How to Sell on TikTok Shop UK — The Complete Seller Guide
The 9% commission and what it is actually charged on, the invite-only second-hand rules, dispatch SLAs, payout timings and UK tax — plus how to run TikTok Shop alongside your other channels.
- Scale: 300,000+ UK small businesses selling as of July 2026, with new sellers joining at +200% year on year, reaching 30 million+ UK monthly users.
- Commission is 9%, inclusive of VAT, across all categories — the highest rate of any Western TikTok Shop market. Electronics and selected Beauty categories can qualify for 5%.
- The hidden charge: a £0.50 Shipped by Seller fee per delivered order, introduced 15 July 2025. Fulfilled by TikTok orders are exempt.
- Second-hand is invite-only. You cannot simply list used goods. Pre-owned fashion is capped at £500 per listing, the title must contain “second-hand”, “pre-owned” or “pre-loved”, and you need at least two images — one of which must show the flaws.
- UK-only, genuinely: you need a UK address, a UK bank account, and stock physically held in the UK. Cross-border selling into TikTok Shop UK is not permitted.
- Cross-list with FLUF Connect: run TikTok Shop alongside Vinted, eBay, Depop and more from one catalogue — see how crosslisting works. Plans start at £19/month.

What is TikTok Shop?
TikTok Shop is native in-app commerce: buyers discover a product in a video, a livestream or a shop tab, and check out without leaving TikTok. It is discovery-led rather than search-led, which makes it structurally different from every other channel in these guides — nobody arrives at TikTok Shop knowing what they want to buy.
The UK was TikTok Shop’s first Western market, launching in 2021, and remains one of its most mature. As of July 2026, TikTok reports more than 300,000 UK small businesses selling on the platform, with new-seller sign-ups running at +200% year on year. TikTok itself reaches 30 million+ UK monthly users, roughly half the country, with over a third of them aged 35 or older — a useful corrective to the assumption that this is a teenage audience.
Independent research commissioned by TikTok put the platform’s contribution to UK GDP at £10bn in 2025, supporting 153,000 jobs, with £3.4bn of that flowing through small businesses.
Globally, TikTok Shop’s GMV reached US$64.3bn in 2025, up 94% year on year — a growth arc from $0.9bn in 2021 through $33.2bn in 2024. It now operates around twenty seller markets across the Americas, Asia and Europe.

Why sell on TikTok Shop in 2026?
Demand you do not have to search-optimise for
On eBay, a buyer types what they want. On TikTok Shop, the platform decides what to show them. That flips the acquisition problem: instead of competing for a keyword, you are competing for watch time. For products that are visually demonstrable — a texture, a transformation, a before-and-after — this is a genuinely better mechanism than a search box.
The creator layer does your distribution
85% of UK businesses on the platform have collaborated with creators, and active TikTok Shop creators grew 72% year on year. Hundreds of UK creators now earn more than the average UK salary from commission alone. You set a commission rate; creators promote your product to their audience; you pay only on sales. It is the closest thing in e-commerce to performance-only distribution at scale.
Live shopping is real here, unlike most Western markets
6,000+ UK live shopping broadcasts run every day and UK live sales grew 55% year on year. The proof points are specific: one UK butcher took £8,000 in a three-hour broadcast — three to four days of high-street trading. A UK jewellery brand reached six-figure live sales from four sessions a week.
The effort involved is the part nobody advertises. One of the UK’s top-performing sellers streamed 860 hours of live content across 2025 — about two and a half hours every single day. Live commerce works, but it is a job, not a tactic.
The honest case against
The UK pays the highest TikTok Shop commission of any Western market. Total cost of selling is commonly put at 30–45% of revenue once commission, affiliate fees, shipping, returns and ads are counted, and one experienced practitioner’s view is that the average operator underestimates total fees by 25–30%. Trustpilot reviewers give TikTok Shop one star 91% of the time, with complaints centred on undelivered items, unresponsive support and payment problems reported by small sellers.
Add that policy-violation penalties can withhold your balance for up to 90 calendar days, and that TikTok does not publish the violation-point values or the totals that trigger suspension, and you have a channel worth using but not depending on.
TikTok Shop fees explained
Commission: 9%, and what it is charged on
TikTok Shop UK’s official documentation is unambiguous: “The Commission Fee rate, inclusive of applicable taxes, including but not limited to Value Added Tax (VAT), is 9%.”
