Crosslist from Gumtree Australia to Gettit — take local-pickup ads to Australia’s newest marketplace
Keep the Gumtree Australia ads that bring buyers to your door, and put the same furniture, bikes, tools and collectables in front of Gettit's protected-pickup and postage buyers. What transfers, what each side charges, and the one habit this pairing depends on.
- Gettit is weeks old, not years. Its fee schedule and terms are dated 1 August 2026, and FLUF Connect’s integration went live on 4 September 2026. Treat both as new, and treat the audience as small but growing.
- Your Gumtree Australia ads are the raw material. FLUF Connect reads the ads in your account — title, cover photo, asking price, category — and builds a catalogue you can push to Gettit without retyping anything.
- Local pickup costs nothing on either side. Gumtree Australia ads in most categories are free, and Gettit charges no fee of any kind on a local handover. The only Gettit fee is a buyer-paid protection fee on posted and Secured Pickup orders.
- Posting opens the whole country. A Gettit listing with shipping switched on uses a prepaid Australia Post label; a Parcel Post satchel runs from $10.55 to $24.95 since 1 July 2026, and you have three business days to lodge it.
- Confirm Gettit location and parcel size. Check the item’s location and choose a suitable parcel size if offering postage.
- Sale detection is one-way on both channels. Neither Gumtree Australia nor Gettit gives FLUF Connect an order feed today. When you mark an item sold in FLUF, the other channel’s listing is ended. That is the discipline this pairing asks of you.
- Through FLUF Connect: one catalogue, 51 marketplaces, both of these driven from FLUF’s servers with no browser left open. 7 days for £1, then from £9/month, then plans from £9/month.

Why a Gumtree Australia seller would bother with a marketplace this new
If you sell furniture, bikes, tools or collectables on Gumtree Australia — the IKEA bookcase, the kids’ Trek, the mitre saw, the Holden badge collection, the bassinet the baby outgrew — your buyers are the people within driving distance who happened to search that week, from Fremantle to the Sunshine Coast. Gumtree Australia has run on that model since eBay launched the Australian site in April 2007, and it works: no fee on the sale, cash or bank transfer at the door, no parcel to pack.
The cost of that model is geography. There is no held payment, no label and no way to sell the same lamp to someone in Perth when you are in Newcastle.
Gettit is built around exactly those gaps. It is Australian, general-goods rather than fashion-only, and it offers every listing three ways to change hands: a free local handover, a Secured Pickup where the buyer’s money is held until they hand you a code, and posting with a prepaid Australia Post label and payment released on delivery. The trade-off is scale: at the start of September 2026 the whole marketplace held a few thousand active listings. You are not adding a second Gumtree Australia; you are getting in early on something that may become one, while keeping the ads that already work.
What Gettit actually is, from its own documents
Gettit is a peer-to-peer marketplace for preloved goods, operated by Gettit Pty Ltd, ABN 55 699 431 886, according to its Terms of Service. Both the terms and the Fees Schedule are version 2026-08-01, effective 1 August 2026. There is a web app at gettit.com.au and iOS and Android apps, so it is not app-only, and payments and identity checks run through Stripe, named in the terms as the payment provider.
The homepage lists the categories it opened with: Baby & Kids, Prams & Car Seats, Nursery & Furniture, Electronics, Fashion, Bags & Accessories, Home & Garden, Sports & Leisure, Vehicles & Parts, E-Bikes & E-Scooters, Beauty & Health, Books, Music & Games, Collectables, Tools & DIY, Craft & Hobbies, Pets & Supplies and Antiques. The category tree FLUF Connect reads from Gettit has 15 top-level branches and 164 nodes in all.
Three transaction modes exist, and the buyer picks one at checkout:
| Mode | How it works | Fee, per the Fees Schedule |
|---|---|---|
| Local handover | Arranged in person, paid however you both like, outside Gettit’s held-payment flow | “Free. No fee of any kind, and no commission.” |
| Secured Pickup | Buyer pays into Gettit, collects in person, and releases the money by giving you a six-digit code | Buyer protection fee of 3.5% of the item price |
| Shipped | Prepaid Australia Post label, tracked, payment held until the delivery scan plus a buyer window | Buyer protection fee of 7.5% of the item price plus $1.50 |
The protection fee is charged to the buyer, not deducted from you, and there is no separate payment-processing fee: Gettit says Stripe’s cost is met out of the protection fee. A $9.95 return-handling fee applies only when a parcel comes back through buyer error.
