Crosslist from eBay to TikTok Shop — Half Your Catalogue Needs Permission, Half Does Not

An eBay catalogue usually mixes new and used stock, and TikTok Shop treats those two completely differently. Here is which half can go straight across, which half needs an approval, and how the item specifics map.

Key Takeaways — eBay to TikTok Shop Crosslisting

  • Your catalogue splits in two. New stock crosses to TikTok Shop with no special permission. Used stock needs a category approval and cannot exceed £500 per listing.
  • This is the one source channel with structured data to give. eBay item specifics map onto TikTok Shop’s category attributes — unlike a resale app, where everything has to be inferred.
  • Titles gain room and gain a requirement. eBay caps at 80 characters; TikTok Shop’s guidance runs to 255 — but used listings must contain “second-hand”, “pre-owned” or “pre-loved”.
  • Photos get trimmed. eBay allows 24 per listing, TikTok Shop 9 — and they must be square, at least 800×800, and in colour.
  • Sync runs one way. Sold on eBay drops your TikTok Shop stock. Sold on TikTok Shop does not yet drop anything.
  • Cost: from £9/month. There is no free plan, but every new account gets a 7-day free trial.

The fork: new stock and used stock go different ways

This pair behaves unlike any other route into TikTok Shop, and the reason is that eBay catalogues are usually mixed. A Depop or Vinted seller is dealing entirely in used goods. An eBay seller often has new stock, used stock, refurbished stock and the occasional collectable in the same account — and TikTok Shop applies completely different rules to each.

What you are listing TikTok Shop UK treatment
New goods No special permission. List them like any other retail product.
Used clothing and vintage Category approval required; £500 maximum per listing; title must say “second-hand”, “pre-owned” or “pre-loved”; at least one photo must show the imperfections.
Ungraded collectable trading cards Permitted with no application — the one open second-hand category.
Graded trading cards Approval required, capped at £1,000 per listing.
Refurbished phones, tablets, laptops, watches Approval required.
Graded comic books, refurbished appliances Approval required.
Mystery or surprise bundles of used goods Prohibited outright.

The controlling text is TikTok Shop UK’s Restricted Products Policy, which states that “all second-hand products can only be sold if a seller has been onboarded via a limited, ‘invite-only’ process.” Despite the wording you apply yourself, through Seller Center under Qualification Center, rather than waiting to be invited.

The practical consequence for an eBay seller is a sequencing decision rather than a yes-or-no one. Crosslist your new stock immediately; put your used stock behind the approval. There is no reason to hold the whole catalogue back while an application sits in a queue, and sellers report those reviews running well past the stated seven days.

One more scope limit that is ours rather than TikTok’s: FLUF Connect’s TikTok Shop application is approved for the United Kingdom only. TikTok Shop runs around twenty seller markets, but a seller outside the UK cannot complete the authorisation today.

Why an eBay seller adds TikTok Shop

Because eBay’s demand is intent and TikTok Shop’s is attention

eBay is where people go having already decided what they want. TikTok Shop reaches people who had decided nothing. For a seller with depth in a category, that is genuinely additive rather than cannibalising — the same stock, sold to people who would never have typed its name into a search box.

Both are large. eBay ended 2025 with 135 million active buyers and 2.5 billion live listings, $79.6 billion in GMV, and recommerce is more than 40% of that. TikTok reported passing 300,000 UK small-business sellers in July 2026, with new sellers joining at roughly triple the previous year’s rate and LIVE shopping sales up 55% year on year.

Because the UK skews expensive, which suits an eBay catalogue

41% of UK TikTok Shop revenue comes from items over £100, against a global average of 2.8%. That is the opposite of the platform’s cheap-impulse-goods reputation, and it maps well onto the kind of stock an established eBay seller carries. For used fashion it also means the commercially interesting band — £100 up to the £500 ceiling — is both permitted and where the UK market actually converts.

