France at 1.14%.

A €60 vintage lamp, both ways

Subito (TuttoSubito) Etsy
Listing cost €0.00 ~€0.17 ($0.20)
Commission on sale €0.00 to the seller €3.90 (6.5%)
Payment processing Included €2.70 (4% + €0.30)
Regulatory operating fee €0.48 (0.80%)
Seller keeps, before postage €60.00 ~€52.75
Buyer pays €64.20 (€1.20 + 5% fee) €60.00 + postage

Roughly 12% of the sale price disappears on Etsy and none of it does on Subito. That is not an argument against Etsy — it is an argument about which item goes where. Etsy is worth 12% when its buyers pay materially more for the same object, which for genuine vintage they routinely do, and when it reaches buyers outside Italy, which Subito does not. It is not worth 12% for a mid-range used item that would clear at the same price locally.

One further charge to plan for: Offsite Ads. Etsy bills 15% of attributed orders, dropping to 12% once your shop passes $10,000 in the prior 365 days — and at that same $10,000 point participation becomes mandatory. A shop that grows cannot opt out.

Field mapping: Subito ad to Etsy listing

Structurally these are different objects. A Subito ad is a short local notice. An Etsy listing is a search-optimised product record built to be found by strangers on another continent.

Subito field Etsy field Transfer Notes
Titolo Title (140 characters) ⚡ Rewritten Etsy allows 140 characters and rewards descriptive, keyword-led titles. A terse Italian ad title wastes the space
Descrizione Description ⚡ Translated Needs English for Etsy’s dominant buyer base
Photos (6) Photos (20) + 2 videos ✅ Automatic All six transfer with room to spare. Etsy’s cap is 20, not the 10 most guides still quote. Vendor minimum on Subito is 600×600 px, comfortably above Etsy’s needs
Prezzo (EUR) Price ✅ Automatic Keep EUR to avoid the 2.5% conversion fee — see below
Categoria Category / taxonomy ⚡ Smart mapped Subito’s 38 classifieds categories do not align with Etsy’s craft taxonomy; FLUF maps to the nearest equivalent
Tags (13, 20 chars each) ⚠️ Manual Subito has no tag concept. These are the main way Etsy buyers find you, so they are worth writing by hand
“When was it made?” attribute ⚠️ Manual Mandatory for handpicked items. This is the field that carries the 20-year claim
Condizione (free text) Item condition attributes ⚡ Mapped Subito’s condition is prose in the description; Etsy wants structured attributes
Spedizione / TuttoSubito Shipping profile ⚠️ Manual TuttoSubito is Italy-only. Etsy needs an international profile with real weights
Economic operator / product safety ⚠️ Manual GPSR fields, set once at account level — see the tax section

The fields worth your time

Tags. Thirteen of them, twenty characters each, and they are the single largest lever on whether an Etsy listing is ever seen. Nothing in a Subito ad populates them. Write them per item, in English, as phrases a buyer would type: “murano glass vase”, not “vase”.

The age attribute. Etsy asks when a handpicked item was made and shows it publicly. Guessing here is the fastest route to a removed listing. If you cannot date an item to before 2006 with confidence, it is not a vintage listing.

Photos. This is the one place the move is pure gain. Subito Market ads are capped at six images — the paid “6 foto aggiuntive” option exists only in Immobili and Lavoro, not Market. Etsy gives you twenty slots and two videos. Vintage sells on detail shots: maker’s marks, wear, labels, base stamps. Shoot for Etsy, not for Subito, and the Subito ad still gets its best six.

Language, currency and the 2.5% you can avoid

Subito is an Italian-language board serving Italian buyers. Etsy’s demand is overwhelmingly English-speaking. Translation is not optional polish here; it is the work.

Three things must actually change per item: the title, rewritten in English to fill 140 characters; the description, translated rather than machine-dumped, because Etsy vintage buyers read closely and ask about condition; and the thirteen tags, which must be English search phrases.

Currency is a smaller but real decision. Etsy charges a 2.5% currency conversion fee when the listing currency differs from your payment account currency. An Italian seller banking in EUR should list in EUR and pay nothing. Listing in USD to look native to American buyers costs 2.5% on every sale. For most sellers that is the wrong trade.

365 days against four months

The two platforms expire listings on very different clocks, and crosslisting makes the mismatch your problem.

A standard Subito ad runs 365 days — 60 days in Servizi and Attrezzature di lavoro. At expiry Subito emails a renewal link and you have no more than ten days to use it before the renewal is lost. Etsy listings expire after four months and cost another $0.20 to renew, automatically if you leave auto-renew on.

So a single item crosslisted today will hit its Etsy expiry roughly three times before its Subito ad lapses once. Budget $0.60–$0.80 a year in renewals per slow-moving vintage listing, and remember that a lapsed Subito ad is not automatically the same as a sold item — do not delete the Etsy listing because the Subito one aged out.

What FLUF Connect syncs, and what it does not

Being precise about this matters more than making it sound good.

What works. FLUF Connect creates the Etsy listing from your product record: photos, price, description, category mapping and the fields above. Etsy supports order sync, sold-detection and relisting through FLUF, so a sale on Etsy is picked up and can drop the item from your other channels automatically.

What does not. Subito is a create-and-publish channel in FLUF Connect, and nothing more. It does not report sales back. There is no sold-detection on Subito, no order sync and no automatic delisting when a Subito buyer takes the item. If you sell the vintage lamp on Subito, you must remove the Etsy listing yourself. The reverse direction — Etsy sale, Subito ad still live — is equally manual on the Subito side.