The Timings Schedule is stricter than anything Gumtree Australia asks of you, because Gumtree Australia asks nothing. You have three business days from label issue to lodge a posted item with Australia Post; miss it and the order is cancelled, the buyer refunded, and the miss recorded on your profile. The buyer has 48 hours from the delivered scan to raise a problem, after which the payment releases to you.
Fees side by side, in Australian dollars
Gumtree Australia is owned by an ASX-listed company that bought it from Adevinta in August 2022 for US$60 million alongside CarsGuide and Autotrader; the buyer was The Market Herald, which has since renamed itself Gumtree Australia Markets. It is a wholly distinct company from the British Gumtree, with its own platform and its own login; FLUF Connect treats them as two distinct channels.
Its selling model is classifieds: you pay to be seen, not to sell. Per Gumtree Australia’s help centre, a listing fee applies to Cars, Vans & Utes, Caravans & Campervans, and every pets and animals ad, and you get one free ad at a time in Boats & Jetskis, Real Estate, some Jobs categories, Services for Hire and Parts & Accessories. Everything else — the furniture, bikes, tools and collectables this page is about — is free to post. Visibility is sold as paid features: Bump Up (single or recurring every 2, 3 or 7 days), Highlight, Price Drop, Urgent, Top Ad and Homepage Gallery, most for 7, 14 or 21 days. The help page does not publish the prices, which vary by category, so we have not quoted any.
| Gumtree Australia | Gettit | |
|---|---|---|
| Fee to list a sofa, bike or drill | None | None |
| Fee on a local cash sale | None | None |
| Fee on a protected pickup | Not offered | 3.5% of item price, paid by buyer |
| Fee on a posted sale | Not offered by the platform; you arrange it privately | 7.5% + $1.50, paid by buyer |
| Payment held for the buyer | No | Yes, via Stripe, released on delivery or code |
| Prepaid shipping label | No | Yes, Australia Post |
| Paid promotion | Bump Up, Top Ad, Urgent, Highlight, Price Drop, Homepage Gallery | Not described in the fee schedule we read |
| Dispatch deadline | None | 3 business days |
For the buyer ten minutes away, both platforms cost you nothing. For every buyer further away, only Gettit can complete the sale.
Which of your ads should make the trip
Not every Gumtree Australia ad belongs on Gettit, and the filter is chiefly about weight.
Satchel-sized items go first. Chisels, secateurs, multimeters, torque wrenches; Lego minifigures, Pokémon cards, vinyl LPs, Nintendo cartridges; lenses, binoculars, fountain pens, wristwatches; Blundstones, Akubras, sneakers, beanies; pedals, derailleurs, saddles, tyre levers, snorkels, headlamps. Gettit’s parcel-size field runs from an extra-small satchel to a box, with a weight limit of 50 kg; anything over 5 kg is forced into the box size, because that is the Australia Post satchel limit.
Big items can go, but as pickup-only listings. Wardrobes, bunk beds, treadmills, rowing machines, kayaks, trampolines, lawnmowers, fridges, cots, highchairs, prams, pianos, pool tables, a bike with the wheels on. Gettit requires each listing to offer posting or local pickup or both, so you switch shipping off and the item shows to buyers who will collect. You still gain Secured Pickup, which Gumtree Australia cannot give the nervous buyer of a $600 e-bike.
Anything with a serial number wants it entered. Gettit’s listing schema asks for an IMEI on phones, tablets and wearables and a serial on most electronics and tools. FLUF Connect passes them through from the product’s attributes if you have recorded them.
A worked example makes the sums concrete. Say a Ryobi cordless drill is on Gumtree Australia at $80, pickup from Geelong. Crosslisted to Gettit with posting enabled, a buyer in Hobart sees $80 plus a protection fee of $7.50 (7.5% of $80 plus $1.50) plus a medium Parcel Post satchel at $16.40, so $103.90 all in, tracked, with their money held until the drill arrives. You receive $80 minus nothing. A Geelong buyer who chooses Secured Pickup pays $82.80 and hands you a code in the car park; a Geelong buyer who chooses local handover pays $80 in cash, exactly as on Gumtree Australia.
