Amazon vs Temu for sellers with new stock: Key Takeaways

  • Who this is for: a UK or European business with new stock. Amazon UK accepts only New items in clothing, shoes, bags, sports, baby, pet and grocery, so used fashion is out.
  • Amazon fees: the Professional plan is £25 a month (excl. VAT) in the UK and €39 in Germany, plus a referral fee on each sale that depends on category and price.
  • Temu fees: registering a Temu seller account costs nothing. Check the commission for your category in Temu’s Seller Center before you price.
  • Delivery: on Amazon you post orders yourself or pay for Fulfilment by Amazon. On Temu you ship from local stock with Temu’s partner carriers or your own.
  • With FLUF Connect, a Temu sale removes the item from Amazon. When something sells on Amazon, you mark it sold in FLUF and FLUF sets the Temu stock to zero. 7 days for £1, then from £9/month, then plans from £9/month.

Is this comparison for you?

This guide is for a small business in the UK or Europe that holds new stock and wants to choose between Amazon and Temu, or sell on both. If most of your stock is second-hand clothing, shoes or bags, Amazon UK is closed to it, and a resale marketplace will suit you better.

Both marketplaces will take new, boxed products from a business that can ship them from local stock. The choice comes down to fixed costs, how you want to deliver orders, and how much price competition you can carry.

How selling works on each marketplace

On Amazon, you usually add your price, stock and condition to a product page that already exists. If no page exists for your product, you create one. When several sellers offer the same product, Amazon features one offer at the top of the page, and price, delivery speed, seller performance and stock all count towards which one it picks.

Temu’s Local Seller Programme lets a business sell from stock it already holds in its own country. Temu has accepted local European businesses since 2024, and says the programme is now open in more than 35 markets, with products across more than 700 categories.

Temu has opened the programme to cross-border sales in stages. According to Digital Commerce 360, since early 2026 sellers in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Romania, Belgium, Poland and France can also sell into the UK, Iceland and Switzerland. Inside the EU, eligible sellers can sell across EU markets and are not tied to one country.

FLUF Connect supports Temu’s UK and European local-seller marketplaces. It does not support Temu’s US marketplace.

Fees on Amazon and Temu

Amazon selling plans

Amazon UK has two plans. The UK pricing page lists the Individual plan at £0.75 per item sold and the Professional plan at £25 a month, both excluding VAT. The Professional plan adds bulk listing tools. In Germany, the Amazon.de pricing page lists Professional at €39 a month and Individual at €0.99 per item sold, both excluding VAT.

If you sell more than about 33 items a month in the UK, the flat £25 works out cheaper than paying £0.75 per item. On Amazon.de the break-even is about 40 items a month. Referral fees apply on both plans.

Amazon referral fees

Amazon also takes a referral fee on each sale. It is worked out on the total the buyer pays, including delivery and gift wrapping. These are the UK rates from the same Amazon UK pricing page:

Amazon UK category Referral fee
Clothing and accessories 5% up to £15, 10% from £15 to £20, 15% above £20
Consumer electronics 7%
Home products 8% up to £20, 15% above £20
Minimum fee per item £0.25

Temu seller fees

Temu’s seller site states that Temu charges no registration fee. Before you set prices or commit stock, open Seller Center and check the commission for each category you plan to list.

Worked example: a £30 cotton jumper on Amazon UK

  • Referral fee: the item is above £20 in clothing, so the rate is 15%. With £3.99 postage charged to the buyer, the buyer pays £33.99 and the fee is about £5.10.
  • What is left: about £28.89 before your own postage cost, VAT and your share of the £25 monthly plan.
  • On Temu: enter the same £30 price into Seller Center, read the commission for the category, and compare the two amounts side by side.

