Why a Tradera seller looks at Grailed

Tradera is built for speed. An auction runs three to fourteen days, and a Köp nu listing sits live until the moment a bid lands and the fixed price vanishes. The seller’s job is to list and show up — the countdown clock does the persuading. That is a wonderful shape when you have volume and you want to move it fast. Most Tradera sellers price low to attract bidding, and the marketplace rewards velocity.

Grailed operates at the opposite end of the marketplace spectrum. A listing sits there until it sells, or until a year has passed. Nobody has to be watching at 8pm on a Tuesday. A buyer searching for a specific Acne Studios season from 2012, or an early Our Legacy collaboration, or a Stone Island piece in a rare colourway can find it in March or June or whenever they are looking. GOAT Group, Grailed’s parent, describes combined membership of over 50 million across 170 countries, and Grailed prices everything in US dollars — so the American buyer, who drives most designer menswear demand across all channels, is reading prices in their own currency rather than converting SEK to USD and worrying about the swap rate.

The stock split is therefore not a choice between one or the other. It is a disciplined split within your rail. Tradera moves the volume on items that have local Swedish appeal, items that hit the right auction moment, or pieces where the 10% commission ceiling makes the sale worthwhile even at lower prices. Grailed waits for the piece that deserves global pricing and several months to find its buyer — the archive jacket in unworn condition, the Scandinavian-designer furniture piece that collectors outside Sweden prize, the collaboration that did not release widely outside Europe or was limited to boutiques in Copenhagen and Stockholm.

That said, the fee gap between the two is wider than almost any guide admits, and it is the factor that decides whether Grailed works for you at all. Crossing items between Tradera and Grailed is not about having two channels on auto-pilot; it is about knowing which stock belongs where.

What each marketplace takes

One crucial line: on Grailed, the commission base includes buyer-paid postage when no Grailed Label is used. A Swedish seller can never use a Grailed Label, because those are restricted to US domestic and Canada-to-US consignments under $750 and 20 pounds. So every order pays commission on item plus shipping.

What Grailed costs a Swedish seller specifically

Take a worked example. A Tradera seller lists a Norse Projects anorak and gets a $180 offer on Grailed from a US buyer. Tradera’s commission has a 200 kr ceiling, so it would take 10% of the first 2,000 kr and nothing more on a typical SEK equivalent. Grailed’s structure is different.

Charge the US buyer $12 for tracked international postage (a reasonable figure for Stockholm to Chicago). You collect $192 total. Grailed’s commission on sales $120+ is 9%, so you owe $17.28. Add 4.99% + $0.49 payment processing on the $192 — that is $10.07. VAT applies to Grailed’s fees, so those rise. The all-in fee is roughly 13–14% of the sale, or about $24–27 on a $180 item before conversion.

Against that, Tradera’s flat 10% cap at 200 kr is approximately 4% on the same sale translated to SEK. The two marketplaces do not price the same goods the same way, so the comparison is not stable, but the structure difference is clear: Tradera rewards expensive items with a hard ceiling. Grailed applies percentages with no ceiling and taxes postage on top.

Currency cost depends on your banking. If you hold dollars or deal in EUR, conversion is the swap rate plus your bank’s spread. If you convert SEK to USD via Grailed’s payout, the rate depends on your payment processor’s agreements.

No shipping labels outside North America

Grailed publishes shipping labels to the platform for US domestic and Canada consignments only. Everyone else — including Swedish sellers — purchases their own label and ships with the carrier of their choice.

In practice that means Royal Mail, DHL, PostNord or Evri for you. It also means those postage costs — the cost of the label you buy and hand to the buyer — are treated as part of the sale price for commission purposes. A £12 postage charge is not a cost offset; it is revenue that Grailed taxes.

This is the line that ambushes sellers moving from Tradera or other European auctions, because many do not see it coming. Tradera handles the courier integration for you and takes its commission on the item only. Grailed requires you to name your price for postage, and then taxes that price too.

What Grailed will delete

Grailed publishes a list of designers that are not allowed: Goros, unbranded fine jewellery, and roughly forty-five watch brands including Rolex, Cartier, Omega, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and TAG Heuer.

Beyond the blacklist, custom items and listings without a recognised designer are subject to removal. Grailed reserves the right to delete for condition, quality, brand, age or lack of desirability. It is a human gate, not an algorithmic one, and the outcome depends on what the curation team thinks the item is worth listing.

The practical consequence: a large slice of lower-price Tradera stock — the £15 vintage t-shirt, the unbranded belt, the resale blank — cannot cross to Grailed at all. Grailed is explicitly not a general marketplace; it is a designer-curated one. If the brand is not in the dropdown or is on the blacklist, the listing will be removed, and you will have spent effort setting it up for nothing.