Gettit also keeps a per-category attribute sheet that Gumtree Australia has no counterpart for: storage, RAM and screen size on laptops; battery health and network lock on phones; frame size on bicycles; year on collectables and vehicles; wattage, voltage and battery platform on power tools. These are optional, typed fields (text, select, number, year or boolean) and FLUF Connect fills them from matching product attributes where they exist, capped at 24 keys per listing. Buyers filter on them, so a Makita 18V skin with the voltage recorded outranks the identical drill listed as “drill”.
Leave off Gettit anything its terms prohibit — weapons and regulated knives, recalled or unsafe goods, and anything that breaches Australian law — and anything in a category Gettit does not have.
What FLUF Connect reads from a Gumtree Australia account
Connecting Gumtree Australia is a once-only capture through the FLUF Chrome extension while you are signed in at gumtree.com.au. After that the extension does nothing; every read and write runs from FLUF’s servers, so you do not need a browser open for the channel to work.
The account read pulls your active ads and, for each one, the title, the price as displayed, the category, and the photos. Two honest caveats about what Gumtree Australia’s own ad list gives us:
- The list carries no description. FLUF Connect fetches the full photo set for each ad separately, but the description text is not wired into the import today. Expect to write or paste the description into the FLUF product before it goes to Gettit, where it can run to 4,000 characters.
- “Negotiable” and “Free” ads arrive without a price. Gumtree Australia’s list shows a display string such as “$45.00”, “Negotiable” or “Free” rather than a number. FLUF Connect parses the dollar amounts and leaves the others blank, deliberately, because a blank is safer than a $0 that could be pushed to another marketplace. Gettit’s minimum price is $1.00, so a negotiable ad needs a real figure before it can be crosslisted.
Going the other way, when FLUF Connect writes to Gumtree Australia it needs at least one photo (the platform rejects a publish without one), caps at 10 photos per ad, and treats an edit as a full resubmission of the ad rather than a change to one field.
What transfers, field by field
| Field | From Gumtree Australia | To Gettit | What you do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Title | Read in full | 3 to 80 characters, trimmed by FLUF Connect | Nothing, unless you like very long titles |
| Description | Not in the ad list | Up to 4,000 characters | Add it on the FLUF product |
| Price | Dollar amounts only; Negotiable and Free arrive blank | Whole cents, minimum $1.00, AUD only | Set a figure for negotiable ads; use a per-channel price if Gettit should differ |
| Photos | All of them, in Gumtree’s order, at full resolution | 1 to 12, JPEG, PNG, WebP or HEIC, 10 MB each | Nothing |
| Category | Gumtree Australia category id | Gettit category (164-node tree), mapped by FLUF Connect | Check the suggestion on the first few items |
| Condition | Gumtree’s condition value | One of new, unworn, very good, good, fair | Nothing; see mapping below |
| Brand, colour | Where present as attributes | Brand up to 60 characters, colour up to 40 | Optional |
| Location | Suburb of the ad | Latitude and longitude, plus suburb and postcode | See the next section |
| Delivery options | None on the ad | Shipping on or off, local pickup on or off, Secured Pickup on or off | Set your Gettit defaults once |
| Parcel size and weight | Not on the ad | Required whenever shipping is on | Set a default; add weight per item where it matters |
| Serial or IMEI | Not on the ad | Wanted on phones, wearables, most electronics and tools | Record it on the product |
| Quantity | One ad, one item | One listing, one item; Gettit has no stock count | Nothing |
Condition merits a note because Gettit’s scale is unusual. It has five values, and “unworn” sits between new and very good. FLUF Connect’s mapping sends anything tagged or described as new to new; “unworn” or “never worn” to unworn; “excellent” or “very good” to very good; “fair”, “poor” or “well used” to fair; and the rest to good.
Location, parcel size and the draft trap
Three things stop a Gettit listing from going live, and none of them is about the item.
Location. Every Gettit listing must carry coordinates, and Gettit does not provide a way to turn a postcode into them. FLUF Connect resolves your location in a fixed order: from a listing you have already created on Gettit directly, then from the Australian address on your FLUF Connect Settings, and if it only has a coarse IP-based guess it uses that and tells you so in the log. With no Australian address anywhere, the crosslist stops and says why; the quickest fix on a new Gettit account is to list one item by hand.