Two things trip sellers up, and both are confirmed by TikTok’s own formula:
- The 9% is charged on the VAT-inclusive gross the customer paid, not on your ex-VAT revenue.
- Customer-paid shipping sits inside the commission base. Charging £3.95 postage means paying 9% on that £3.95 too.
The official calculation is: commission = (net sales + customer-paid shipping + platform discount − refunds − discount refunds) × 9%. Net sales means the original price less seller and platform discounts.
Reduced rates exist for new sellers, for Electronics, for a selected set of Beauty & Personal Care categories, and for sellers completing Seller Missions. The commonly quoted reduced rate is 5%, though the full per-category table is published only as a downloadable spreadsheet in Seller Centre.
The commission history — and how to spot a stale guide
| Rate | Period | Status |
|---|---|---|
| ~1.8–2% promotional | Launch era, first ~90 days | Dead. Still quoted by several ranking pages |
| 5% | 2023 | Superseded |
| 9% | September 2024 onward | Current |
If a guide tells you TikTok Shop charges 1.8% for your first 90 days, it is roughly two years out of date. For context, Germany, Spain, France, Italy and Ireland only moved from 5% to 9% on 8 January 2026, and the US still sits at 6% — the UK has paid the top rate longest.
Every other fee
| Fee | Amount | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | £0.00 | Registration and listings carry no charge |
| Payment processing | None published | See the caveat below |
| Shipped by Seller fee | £0.50 per delivered order, incl. VAT | Self-shipped orders only; FBT exempt. Introduced 15 July 2025 |
| Affiliate commission | 1% minimum, 80% maximum — you set it | Stacks on top of the 9%, also charged on gross |
| Postage | Your cost | Sellers bear all delivery costs on Ship by Seller |
| Seller co-funded vouchers | Variable, no rate card | The most common source of unexplained margin loss |
| Returns | See shipping section | Commission is reversed on refunds, pro rata on partials |
On payment processing: TikTok’s official UK fee list does not include one, and the 9% is stated to be all-in. A minority of UK practitioners report a 20–30p per-order processing deduction appearing in settlements. Check Finance → Settlement Breakdown in your own account rather than trusting any published figure, including the ones circulating at “1.4% + £0.20”, which are uncited.
Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT)
FBT has been live in the UK since August 2023 and is self-serve to join. Published rates:
| Line | Fee |
|---|---|
| Storage, days 1–30 | £0.24 per m³ per day |
| Storage, day 31 onward | £0.61 per m³ per day |
| Operations XS (put-away, pick, pack, materials) | £0.78 per item |
| Operations S | £1.08 per item |
| Shipping, standard FBT (orders ≥ £22) | £1.99 per parcel |
| FBT Value+ (free shipping regardless of order value) | £1.79 per parcel |
Note the storage rate more than doubles after 30 days. Aged stock in an FBT warehouse is expensive stock.
Worked example: what you keep on a £30 sale
- Customer pays: £30.00
- TikTok commission, 9% incl. VAT: −£2.70
- Shipped by Seller fee: −£0.50
- Postage (Royal Mail Tracked 48, 500g): −£2.20
- Packaging: −£0.30
- Settled to your bank: £24.30. Effective TikTok take-rate: 10.7%.
- Customer pays: £30.00
- VAT to HMRC (one sixth): −£5.00
- TikTok commission, 9% of the £30 gross: −£2.70
- Affiliate commission, 15% of the £30 gross: −£4.50
- Shipped by Seller fee: −£0.50
- Postage and packaging: −£2.50
- £14.80 before cost of goods. Total platform take: £7.70, or 25.7% of gross.
Scenario B is the one that catches people. Note that both commission and affiliate commission are calculated on the £30 the customer paid, not on the £25 you actually earned after VAT. Add ads at the commonly recommended 8–15% of revenue and a £30 sale with an affiliate is close to break-even before you have paid for the product.
Can you sell second-hand on TikTok Shop?
This is the question almost nobody answers, and the answer is more restrictive than sellers expect.