For one-of-one vintage that is the central operational risk of running both, and it is worth saying plainly rather than burying: a single object listed in two places can be bought twice. Etsy cancellations damage your shop metrics; a Subito no-show damages nothing but your reputation locally. If you only check one thing daily, check that anything sold on Subito has been pulled from Etsy.

DAC7, the trader question, and GPSR

DAC7 counts platforms separately. Italy implemented the EU rules through D.Lgs. 1 March 2023 n. 32. A seller escapes reporting only by staying under both 30 relevant transactions and €2,000 of consideration in the period — and those thresholds are measured per platform. Thirty sales on Etsy triggers an Etsy report to the Agenzia delle Entrate regardless of what you did on Subito, and vice versa. Splitting volume across two marketplaces does not halve your exposure; it just produces two independent tests.

The trader question. Italian law sets no euro threshold at which a private seller becomes a business. The test is abitualità — habitual, organised activity carried on for profit. Selling your own used possessions at or below what you paid is generally outside it. Buying to resell, regularly and systematically, is inside it and needs a partita IVA. Crosslisting does not change the test, but it does change the evidence: two marketplaces, consistent listing behaviour and a repeat pattern look a great deal more like a business than an occasional clear-out. Take advice from a commercialista before you scale, not after.

GPSR. Etsy requires sellers to add an economic operator to the account, keep the Manufacturers field current, and complete the product safety information field. Products cannot be placed on the EU market without an EU-based economic operator responsible for safety tasks. An Italian seller is itself EU-established, so this burden is much lighter for you than for a British or American shop — but the listing fields still have to be filled, and listings that leave them blank in regulated categories can be hidden from EU buyers.

Sources and verification

What we could not verify, and therefore left out. Subito’s Pro-account rules and the professionals-only TuttoSubito terms: the pages exist, but we did not read their contents, so we have not characterised them. Etsy’s active-seller count and GMS-per-buyer figures, which circulate from earnings-call coverage rather than the shareholder letter. The VAT treatment of Etsy’s seller fees for an Italian seller. And any euro threshold for the Italian trader test — there isn’t one, and pages that quote a number are inventing it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Only if they fit one of Etsy's four categories. Since the Seller Policy that took effect on 9 July 2026, everything on Etsy must be made, designed, handpicked or sourced by a seller. "Handpicked" means at least 20 years old, so in 2026 that is anything manufactured in 2006 or earlier. An ordinary used item from the last two decades — a 2019 phone, last season's trainers, a recent sofa — is not eligible, and Etsy bars resold goods newer than 20 years "even if the item is designed to appear vintage".

Four charges, all on the seller. $0.20 to list each item, 6.5% of the total order as a transaction fee (which includes any shipping and gift wrapping you charge), 4% plus €0.30 for payment processing on an Italian bank account, and an Italian regulatory operating fee of 0.80%. On a €60 sale that comes to roughly €7.25, leaving about €52.75 before postage. Subito, by contrast, charges the seller nothing — its TuttoSubito service fee is paid by the buyer.

No. That figure is out of date and still appears on a lot of guides. Etsy's current table sets Italy at 0.80%. For comparison the same table shows the United Kingdom at 0.48%, Spain at 0.88%, France at 1.14% and Hungary at 1.97%. The rates were revised on 22 June 2026, so anything published before then should be treated as stale.

All of them, with room left over. A Subito Market ad carries six photos, and the paid "6 foto aggiuntive" option only exists in the Immobili and Lavoro sections, not Market. An Etsy listing takes up to 20 photos plus two videos. This is the one part of the move that is pure gain — shoot extra detail shots for Etsy, because maker's marks, labels and honest wear photographs are what sell a 20-year-old object to a stranger.

No, and this is the most important operational limit of the route. Subito is a create-and-publish channel in FLUF Connect: it does not report sales back, so there is no sold-detection, no order sync and no automatic delisting from Subito. Etsy does support order sync and sold-detection, so a sale on Etsy can drop the item from your other channels. But if a Subito buyer takes the item, you must pull the Etsy listing yourself. For one-of-one vintage, that daily check is the difference between running two channels and overselling.

In practice, yes. Subito is an Italian-language board serving Italian buyers, while Etsy's demand is overwhelmingly English-speaking. Three things need real rewriting per item: the title, expanded into English across Etsy's 140 characters; the description, properly translated rather than machine-dumped, because vintage buyers read closely and ask about condition; and the 13 tags, which are the main way Etsy buyers find you and have no equivalent field on Subito.

Euros, in almost every case. Etsy charges a 2.5% currency conversion fee whenever the listing currency differs from your payment account currency. An Italian seller banking in euros who lists in euros pays nothing. Listing in dollars to look native to American buyers costs 2.5% of every sale, which is rarely worth the presentational gain.

It creates two independent tests rather than splitting one. Under Italy's implementation, D.Lgs. 1 March 2023 n. 32, a seller avoids reporting only by staying under both 30 relevant transactions and €2,000 of consideration in the period — and those thresholds are measured per platform. Thirty sales on Etsy alone triggers an Etsy report to the Agenzia delle Entrate whatever your Subito volume was, and the reverse is equally true.

A standard Subito ad runs 365 days, dropping to 60 days in the Servizi and Attrezzature di lavoro categories. When it expires Subito emails a renewal link that you must use within ten days or lose. An Etsy listing expires after four months and costs another $0.20 to renew, automatically if auto-renew is on. So a slow-moving item hits its Etsy expiry roughly three times before the Subito ad lapses once — budget around $0.60 to $0.80 a year per listing.
