Key Takeaways

  • eMAG Marketplace puts your products in front of more than 7 million active customers across Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary, from one seller account.
  • It is for registered businesses. eMAG accepts SRL, SA and PFA entities and checks your company documents before you can sell.
  • You pay a commission only when something sells, between 7% and 23% depending on the category. There are no listing, account or subscription costs.
  • eMAG pays sellers twice a month: orders completed on the 1st to the 15th are paid on the 17th, orders from the 16th to month end on the 3rd of the next month, or the next working day.
  • FLUF Connect lists your new-condition stock on eMAG by matching each item’s barcode to an existing eMAG catalogue product, keeps the stock level in step with your other channels, and drops the eMAG offer when the item sells elsewhere.

This guide is for a business that already sells online, in Romania or from abroad, and wants to know whether eMAG is worth the application. It covers who eMAG accepts, what it charges, how it pays, which eMAG services matter for a new seller, and what FLUF Connect does and does not do with an eMAG account. If you sell second-hand items as a private person, eMAG is not your marketplace; try Vinted or eBay instead.

What eMAG is

eMAG started in Romania and expanded to Bulgaria in 2012 and Hungary in 2013. Its marketplace lets partner sellers list their own products next to the ones eMAG sells itself, on emag.ro, emag.bg and emag.hu. The seller page quotes more than 7.1 million active customers in the region, over 120 million visits a month, more than 64,000 sellers on the platform and over 6.2 million app installs.

On the customer side, every product carries a label that says whether it is sold and delivered by eMAG or by a named partner. eMAG’s help page tells customers that all marketplace partners go through a selection process and are monitored continuously, and that delivery charges, return policies and warranties can differ by partner and are shown on each partner’s page. Your terms are visible, so they are part of what you compete on.

Who can sell

Only businesses. eMAG’s seller FAQ says all legal entities are accepted: SRL, SA and PFA (the Romanian sole-trader form). You register with your company details and upload the legal documents for verification, in PDF, JPG, JPEG or PNG at up to 15 MB per file. You can register before you have settled on a product range; during onboarding you pick the macro-categories your products belong to, and you can add or change products after the account is active.

The onboarding page describes four steps: add your company information, upload documents and sign the contract, start selling and follow orders in the platform or the mobile app, and sell with no upfront costs. The contract and the commission schedule for your categories come at that second step.

What it costs

eMAG’s model is commission only. The seller FAQ says the commission applies only to sales and varies between 7% and 23% depending on the category your products belong to, with zero listing costs, zero account administration costs and zero subscription costs. The exact rate for each category is in your contract.

Sale price Commission at 7% Commission at 23%
100 RON 7 RON 23 RON
450 RON 31.50 RON 103.50 RON
2,000 RON 140 RON 460 RON

The spread is wide, so ask for the category table before you decide what to list. A low-margin electronics line at the top of the range can lose money after delivery costs; a home or fashion line at the bottom of the range can be comfortable.

How and when you get paid

Payments run twice a month. For orders completed between the 1st and the 15th, eMAG processes payment on the 17th or the first working day after it. For orders completed between the 16th and the end of the month, payment goes out on the 3rd of the following month or the next working day. The money goes to the company bank account you registered with.

Delivery, lockers and Fulfilment by eMAG

You can ship orders yourself with the courier options integrated in the platform, to the customer’s door or to an eMAG locker. The seller page counts more than 9,000 lockers across the three countries. Customers see your delivery charges and terms on your partner page.

The alternative is Fulfilment by eMAG: you send stock to eMAG’s warehouse and eMAG handles picking, packing, shipping, delivery, returns and customer care. For a seller abroad, or one without warehouse staff, this is the practical way to meet eMAG’s delivery expectations. Terms and storage costs are agreed with eMAG.

Selling in Bulgaria and Hungary too

One eMAG account can sell cross-border to Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary. Product content needs to be right for each site, and your delivery and returns promise has to hold in each country, so most sellers start with one market and add the others once the first is running smoothly.

Growth tools that affect a new seller

  • Genius. eMAG’s paid loyalty programme, with more than 1.5 million subscribers across the three countries, gives members free delivery and other benefits. The seller page says products visible to Genius customers can reach a conversion rate up to twice as high. Eligibility depends on meeting eMAG’s handling and delivery standards.
  • eMAG Ads. Pay-per-click placements in listings, search results and product pages, run from your seller account.
  • Campaigns. Black Friday, Multi Deals, Crazy Days and the other eMAG sales events are open to marketplace sellers who enrol products.
  • Instalments. eMAG offers financing options to customers at checkout, which makes higher-ticket products easier to sell.

How eMAG fits with your other channels

Most eMAG sellers also run their own store on Shopify or WooCommerce, and some list the same stock on Amazon or Allegro. The usual pain is stock: an item sold in your own store on Saturday is still live on eMAG on Monday, and you take an order you cannot ship. That is the problem FLUF Connect solves for eMAG.

In FLUF Connect you keep one inventory. From the Channels screen you connect your approved eMAG seller account. FLUF then lists your new-condition items on eMAG by matching each item’s barcode (EAN) to a product that already exists in the eMAG catalogue. If a barcode does not match exactly one catalogue product, or your account already has an offer for it, FLUF tells you so and you resolve it in eMAG’s seller portal. Shared catalogue content such as the title, description and images belongs to the eMAG product page, so edits to those are made in the seller portal rather than in FLUF.

Is eMAG right for you?

Yes, if you are a registered business with new products that carry barcodes, you can meet a retailer’s delivery and customer-service expectations, and Romania, Bulgaria or Hungary are markets you want. The commission-only model keeps the entry cost at zero, and Fulfilment by eMAG removes the logistics barrier for sellers outside the region. No, if you sell used or handmade goods, cannot provide barcodes, or need a marketplace that imports your orders into FLUF; for eMAG, the sales side stays in eMAG’s own seller tools.