Parcel size. If shipping is on, Gettit requires a parcel size from its satchel-to-box scale. FLUF Connect reads your Gettit selling defaults for this.
Payouts and return address. This is the one that catches people. Gettit accepts a new listing but holds it as a draft — invisible to buyers — while the seller’s account is incomplete: Stripe payouts not set up, or no return address for posted items. FLUF Connect checks payout status at connect and warns you, and a create that returns a draft is logged as a draft, not as live. The fix is at gettit.com.au: finish Stripe onboarding and add a return address, or turn posting off and pickup on.
Postage: the numbers for an interstate sale
Gettit posted orders go with an Australia Post label issued through the platform, and the buyer pays postage at checkout. It is the buyer’s total, not your asking price, that they compare with the Gumtree Australia ad down the road, so the label cost matters.
From 1 July 2026, Australia Post raised Parcel Post prices by an average of 4.95%. The prepaid satchels, which are priced by size rather than weight up to 5 kg and cost the same to any Australian address, are:
| Satchel | Parcel Post | Express Post | Typical Gumtree-style item |
|---|---|---|---|
| Extra small | $10.55 | $13.55 | Watch, coins, phone |
| Small | $12.05 | $15.55 | T-shirt, hand tool, novel |
| Medium | $16.40 | $20.40 | Jacket, boots, cordless drill |
| Large | $20.70 | $25.20 | Small appliance, bike helmet |
| Extra large | $24.95 | $33.45 | Puffer jacket, board game bundle |
Gettit’s three-business-day clock runs to lodgement, not delivery, so Parcel Post’s leisurely interstate transit is not a risk to you. Sendle publishes volume-tiered rates we could not fetch to quote; it is relevant only to Gumtree Australia buyers who ask for an item posted privately, since a Gettit order uses Gettit’s own label.
What happens when something sells
Gumtree Australia and Gettit support marking items sold but do not currently support order sync. Mark sales sold yourself and check the other listings.
| Event | What FLUF Connect does |
|---|---|
| You mark the item sold in FLUF Connect | Ends the Gettit listing and marks the Gumtree Australia ad sold with Gumtree’s own “sold elsewhere” reason |
| It sells on any other connected marketplace with order sync, such as eBay | Same as above: Gettit ended, Gumtree Australia marked sold, automatically |
| It sells on Gettit | Not detected today. You mark it sold in FLUF Connect and the Gumtree Australia ad is marked sold |
| Buyer collects from a Gumtree Australia ad | Not detected. You mark it sold in FLUF Connect and the Gettit listing is ended |
| You change the price in FLUF Connect | Rewritten on both channels; on Gumtree Australia this resends the whole ad |
| You edit title or description | Pushed to both; Gettit’s title is trimmed to 80 characters |
| You delist on Gettit | FLUF Connect sets the listing to removed rather than deleting it, so it can be relisted |
For a local-pickup seller this is a small burden: a Gumtree Australia sale ends with you handing the item over, and marking it sold in FLUF Connect at that moment ends the Gettit listing. The risk case is a Gettit posted order you do not spot while the Gumtree Australia ad stays up, so mark it sold when Gettit’s order notification arrives, before you print the label.
Setting it up, step by step
- Connect Gumtree Australia. Install the FLUF Chrome extension, sign in at gumtree.com.au, and connect the channel from FLUF Connect.
- Let the read finish. FLUF Connect pulls your active ads into the catalogue. Check the prices: any ad that was Negotiable or Free needs a figure.
- Add descriptions to the items you intend to crosslist. The Gumtree Australia list does not supply them.
- Finish your Gettit account. At gettit.com.au, complete Stripe payout onboarding and add a return address if you will post. Set your selling defaults: parcel size, shipping on or off, pickup on or off. List one item by hand if the account is new, so a location exists.
- Connect Gettit. Enter your email and password in FLUF Connect and complete the two-factor prompt if enabled. Check payout setup and any draft-status warnings before publishing.
- Crosslist five items first and read the listings log. A location or payout message here is cheaper than the same message two hundred times.
- Crosslist the rest. Filter the catalogue to the items that suit Gettit, select them, and send.
- When something sells, mark it sold in FLUF Connect. That single action keeps both channels honest.