Delivery and fulfilment options

On Amazon you can post each order yourself, or send stock to Amazon and pay for Fulfilment by Amazon. With FBA, Amazon stores, packs and posts your orders. The UK pricing page says fulfilment fees depend on size, weight and category. Monthly storage for standard-size products is £0.62 per cubic foot from January to September and £1.51 from October to December, and a 1.5% fuel and logistics surcharge on fulfilment fees applies from 17 April 2026.

The October to December storage rate is more than double the rest of the year. If you send seasonal stock to FBA, plan how much sits in Amazon’s warehouses during the fourth quarter.

On Temu, local sellers ship from their own stock. Digital Commerce 360 reports that sellers in Europe can use one of more than 150 logistics providers that work with Temu, or arrange their own delivery.

Returns

Amazon’s returns page says Amazon.co.uk and many of its sellers accept returns for most items within 30 days of delivery. That is longer than the 14-day statutory cancellation period the same page describes. Price your margins with that return window in mind, especially for clothing and shoes.

For Temu, read the returns terms for local sellers in Seller Center before you list, and set aside margin for return postage on both marketplaces.

Account and registration requirements

Temu’s seller site accepts corporations, partnerships and sole proprietorships, and also lets you join as an individual seller. A business gives its business type, name, identification number and registered address. An individual gives their full legal name, citizenship, date and place of birth, home address, and a passport or driving licence.

For proof of address, Temu accepts bank statements or bank confirmation letters, statements from third-party payment services, and water, electricity or gas bills. The seller site says applications are normally reviewed within one business day.

VAT is a separate question from either marketplace. In the UK you must register for VAT if your VAT taxable turnover is more than £90,000. GOV.UK’s threshold guide adds that you can ask to cancel your registration if turnover falls below £88,000.

If you sell into the EU, the EU General Product Safety Regulation has applied since 13 December 2024. Each product needs a responsible economic operator in the EU, such as an EU manufacturer, importer, authorised representative or fulfilment service provider. A UK business selling into Germany or France on either marketplace needs one of these in place first.

Category and condition rules

Amazon UK’s condition guidelines list categories that must be New only: apparel, shoes and handbags, sports and outdoors, baby, pet and grocery. Anything consumable, ingestible or applied to the skin must also be New, which covers beauty, health care and supplements. Books, music and DVDs have their own used condition grades.

The same guidelines say you cannot change the condition of a listing once you have chosen it, so check it before you publish.

For Temu, check the category rules in Seller Center before you plan a range. Product safety and labelling law still applies to anything you sell into the UK or EU, whichever marketplace you use.

Which marketplace to start with

Start with Amazon if your products already have a product page there and you can match the featured price, or if you want someone else to store and post orders through FBA. Budget for the monthly plan from the first month, even in a slow one.

Start with Temu if you want to avoid a monthly fixed cost while you test demand, and you already post orders from your own premises. Confirm the category commission and returns terms in Seller Center first, since those decide your margin.

If you list on both, an item that sells on one marketplace has to come off the other, or you risk selling it twice. The FLUF Connect section below shows how that works for this pair.

Selling on Amazon and Temu with FLUF Connect

FLUF Connect copies your listing to both marketplaces from one catalogue, and you review each listing before it goes live. This is what it does for each channel:

Task Amazon Temu
Create and update listings Yes Yes
Detects a sale on this channel No Yes
Removes the listing when it sells elsewhere Yes Yes
Relisting and offers No No

When an item sells on Temu, FLUF ends the matching Amazon listing for you. When an item sells on Amazon, open it in FLUF and mark it sold. FLUF then sets the Temu stock to zero, so a second buyer cannot order an item you no longer have.

Connecting both channels

  1. Set up your Amazon seller account and your Temu local seller account in the country you sell from.
  2. In FLUF Connect, open Channels and connect each marketplace.
  3. Choose the Amazon marketplace you want. FLUF lists on Amazon.co.uk, .com, .de, .fr, .it, .es and .nl.
  4. List a small batch on each channel first, fix anything either marketplace flags, then list the rest.
