Key Takeaways

  • This route is for makers who sell on Amazon Handmade and want the same pieces in front of Etsy buyers.
  • Etsy only takes items you made or designed, vintage at least 20 years old, and craft supplies. Branded stock bought for resale does not belong there.
  • Amazon Handmade UK takes a 12.24% referral fee per sale. Etsy charges $0.20 per listing, 6.5% of the order and, in the UK, 4% + £0.20 for payment processing.
  • FLUF sees Etsy sales and ends the Amazon listing for you. Amazon sales you mark sold in FLUF, which then ends the Etsy listing.

Is Etsy right for your Amazon stock?

Start with what you sell, because Etsy is strict about it. Etsy’s seller rules allow four kinds of item: things you made, things you designed, craft and party supplies, and vintage that is at least 20 years old. Reselling a commercially available product that you did not make or design is not allowed.

That makes the fit clear. If you are an approved Amazon Handmade artisan, your range already passed Amazon’s own maker check, and it will almost always meet Etsy’s rules too. If your Amazon business is branded goods, wholesale lines or private-label products made by a factory, Etsy is the wrong second marketplace. Look at eBay or OnBuy instead, with our guides to Amazon to eBay and Amazon to OnBuy.

One grey area deserves care. If a print shop or workshop makes your designs for you, Etsy calls that a production partner, and you must name them in each listing that uses them. Add that detail when the item goes live, not after a buyer asks.

What each marketplace takes from a sale

On Amazon, Handmade UK deducts a 12.24% referral fee when you make a sale. Handmade needs a Professional selling plan, but its £25 monthly fee is waived for approved Handmade sellers after the first month. In the US, the referral fee is 15% or $0.30, whichever is greater, and the $39.99 plan fee is waived the same way.

Etsy’s costs come in three parts. Each listing costs $0.20, charged in your own currency, and lasts four months or until it sells. When it sells, Etsy takes a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus the postage you charge. Then comes payment processing: 4% + £0.20 in the UK, or 3% + $0.25 in the US.

Take a £40 print with free postage in the UK. Amazon Handmade keeps about £4.90. Etsy keeps about £4.56: £2.60 in transaction fee, £1.80 in processing and around 16p for the listing. The two are close enough that fees should not decide this. Reach should.

One Etsy cost can change the sum. When a buyer arrives through one of Etsy’s Offsite Ads and buys within 30 days, Etsy charges an advertising fee of 15% of that order, or 12% for shops that sold $10,000 or more in the past year. For shops under that level you can switch the ads off, and each sale then costs only the three fees above.

Keep each marketplace’s buyers where they are

Makers like to slip a thank-you card into the parcel. On Amazon, keep your Etsy shop name off it. Amazon’s seller code of conduct says you may not divert Amazon customers to another website, and that includes links or messages in the box. Etsy has a matching rule: a transaction started on Etsy may not be completed off Etsy. Build a following on each marketplace separately.

What FLUF does on each side

Amazon Etsy
How you connect Sign in with your Amazon seller account (Professional plan) Sign in with your Etsy account
Bring existing listings into FLUF Yes Yes
FLUF sees a sale here No, mark it sold in FLUF Yes
FLUF ends the listing here when it sells elsewhere Yes Yes
Relisting No Included from the Seller plan upwards

Because Handmade sellers are already on the Professional plan, your Amazon account can connect to FLUF. After that the day-to-day work is lopsided in a helpful way. An Etsy sale shows up in FLUF and the Amazon listing comes down on its own. An Amazon order needs one click in FLUF before you pack it, and the Etsy listing then ends. For one-of-a-kind pieces, make that click part of opening each Amazon order.

Getting your listings Etsy-ready

Your Amazon titles are written for Amazon search, often with the brand first and a long list of attributes. Etsy buyers search by what the thing is and who it is for, so review each title before publishing. Fill in Etsy’s tags as well, because they shape which searches your listing appears in. Your photos carry over. A lifestyle shot suits Etsy’s front page better than a plain white background, so if you have one, put it first.

Getting started

  1. Connect Amazon by signing in with your seller account, and bring your Handmade listings into FLUF.
  2. Connect Etsy by signing in with your Etsy account.
  3. Pick the pieces to send. Start with items you can make again, where a sale on either side is easy to replace.
  4. Rewrite titles for Etsy search, add tags and any production partner, set your Etsy price, and publish.