Yes, but it is invite-only and confined to a fixed list of named categories. There is no general right to list used goods. TikTok Shop UK’s Restricted Products Policy states plainly: “All second-hand products can only be sold if a seller has been onboarded via a limited, ‘invite-only’ process.”
| Category | Key requirements |
|---|---|
| Second-hand fashion | Maximum £500 per listing. Title must include “second-hand”, “pre-owned” or “pre-loved”. Minimum 2 images — at least one of the garment and at least one showing the scratches, stretch marks or imperfections. Underwear, socks and swimwear must be new. |
| Pre-owned electricals (phones, tablets, smartwatches, laptops only) | UK business registration and Companies House number; Google or Trustpilot reviews; sales records from other platforms; UKCA/CE marking plus Declaration of Conformity; minimum 1-year warranty; data securely erased; UK 3-pin plugs. Phones need a passed refurbishment certificate; laptops additionally need ≥80% battery health. Condition limited to Good, Very Good or Excellent. |
| Graded trading cards | Maximum £1,000 per listing. Approved graders only: PSA, BGS, CGC, Ace Grading, Get Graded, Pokegrade, MGC, TAG. |
| Ungraded trading cards | Title keyword, minimum 2 images, condition described. Repacks must say “Repacked” in the title. |
| Luxury watches | Title keyword (also accepts “Refurbished”), minimum 2 images, condition limited to Good, Very Good or Excellent. |
| Books | Title keyword, minimum 2 images (front and back cover), condition Like New / Very Good / Good / Fair. |
| Golf clubs | Minimum 3 images — face, back or sole showing branding, and grip. |
| Golf balls | Condition graded mint / minor imperfections / playable / practice. |
| Graded comic books | BGS, CGC or CBCS grading shown in images, plus all book rules. |
| Refurbished household appliances | Business registration, reviews, product liability insurance, refurbishment process overview, PAT testing compliance declaration, Declaration of Conformity, UKCA/CE, minimum 1-year warranty. |
How to apply: Seller Centre → My Account → Account Settings → Qualification Center. You will need a description of your business background and trading history, the categories you want, images of your warehouse and stock, and links to your existing stores showing reviews and sales performance.
Note what that requires: TikTok wants evidence you already sell successfully somewhere else. A seller with an established Vinted wardrobe, Depop shop or eBay feedback history has something to show. A first-time reseller does not. If TikTok Shop is on your roadmap, building that track record elsewhere first is not a detour — it is the application.
One more thing worth knowing: TikTok’s own policy is internally inconsistent, labelling only some of these categories invite-only in the sub-sections while the governing preamble applies it to all second-hand products. Treat the preamble as binding and apply through the Qualification Center regardless of category.
Setting up your seller account
Sole traders and individuals can sell. There are five seller types — sole trader/individual, privately owned business, publicly listed business, state-owned business and charity — and a sole trader needs no Companies House number. There is no follower minimum to open a seller account; the 1,000-follower rule people cite is the threshold for creator affiliates, not sellers.
What you need
| Seller type | Documents |
|---|---|
| Sole trader | UK passport or driving licence (front and back, in colour), a selfie holding the ID, full legal name and date of birth, UK residential address with proof, aged 18+ |
| Company | Companies House number, legal company name and registration date, registered address with proof, director photo ID, and beneficial ownership details for anyone holding 25% or more |
| Both | Proof of address dated within the last 3 months; UK bank account with an unredacted first page of a statement. Company accounts must be business accounts in the registered entity’s name. |
UK inventory is mandatory. You must hold a UK address, a UK bank account, and store your stock domestically and ship from within the UK. Cross-border selling into TikTok Shop UK is not permitted, and no PO boxes.
Why applications get rejected
TikTok publishes the reasons: missing or invalid documents, unverifiable information, bank details not matching identity documents, name mismatches across documents, illegible ID, inventory not stored domestically, an applicant under investigation, or a shop name breaching content policy. Shop names are capped at 40 characters and cannot contain brand names without permission, “TikTok”, competitor names, contact information, or be purely numeric or generic.
TikTok publishes no verification timeline. Once approved you enter a mandatory Shop Probation Period.