The ATO, private sales and the reporting regime
The Sharing Economy Reporting Regime does not cover selling goods. The SERR obliges electronic distribution platforms to report sellers’ transactions to the ATO: ride-sourcing and short-term accommodation from 1 July 2023, and other platform services such as asset hire, food delivery and task-based work from 1 July 2024. Transactions where only title to goods changes hands are excluded, which is what a sale of a sofa on Gumtree Australia or Gettit is. Neither platform is reporting your sales under this regime.
Whether you owe tax depends on whether you are running a business. Selling your own household items is generally private. The ATO’s capital gains rules disregard gains on personal use assets — furniture, boats, electrical goods and household items kept mainly for personal use — that you acquired for $10,000 or less, and losses on them are always disregarded. Collectables such as artwork, antiques, coins and rare books have their own threshold: acquired for $500 or less, the gain is exempt. The business-or-hobby test turns on repetition, intent to profit and organisation. Buying tools at auctions to resell every weekend looks like a business; clearing the garage does not.
We are not tax advisers and this is general information, not advice.
What FLUF Connect costs
7 days for £1, then from £9/month, then plans from £9/month. The Starter plan carries unlimited listings and includes crosslisting, inventory sync, order sync and bulk operations across every connected marketplace, not only Gumtree Australia and Gettit. Relisting, offer management and smart pricing come with the plans above Starter. Full details on the pricing page.

What we could not verify: Gettit’s public opening date (a search snippet of its terms read “opens on 31 August 2026”, but the live page no longer carries that line), its founders or backers, and any user counts; the AUD prices of Gumtree Australia’s paid features, which its help centre does not publish; a current Sendle rate card. The ATO’s website refused our automated fetch, so the SERR and CGT statements were checked against the ATO’s own search summaries and PwC and RSM commentary rather than read directly from the linked pages. The Gettit integration completed its first live create, edit and delist on 4 September 2026 and is new; expect it to change.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. FLUF Connect reads the active ads in your Gumtree Australia account, turns each one into a product in its catalogue, and lets you push those products to Gettit. Title, photos, price and category come across; the description does not appear in Gumtree Australia's ad list, so you add it on the FLUF product before crosslisting.
Gettit's homepage says it is free to list, and its Fees Schedule (version 2026-08-01) charges nothing on a local handover. The only fees are buyer-paid protection fees on the two held-payment modes: 3.5% of the item price for Secured Pickup and 7.5% plus $1.50 for a posted order. Those are charged to the buyer, not deducted from you.
No. Gumtree Australia's help centre lists mandatory listing fees only for Cars, Vans & Utes, Caravans & Campervans and all pets and animals ads, with a “one free ad at a time” limit in a few other categories such as Boats and Real Estate. General goods are free to post; you pay only if you buy a promotion such as Bump Up or Top Ad.
Not yet. Gettit orders do not automatically update Gumtree Australia. Mark the item sold in FLUF to remove the other listing. Gumtree Australia pickup sales also need to be marked sold manually.
Gettit holds a new listing as a draft, invisible to buyers, while the seller's account is incomplete: usually Stripe payouts not yet set up or no return address for posted items. FLUF Connect warns you at connect time and reports the draft in the listings log. Finish payout onboarding and add a return address at gettit.com.au, or turn posting off and local pickup on.
Use the FLUF Chrome extension once to connect Gumtree Australia. Connect Gettit with your email and password. Neither needs the extension running day to day.
Gettit issues an Australia Post label and the buyer pays postage at checkout. Australia Post's Parcel Post prepaid satchels, priced by size and the same to any Australian address, run from $10.55 for extra small to $24.95 for extra large since 1 July 2026, with Express Post from $13.55 to $33.45. You have three business days from label issue to lodge the parcel.
Not under the Sharing Economy Reporting Regime, which covers platform services such as ride-sourcing, accommodation, asset hire and task work, and excludes transactions where only title to goods changes hands. Whether you owe tax is a separate question that turns on whether you are running a business; selling your own household items acquired for $10,000 or less is generally disregarded for capital gains. This is general information, not tax advice.
They are separate marketplaces run by separate companies with separate logins, and FLUF Connect treats them as two different channels. You can connect both to one FLUF Connect account, but each is its own connection, and a Gumtree Australia ad has no relationship to anything on the UK site. Crosslisting between all 50+ supported marketplaces is included on every plan.