If your brand is absent rather than banned, Grailed accepts designer requests if you supply the name, a link to the brand website or a stockist, and whether they make menswear, womenswear or both. Womenswear was added to Grailed on 25 October 2022, so the assumption that Grailed is menswear only is out of date — but the designer gate remains strict either way.

What transfers from Tradera to Grailed

Language is critical. Tradera is Swedish-language by default and Grailed’s buyers are overwhelmingly not Swedish. A copied Swedish title is invisible in Grailed search. Rewriting titles in English is not optional polish on this pair.

Condition matters more on Grailed. Because the item sits on its own listing for months rather than in a timed auction, a buyer compares it against the photographs and your condition notes, not against five other similar items in a countdown. Write the condition as if it were the primary selling point, because in a long-form listing it is.

Inventory sync and the manual mark-sold discipline

Neither platform’s sales are detected by FLUF. When an item sells on Tradera or Grailed, FLUF does not automatically know. You must mark it sold in FLUF yourself so FLUF removes the Grailed listing, and end the Tradera listing yourself. The only exception: if the item also sells on a third connected channel that FLUF does detect (such as eBay, Vinted, or Depop), FLUF removes it from Grailed automatically.

This is the lived risk on this pair. A Tradera auction is binding — a bid is a binding contract. If the same item is live on Grailed at the same time and it sells in the Tradera auction, you have now made two promises: one to a Swedish bidder with a valid bid on Tradera, and one to a Grailed buyer who has paid. You own that garment once, not twice, and resolving this is complicated and damages your reputation on both platforms.

The workable discipline is to manage both listings with awareness: check your Tradera auctions daily or several times a week, and manually mark items sold in FLUF when the Tradera auction closes or when someone uses Köp nu. You do not need to be monitoring constantly, but you do need the habit. Tradera auctions move fast enough that you will know within the auction window (typically three to fourteen days), and a Köp nu sale happens instantly.

How to crosslist from Tradera to Grailed

1. Connect Tradera in FLUF Connect. Follow Tradera’s sign-in prompts; no extension is needed. FLUF will ask for permission to read your account and your listings.
2. Import your catalogue. FLUF reads your Tradera listings and creates master product records — titles, descriptions, images, prices, categories. This catalogue becomes the single source of truth for your inventory across both channels.
3. Filter for Grailed-eligible items. Review your stock against the designer gate. Anything without a recognised brand in Grailed’s dropdown is at deletion risk and will be removed by Grailed’s curation team; anything on Grailed’s blacklist (the forty-five watch brands, Goros, unbranded fine jewellery) cannot go at all. Do this filtering before you crosslist, not after.
4. Connect Grailed. Install the FLUF browser extension, then authorise Grailed via FLUF Connect. No password is shared with FLUF; Grailed handles the handshake. The extension is needed to push listings to Grailed.
5. Rewrite titles in English. Your Tradera titles in Swedish are invisible in Grailed’s search index. Crosslisting does not translate; you set new titles for each item. Focus on brand, product type, and any notable details — the title is your hook.
6. Price in USD. Set a price you would accept in US dollars. Factor in the 13–14% fee gap and any currency conversion cost you carry. Tradera’s fixed-price items (Köp nu) carry over as starting points; auctions have no fixed price to convert, so you set a fresh price.
7. Select and crosslist. Choose the items from your master catalogue and click Crosslist to Grailed. Review the mapped fields — category (Grailed uses a different taxonomy), condition, and designer — before confirming. Grailed may flag high-risk items for human verification.
8. Watch Tradera yourself. Check your auctions and Köp nu listings for sales daily if possible. When an item sells in Sweden, mark it sold in FLUF within a few hours so Grailed knows to remove it. This discipline prevents double-selling the same physical object.

What we could not verify, and therefore left out. Grailed publishes no comprehensive list of supported seller countries or payout currencies beyond what is implicit in its help articles. We assume Swedish sellers can connect and receive payments via Stripe, based on Grailed’s global registry entry and its international payment processing availability, but Grailed does not publish an explicit seller-country support matrix. Tradera’s exact percentage of listings that are Köp nu (fixed price) versus auction — no public figure exists, so we have not estimated what share of your catalogue will transfer a usable price. Whether Grailed’s designer request process succeeds more often than it fails, or how long it takes — no published data. And the precise fee impact of VAT on Grailed’s fees for a Swedish seller — we have used the gross percentages and noted that VAT applies, but Grailed does not break out the VAT-inclusive final figure on this pair.