Creating listings that sell
The technical constraints
| Field | Limit |
|---|---|
| Images | Maximum 9, square, minimum 800×800px. Colour only, no pixelation, no text or watermarks other than product branding. Main image should be a front view on a white background with no borders. TikTok recommends 5+. |
| Video | Optional. Maximum 1 per listing, 5 MB. |
| Title | Minimum 25 characters; UK guidance suggests 80 as a practical maximum. |
| Description | Minimum 30 words; under 500 characters recommended. Treat as plain text — HTML support is not documented. |
| Variants | Up to 300, via a maximum of 3 sales attributes. |
Titles must exclude marketing language, URLs, seller names, references to TikTok or other marketplaces, and special characters. That last point matters for crosslisters: a title written for eBay that mentions another platform will be rejected here.
There is an SEO layer, and most sellers ignore it
TikTok states directly that a listing’s title and description determine whether it appears in TikTok Shop search results. Its recommended title formula is brand + product + application + type + main features, including variants, without stuffing. Three tools sit in Seller Centre for this: Analytics → Search → Keyword Rankings, Products → Product Opportunities, and Manage Products → Improve Listing Quality → Optimize.
TikTok claims 82% of users discover new brands through TikTok Shop, so the search surface is not a rounding error.
What gets a listing rejected
False or exaggerated claims, misleading reference prices, mixing categories in one listing to deceive, fake before-and-after images, unsubstantiated health claims, false certifications, click-bait, duplicate listings, and external links, QR codes or phone numbers. Promoting “dupes”, “fakes”, “knock-offs” or “inspired by” branded products is banned outright, as is commercial use of brands and logos without permission.
Twenty categories are prohibited entirely, including bladed products (down to razor blades, scissors and sharp gardening tools), gift cards and crypto, weapons and replicas including BB and airsoft, hazardous items including fireworks and recalled products, single-use plastics, and security or privacy devices such as lock picks and signal jammers.
The three ways selling actually happens
- Shoppable short video. Record or upload, then Add Link → Product on the posting screen. Multiple products can be linked per video, and — the underused part — product links can be added to already-published videos, converting your back catalogue retroactively. Videos carrying product links go through an additional review.
- LIVE shopping. The highest-effort, highest-yield route, and unusually strong in the UK.
- Product Showcase and the Shop Tab. Your storefront appears on your profile once your TikTok account is linked to Seller Centre; that link is also what unlocks product tagging and live selling.
TikTok publishes no UK breakdown of which route drives what. The nearest proxy is the US 2025 split of roughly 50% video, 36% shop tab and 14% live — with live rising from 10% the year before. Useful context: on Douyin in China, live accounts for 63%, so Western live commerce remains comparatively small despite the growth.
How the algorithm distributes your products
Organic reach and paid promotion are a single optimisable surface here, which is unusual. GMV Max, launched in the UK on 23 January 2025, optimises both organic delivery and paid traffic together for incremental GMV, across feed, search, the Shop Tab and Pangle. US sellers saw an average 30% GMV increase.
Since July 2025 GMV Max is the only supported campaign type for TikTok Shop Ads. Video Shopping Ads, Product Shopping Ads and LIVE Shopping Ads can no longer be created, edited or duplicated with Shop as the destination.
Two things to watch. First, activating Product GMV Max pauses overlapping campaigns across all your ad accounts, and they do not restart automatically when the GMV Max campaign ends. Second, a UK and EU specific rule: organic videos used inside GMV Max carry mandatory commercial-content labels, where elsewhere they are optional.
On ranking, TikTok publishes little. Agency analysis — not official — points to sales velocity on rolling 7- and 30-day windows weighted above absolute volume, seller performance score, content engagement, pricing within roughly 10–15% of the category median, and listing completeness. Treat that as informed inference.
The creator affiliate programme, properly explained
This is the most under-documented part of TikTok Shop and the part with the largest upside. Almost no published guide distinguishes the two collaboration types or states their limits, so here they are.
Open Collaboration
Your products sit in a marketplace any creator can browse and promote without an invitation. You set commission per product or shop-wide, and can optionally gate applications behind approval. An auto-optimised setting will derive a commission rate from your top-performing 30% of products, and you can edit any rate at any time.
This is the low-effort route and the one TikTok recommends starting with. You are essentially posting a bounty and waiting.
Target Collaboration
You invite named creators to promote specific products for a defined period, and they must accept. The mechanics carry real limits worth planning around:
| Constraint | Limit |
|---|---|
| Creators per invitation | 50 |
| Products per invitation | 100 |
| Invitations per 24 hours | 200 |
| Saved creators | 1,000 |
| Live flash sales | Require single-creator invitations |
Target commission always supersedes open commission. If a creator holds a target deal at 25% and your open rate is 12%, they are paid 25%. Both programmes can run simultaneously.