Because no competing tool reaches it

Vendoo, List Perfectly, Crosslist and Zipsale all publish supported-marketplace lists, and TikTok Shop appears on none of them. TikTok Shop is an approval-gated API channel, so tools built on browser automation cannot connect to it at all.

What it costs, compared honestly

  eBay UK TikTok Shop UK
Business seller success fee 11.9% on clothes, shoes and accessories; 12.9% on many other categories 9%, inclusive of applicable taxes
Private seller success fee 0% — no final value or regulatory fees 9% regardless; there is no private-seller status
Per-order fee £0.30 up to £10, £0.40 above (the upper tier rose in February 2026) None
Regulatory operating fee 0.35% for business sellers None
Shipping-related charge None from eBay £0.50 per delivered order when you ship yourself
Listing fee 250 free per month on a Basic Shop, then 35p None

eBay figures exclude VAT. The comparison genuinely depends on who you are. For an eBay business seller in clothing, TikTok Shop at 9% is cheaper than eBay at 11.9% plus 0.35% plus £0.40 — an unusual position, and one most pages about TikTok Shop get backwards. For an eBay private seller, who since February 2025 pays nothing at all in the UK, TikTok Shop is straightforwardly more expensive.

Two claims to ignore. There is no separate TikTok Shop payment-processing fee — its own fee documentation lists commission, shipping fees, affiliate commission and adjustments only, and the “1.4% + £0.20” figure in circulation is generic UK card acquiring. And the “1.8% for 90 days” new-seller rate has no primary source; TikTok confirms a reduced new-seller rate exists but does not publish its value.

One structural detail worth pricing in: TikTok’s published commission formula applies the rate to net sales plus customer-paid shipping, not to the item price alone. On a low-value item with high postage, the effective rate is higher than 9% of what you thought you were selling.

How to crosslist from eBay to TikTok Shop with FLUF Connect

  1. Split your catalogue mentally first — new stock now, used stock after approval.
  2. Sign in to FLUF Connect and open the Channels page.
  3. Connect eBay. A standard authorisation; everything runs server-side.
  4. Connect TikTok Shop. Also server-side, through TikTok’s own consent screen — no browser extension and nothing to leave open.
  5. Import your eBay listings.
  6. Review titles and categories. Used listings pick up the mandatory pre-loved wording here.
  7. Publish.

Category resolution runs title-first through TikTok’s own recommendation endpoint, then falls back to FLUF’s cached source-to-destination mapping. It is asked with the title alone, deliberately: feeding it a full seller description reliably degrades the result and can return “no matching categories” for an item that resolves cleanly from its title. If nothing resolves, the listing is reported as a failure rather than published into the wrong branch.

What transfers — field and category mapping

eBay field TikTok Shop field Transfer status Notes
Title (80 chars) Product name Automatic; rewritten for used stock TikTok’s guidance allows 25–255 characters, so keyword-compressed eBay titles can breathe. Used listings must gain the pre-loved wording. TikTok bans clickbait, marketing copy and references to other platforms.
Description (HTML) Description Automatic TikTok Shop UK requires at least 30 words and the API accepts up to 10,000 characters, so eBay descriptions do not truncate. Active content is not carried across.
Item specifics (up to 45) Category attributes Smart mapped The best-mapping field in this pair. eBay aspects are structured, so brand, size, colour, material and style land in TikTok’s category attributes rather than being guessed from prose.
Pictures (up to 24) Images (up to 9) Automatic, trimmed TikTok Shop caps at nine, requires at least 800×800px, square, and colour only — black-and-white images are rejected. Five or more images reaches the “Good” listing-quality tier.
Condition Condition Smart mapped TikTok Shop expects Good, Very Good or Excellent for second-hand fashion.
Price Price Automatic, capped for used stock Used fashion above £500 is ineligible; new stock has no ceiling.
eBay category Leaf category id Smart mapped Resolved from the title first. Note that an eBay shop category is not an item category — only the item category informs the mapping.
SKU SKU Automatic Both sides are SKU-keyed, so stock updates have a reliable join.
Variations SKUs within a product Smart mapped Both platforms support multi-variant products, so a size-run listing does not have to be broken apart.
Product video Manual One optional video per listing, up to 5MB. eBay has no equivalent to carry across, and on TikTok Shop this is what actually sells.
Imperfection photo Manual, for used stock Mandatory for second-hand fashion, with no eBay equivalent.

