Sell on Macy’s Marketplace: Who Gets Approved and Where FLUF Connect Fits
Macy's picks its marketplace sellers, does not publish its commission rates, and FLUF Connect only lists stock for accounts Macy's has approved.
7 days for £1, then from £9/month.
- Macy’s Marketplace is a curated section of macys.com, opened in September 2022. Macy’s chooses its own sellers, so there is no open sign-up.
- Macy’s keeps its commission rates off its public marketplace page. Ask for them before you commit any stock.
- FLUF Connect is only for businesses Macy’s has already approved. You connect that seller account and list stock against products Macy’s already carries, matched by barcode.
- FLUF does not pick up Macy’s orders, and it does not take items off Macy’s when they sell somewhere else. Those steps stay with you.
This guide is for a US business that already holds barcoded stock in a category Macy’s accepts, such as toys or pet supplies, and has an approval from Macy’s or is waiting on one. If you sell second-hand goods as an individual, Macy’s is the wrong channel. Look at eBay or Etsy first. Macy’s marketplace puts your item beside the department store’s own range on macys.com and in the Macy’s app.
What Macy’s Marketplace is
Macy’s opened its marketplace in September 2022. At launch it added 400 new brands across more than 20 product categories, and the categories included toys and pets. Retail Dive reported the launch on the company’s own announcement.
Macy’s describes the platform on its marketplace page as a place where its customers “purchase products directly from third-party sellers”. Marketplace items are included in the Star Rewards loyalty programme, so shoppers who earn points on Macy’s can earn them on your items too. Sellers can also take part in flagship and category-specific sales.
The same page says Macy’s gives sellers “the tools and resources to be successful and grow their business”. Read that as a description of what Macy’s provides after approval, not a list of the tools themselves. Ask what they are before you sign.
Who Macy’s approves
Macy’s picks its sellers. Its marketplace page says it will “carefully select sellers that align with the brand, experience and quality our customers expect”. The public page does not describe a route for sellers to apply, so there is no form to fill in there.
FLUF does not run an application for Macy’s, and FLUF cannot get you accepted. FLUF lists the channel as invite only, available by approval. If Macy’s has already approved your business, you connect the seller account in FLUF Connect. If it has not, the next step is with Macy’s, and FLUF has no way to speed that up.
Approval is not a guarantee of sales. Keep your range to items you can stand behind, because a shopper who buys a weak product from you reflects on the store that approved you.
Which products fit
Toys and pet products were among the categories at launch. Confirm which categories your account is approved for with Macy’s before you list anything.
Every product needs a barcode. FLUF lists stock against products that already exist in Macy’s catalogue, matched by barcode, so check each barcode is a valid UPC or EAN printed on the pack. An item with a home-made code, a damaged label or no barcode will not match.
Think about the mix before you start. A few well-chosen lines in one category tend to be easier to manage than a broad list spread across many categories on day one.
What Macy’s charges
The public pages give no rate, so this guide cannot either. Ask Macy’s directly.
Before you commit stock, get these in writing from Macy’s:
- The commission rate for each category you plan to sell in
- Any fixed or per-item charges, and when they are taken
- When and how you are paid, and any payment deductions
- Who pays for returns, and whether you must use a particular returns process
- Who handles shipping and the cost of delivering to the customer
- Whether taking part in a flagship or category sale changes your commission or margin
Each answer changes whether a line is worth listing. A product that earns well on eBay can lose money once a commission, a returns cost and a sale discount are taken off.
Connect your approved account in FLUF Connect
Once Macy’s has approved you, open the Channels screen in FLUF Connect and find the Macy’s card. Before you connect, the card reads “Invite only, available by approval” and offers an “Already approved? Connect” option. Use that option to connect your seller account, and only use it after Macy’s has given you access.

After the account is connected, you list items that Macy’s catalogue already holds. Find each product by its barcode, check that the match is the right item, and list your stock against it. If a barcode does not match anything in Macy’s catalogue, the item cannot go on Macy’s through FLUF.
What FLUF does and does not do on Macy’s
The table below is the full list of what FLUF offers on Macy’s today. If a task is not in it, FLUF does not offer it on this channel.
| Task | On Macy’s through FLUF Connect |
|---|---|
| Get approved as a Macy’s seller | You do this with Macy’s |
| Connect your approved seller account | Yes, from the Channels screen |
| List items already in Macy’s catalogue, matched by barcode | Yes |
| Create new products in Macy’s catalogue | No |
| Detect Macy’s orders | No. Check your Macy’s seller account for sales. |
| Remove items from Macy’s when they sell elsewhere | No. Remove them yourself. |
| Relisting, offer management or price automation | No |
In practice that means a Macy’s sale is a manual job. Check your Macy’s seller account for orders, fulfil them there, and remove the item from your other channels yourself. If you also list on eBay or Etsy, a sale on Macy’s will not end those listings for you.
Before you apply: a short checklist
You will get further with Macy’s if you arrive with the basics ready. Have these to hand before any approval conversation:
- A US business, with the tax details Macy’s asks for
- A barcode for every product you want to list, checked against the pack
- Stock on hand for the lines you propose, so you can show availability
- Product photos and descriptions that match what is on the pack
- A plan for who fulfils orders and how quickly you can ship them
Macy’s makes its own decisions on approval. The checklist cannot change that decision, but it means your paperwork is not the reason for a delay.
Is Macy’s worth it for your stock?
Macy’s is a good fit when you already sell barcoded retail products, you have an approval, and you can handle orders by hand. It is a poor fit if you need the platform to find and close sales for you, because FLUF does not do that on Macy’s. Work out the margin per line after the commission and any returns cost before you list anything at scale.
The main reason to look at Macy’s is the buyer. Shoppers already use macys.com for their own range, and Star Rewards points on marketplace items give them a reason to pick yours. Set that against the commission Macy’s quotes you. A niche line with a healthy margin can earn well on a smaller marketplace, so compare per-line profit rather than the size of the audience.