Commission rates in practice
TikTok permits anything from 1% to 80% of GMV per order and suggests a rate, but you decide. Reported working ranges by category:
| Category | Typical commission |
|---|---|
| Beauty & Personal Care | 15–30% |
| Fashion | 10–25% |
| Electronics & Home | 10–15% |
| Practical starting band | 8–12%, tiering to 18–20%+ for top creators |
These are practitioner figures rather than TikTok’s own published data, so treat them as a starting point to test from. Remember the compounding: an 18% creator rate plus 9% commission is 27% of gross before you have paid for postage or the product.
Samples
Both collaboration types support free samples, with either manual review or auto-approval. There is also a route TikTok mentions but few sellers use: rather than shipping a physical sample, refund the creator’s first purchase. That keeps the transaction inside the platform and gives the creator genuine unboxing footage. If you fulfil through FBT, affiliate sample shipping dropped from £3.99 to £1.99 in February 2026.
Finding creators
Seller Centre’s Find Creators tool filters by creators who have promoted similar products, creators whose followers have bought or viewed similar items, and creators whose audience matches your customer demographics. That second filter is the useful one and the least used — it targets proven purchase intent rather than raw follower count.
Note that the old Shop Plan has been discontinued; products were auto-migrated to Open Collaboration at their Shop Plan rate and replaced with a New Products Auto-Mode. If you set rates before that migration, check what they actually are now.
Shipping, returns and performance scores
Dispatch obligations are strict
| Obligation | Deadline |
|---|---|
| Pack and create the label | 2 working days |
| Hand to the carrier | 7 working days, or the order auto-cancels |
| Delivered | 4 working days from order receipt |
| Respond to a return request | 2 working days |
| Process a cancellation | 1 working day |
| Confirm receipt of a return | 2 calendar days after tracking shows delivery, or an auto-refund fires |
On-Time Delivery Rate is calculated at account level over the preceding 7 days and updated every Monday. A low OTDR can trigger order volume limits or a funds freeze. Only approved carriers register tracking correctly — Royal Mail Tracked 24 and 48 (not other Royal Mail services), Evri, DPD, Yodel, Amazon Logistics, Parcelforce, UK Mail, DHL UK, Panther and DX. Verify the current list inside Seller Centre; TikTok’s public carrier page has been unreliable.
Returns — who pays what
| Situation | Who pays |
|---|---|
| Change of mind, within 14 days | Seller refunds the customer’s outbound shipping; return shipping is shared between TikTok and the seller |
| Change of mind, day 15–30 | Buyer pays return shipping; no outbound refund owed |
| Faulty, defective or not as described | Seller bears all return shipping plus a full refund or free replacement |
| Carrier damage | Typically the seller’s cost |
TikTok’s 30-calendar-day change-of-mind window is more generous than the statutory 14-day cooling-off period. Non-returnable items include personalised goods, opened sealed products such as cosmetics and apparel, perishables, media with broken seals, and trading cards.
Shop Performance Score
SPS runs 0–5 and needs at least 30 delivered orders in 60 days to generate a score; strong sellers sit above 4. Six metrics feed it: negative review rate, seller-fault return and refund rate, seller-fault cancellation rate, on-time delivery rate, instant-message dissatisfaction rate, and after-sales handling time with a 48-hour target. Thresholds are relative to your category rather than absolute.
Separately, Seller-Fault Cancellation Rate must stay at or below 2.5% over any 7 calendar days. Out-of-stock-after-order counts; buyer change-of-mind does not. New shops under 180 days old with 30 or fewer orders get some protection.
A high SPS unlocks affiliate marketing access, campaign participation, auctions and enhanced return-shipping rebates. A low one leads through warnings, listing restrictions, order volume limits, balance withheld for up to 90 calendar days, suspension and finally termination. TikTok does not publish the point values or thresholds — which is precisely why seller forums are full of unexplained suspensions.
The UK compliance layer nobody mentions
Selling through creators in the UK pulls in obligations that sit outside TikTok’s own policies, and enforcement here comes from regulators rather than from Seller Centre.
Advertising disclosure
Creator content promoting your products is advertising under UK rules, and must be identifiable as such. TikTok bakes part of this in: organic videos used inside GMV Max carry mandatory commercial-content labels in the UK and EU, where they are optional elsewhere. But a creator posting an affiliate video outside a GMV Max campaign is responsible for their own disclosure, and brands have been named in rulings where disclosure was absent. Make disclosure an explicit term of any target collaboration rather than an assumption.
Consumer contract rights
TikTok’s returns policy requires compliance with “applicable consumer law” without naming the legislation. In the UK that is principally the Consumer Contracts Regulations, which give a 14-day cooling-off period from delivery for distance sales, plus the Consumer Rights Act, which entitles buyers to goods that are of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. TikTok’s 30-day change-of-mind window is more generous than the statutory floor, so meeting TikTok’s policy generally satisfies the law — but the statutory rights exist independently and a buyer can assert them even if a platform window has closed.
Product safety and labelling
The requirements TikTok imposes on refurbished electricals and appliances — UKCA or CE marking, Declaration of Conformity, PAT testing declarations, product liability insurance — are not TikTok inventions. They are how UK product-safety law applies to anyone placing goods on the market. Selling a rewired lamp or a refurbished kettle makes you responsible for its safety, whichever platform it sells on.
The cosmetics angle matters given the category mix here: UK cosmetic products need a responsible person, a safety report and Submit Cosmetic Product Notification registration. Reselling a sealed branded product is generally fine; decanting, relabelling or blending is a different legal category entirely.
What this means practically
TikTok Shop enforces its own rules through violation points and performance scores. UK regulators enforce a separate, overlapping set with different consequences. Clearing Seller Centre’s checks is not the same as being compliant, and the second-hand category requirements are best read as a signal of where the legal risk actually sits rather than as arbitrary platform bureaucracy.
Getting paid
TikTok initiates payout 3–15 days after the order delivery date, with the exact figure set by your shipping performance. New sellers typically sit at the 15-day end and improve toward 3 days. The minimum payout is £1, and negative settlements are deducted from subsequent payouts. Funds take a further 1–3 business days to land.
Note that the dedicated page currently ranking for this query says “2–7 days after delivery”, which is wrong against TikTok’s own documentation.
Payments are held while a package is in transit, while a refund or return is open, or pending settlement. Common causes of longer holds: mismatched bank details, unconfirmed delivery tracking, compliance reviews, open disputes, and policy violations. Changing your bank details triggers re-verification and delay.
UK tax obligations
General guidance, not tax advice. Consult an accountant about your own position.
VAT
The registration threshold is £90,000 of taxable turnover over any rolling 12 months — it rose from £85,000 in April 2024, and guides still printing £85,000 are stale.
TikTok does not collect or remit VAT for UK-established sellers. You remain responsible for accounting for VAT on the gross, VAT-inclusive sale price. Marketplace VAT liability applies to overseas sellers and imported consignments under £135, but since TikTok Shop UK requires UK-domiciled sellers holding UK stock, that rarely applies.
The bookkeeping error that costs the most
TikTok’s settlement report shows the net amount paid to you after commission, affiliate fees and refunds. HMRC requires VAT accounted on the gross price the customer paid. Worked: a customer pays £100, of which £16.67 is VAT; 9% commission and a 10% affiliate fee are both charged on the £100 gross, leaving an £81 payout. Recording £81 as turnover understates it by £19 on every single order. VAT on TikTok’s own fees is recoverable if you are registered.
Income tax and reporting
- Trading allowance: £1,000 per tax year. Above it you must tell HMRC and register for Self Assessment.
- When it becomes trading: you are trading if you sell items you bought intending to sell at a profit, or items you made. Regular reselling with profit intent qualifies.
- Selling your own possessions is generally not income tax. Capital Gains Tax applies where a single item — or a set — sells for more than £6,000.
- DAC7 platform reporting: TikTok reports seller details and income to HMRC annually, filed by 31 January. You are not reported if you make fewer than 30 sales of goods a year or receive less than roughly £1,700. You must be given a copy, broken into calendar quarters.
What sells best on TikTok Shop UK
Beauty and Personal Care dominates. TikTok Shop is the UK’s fourth-largest beauty retailer on NielsenIQ data, grew 60% year on year in 2025, and sells one beauty product every second in the UK. Within that, K-Beauty searches rose 125% and K-Beauty basket values run 35% above the skincare average.
The official UK category structure is Fashion, Beauty, FMCG, Home & Living and Electronics. UK unit-volume proof points give a sense of the ceiling: one lip stain sold 413,000+ units, one cleaning brand took 500,000+ orders in its first year, and a “Dubai chocolate” product moved 100,000+ units.
On price, no UK average order value is published. The most credible available guidance puts the £10–£40 band at the highest conversion rates, and there is a mechanical reason to bundle just above £20: co-funded free shipping applies to orders under that threshold, and FBT’s shipping band sits at £22.
Seasonality is extreme and moving earlier
Black Friday 2025 was the highest-grossing day in TikTok Shop UK history at 27 items sold per second, with the full Black Friday period up 50% year on year, live sales up 68% and unique shoppers up 28%. The striking detail: “Fake Friday” — the week before Black Friday — matched the previous all-time record. The peak is shifting earlier, and new sellers joining from October onward were up 200%.
Pro tips and common mistakes
- Add product links to your existing video back catalogue. Published videos can be made shoppable retroactively. This is the single cheapest win available and almost nobody does it.
- Price with the commission base in mind. Charging separate postage means paying 9% on the postage. Building shipping into the price and offering it free of charge is usually cheaper and converts better.
- Check whether Smart Promotions is enabled. It is reported to be on by default on many accounts and can consume a meaningful share of store GMV. Find it before it finds you.
- Build your seller history elsewhere first if you want second-hand approval. The Qualification Center asks for links to existing stores with reviews and sales data.
- Do not appeal metric violations. Experienced operators appeal only compliance removals where they hold documentation, and suspensions where they can submit evidence.
- Watch the 7-working-day carrier handover. Miss it and the order auto-cancels, which counts against your seller-fault cancellation rate.
- Never mention another marketplace in a title. Titles referencing other platforms are rejected — a real hazard when reusing eBay or Depop copy.
The mistakes that cost the most
- Recording the settlement figure as turnover — it understates your VAT liability on every order.
- Assuming used goods can simply be listed. They cannot; apply through the Qualification Center first.
- Underestimating total cost of selling. Budget 30–45% of revenue, not 9%.
- Leaving stock in FBT past 30 days, where the storage rate more than doubles.
- Treating live shopping as a tactic rather than a schedule. The sellers winning at it stream daily.
Cross-listing TikTok Shop with FLUF Connect
TikTok Shop is a discovery channel with a hard geographic boundary — UK sellers, UK stock, UK buyers. It is a poor sole channel and a strong additional one. Running it alongside marketplaces where buyers arrive with intent gives you both halves of the demand picture.
How it works
- Connect TikTok Shop via OAuth. It is a server-side channel, so no browser extension is needed and nothing has to stay open.
- Import or build your catalogue once.
- Choose which channels each item goes to, and publish.
- When something sells on another channel, FLUF Connect drops the TikTok Shop stock automatically.
What FLUF Connect supports on TikTok Shop — and what it doesn’t yet
| Feature | TikTok Shop | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Crosslisting (create) | Supported | Verified against a real listing on a live shop |
| Price and stock updates | Supported | Verified end to end |
| Delisting | Supported | Verified end to end |
| Sold elsewhere → TikTok stock reduced | Supported | This direction works today |
| Sold on TikTok → delisted elsewhere | Not yet | Sale detection on TikTok Shop is not implemented, so a TikTok sale will not stock out the item on your other channels |
| Auto-relisting | Not supported | TikTok Shop listings do not expire |
| Offer management | Not supported | TikTok Shop has no offer system |
| Bulk operations | Supported | Bulk publish and bulk price changes |
We would rather state that gap than imply a sync that does not exist. Until TikTok sale detection lands, treat TikTok Shop as a channel you reconcile manually when it sells — and lean on channels with proven sale detection to carry your automated inventory sync.
One geographic note: FLUF Connect’s TikTok Shop integration is approved for the United Kingdom only. TikTok Shop itself runs around twenty seller markets, but our Partner Center application covers the UK, so a seller outside the UK cannot complete the connection today.
What it costs
| Plan | Price | Products | Includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Growth | £19/month | 1,000 | All automation features |
| Seller | £99/month | 5,000 | All automation features |
| Super Seller | £299/month | Unlimited | Priority sync |
There is no free plan. Automation — crosslisting, relisting, offers, bulk operations and inventory sync — is included in every plan rather than sold as an add-on. See the pricing page, our comparison against Vendoo, and the primer on selling on multiple platforms.

Figures verified against primary sources in August 2026. TikTok does not publish a UK GMV total, a UK average order value, product-approval timelines, category taxonomy depth, description character maximums, verification turnaround, or the violation-point values that trigger suspension — those are deliberately absent above rather than estimated. Tax information is general guidance, not advice.

Frequently Asked Questions
9%, inclusive of VAT, across all categories. Electronics, a selected set of Beauty & Personal Care categories, new sellers and sellers completing Seller Missions can qualify for a reduced rate, commonly 5%. The UK pays the highest commission of any Western TikTok Shop market — Germany, Spain, France, Italy and Ireland only moved from 5% to 9% in January 2026, and the US is still 6%. Any guide quoting 1.8% for your first 90 days is around two years out of date.
On what the customer paid, including VAT — and customer-paid shipping sits inside the commission base too. So charging £3.95 postage means paying 9% on that £3.95 as well. This is the most common margin surprise on the platform. Building shipping into the item price usually costs less and converts better than charging it separately.
Only via an invite-only process — there is no general right to list used goods. TikTok's Restricted Products Policy states that all second-hand products require onboarding through a limited invite-only process. Pre-owned fashion is capped at £500 per listing, the title must contain "second-hand", "pre-owned" or "pre-loved", and you need at least two images with one showing the imperfections. Apply through Seller Centre → My Account → Account Settings → Qualification Center.
A description of your business background and trading history, the categories you want, images of your warehouse and stock, and links to your existing e-commerce stores showing reviews and sales performance data. That last requirement matters: TikTok wants proof you already sell successfully elsewhere. Building a track record on Vinted, Depop or eBay first is effectively part of the application rather than a detour from it.
Yes. The main one is a £0.50 Shipped by Seller fee per delivered order including VAT, introduced on 15 July 2025 — Fulfilled by TikTok orders are exempt. Beyond that: affiliate commission you set between 1% and 80%, which stacks on top of the 9% and is also charged on the gross; your own postage; and seller co-funded vouchers, which have no published rate card and are the most common source of unexplained margin loss. Budget 30–45% of revenue as total cost of selling.
TikTok initiates payout 3–15 days after the order delivery date, with the exact figure determined by your shipping performance. New sellers typically sit at the 15-day end and improve toward 3 days as performance improves. The minimum payout is £1, and funds take a further 1–3 business days to land. Note that the page currently ranking highest for this question says 2–7 days, which is wrong against TikTok's own documentation.
No. You need a UK address with proof, a UK bank account, and your stock must be stored domestically and shipped from within the UK. Cross-border selling into TikTok Shop UK is not permitted and PO boxes are not accepted. Sole traders can sell without a Companies House number, and there is no follower minimum for a seller account — the 1,000-follower rule applies to creator affiliates, not sellers.
It depends on when and why. Change of mind within 14 days: you refund the customer's outbound shipping and return shipping is shared between TikTok and you. Change of mind from day 15 to 30: the buyer pays and you owe no outbound refund. Faulty, defective or not as described: you bear all return shipping plus a full refund or free replacement. TikTok's 30-day change-of-mind window is more generous than the statutory 14-day cooling-off period.
Not for UK-established sellers. You remain responsible for accounting for VAT on the gross, VAT-inclusive price the customer paid. The costliest bookkeeping error on this platform is recording the settlement figure as turnover: TikTok settles the net amount after commission and affiliate fees, but HMRC wants VAT on the gross. On a £100 order settling at £81, recording £81 understates turnover by £19 every time. VAT on TikTok's own fees is recoverable if you are registered.
Not yet. Sale detection on TikTok Shop is not implemented, so a sale there will not automatically stock out the item on your other channels — treat TikTok Shop as a channel you reconcile by hand when it sells. The reverse direction does work: when something sells elsewhere, FLUF Connect reduces the TikTok Shop stock automatically. Creating listings, updating price and stock, and delisting are all supported and verified against real listings.