One category-tree detail that stays invisible until it matters: TikTok mirrors its taxonomy per region rather than globally. The UK and US trees are different shapes, with different category versions and different mandatory attributes, so a category identifier only means something alongside its region. It is also why the UK-only scope of the connection is a real constraint rather than paperwork.

What syncs, and the direction that does not

Event What happens
Item sells on eBay TikTok Shop stock is dropped automatically.
Item sells on TikTok Shop Nothing happens elsewhere. Order sync is not implemented for TikTok Shop, so the sale is not detected and your eBay listing stays live.
You edit price or stock in FLUF Pushed to TikTok Shop.
You delete in FLUF Removed from TikTok Shop.

We record TikTok Shop as supporting sold-elsewhere delisting and nothing more, because a channel registry that overclaims makes every downstream decision wrong. Order sync goes in when it is built against a real order body, not before.

This asymmetry deserves more care on eBay than on a resale app. An unfulfilled eBay order — because you sold the last one on TikTok Shop and did not notice — is not just an awkward message. Cancellations feed eBay’s seller performance metrics, which drive your search placement, so the cost compounds. The habit that closes it is simple: when a TikTok Shop order lands, mark the item sold in FLUF Connect and the fan-out to eBay and everywhere else runs from there.

Before and after — the real workflow

Doing it by hand

  1. Open TikTok Seller Center and start a new product
  2. Rewrite the title, adding pre-loved wording if the item is used
  3. Re-upload photos, cropped square to at least 800×800, discarding everything past the ninth
  4. Shoot and add an imperfection photo for used stock
  5. Walk the category tree to a leaf and re-enter the attributes eBay already held as item specifics
  6. Rebuild any variations
  7. Re-enter price and stock, then publish
  8. Watch both channels and delist by hand whenever either sells

With FLUF Connect

  1. Filter to eligible stock
  2. Choose TikTok Shop
  3. Confirm the title, the inferred category and the mapped attributes
  4. Publish

Around half a minute per item once your defaults are set, and the eBay-side delist handles itself. The item-specifics mapping is where this pair saves the most time relative to crosslisting from a resale app, because the structured data already exists and does not have to be invented.

One thing to sort before any of this: registration

An established eBay seller usually clears TikTok Shop’s onboarding without difficulty, but it is stricter than eBay’s and it is worth knowing what is coming rather than starting an application blind.

TikTok Shop UK recognises two seller classes. The sole trader route requires that you are at least 18, hold a UK-issued passport or driving licence, provide a selfie holding that document plus a verification video recorded by scanning a QR code on your phone, evidence a UK residential address with a bank statement or utility bill from the last three months, and supply bank details from a UK institution in a name matching the seller. Corporate sellers additionally need incorporation in the country of registration, a domestic business address, a company registration number, director identification and a signed letter of authorisation from a current director.

A VAT number is requested only if you are already VAT registered, so it is not a barrier. Nor is an audience — the 1,000-follower threshold that circulates constantly applies to affiliate creators promoting other people’s products, not to shop owners. A UK seller made the point directly: “you don’t need followers to sell on TikTok shop in the UK.”

None of that is onerous for someone already trading on eBay as a business. It is, however, a hard stop for anyone hoping to test the channel casually, and it is the reason the second-hand approval sits on top of an already-verified account rather than being the first hurdle.

Automation on each channel

Feature eBay TikTok Shop
Crosslisting Yes Yes
Sale detection on this channel Yes Not yet
Sold elsewhere → stocked out here Yes Yes
Order sync Yes Not supported
Auto-relisting Yes Not supported
Offer management Yes Not supported
Bulk operations Yes Yes
Minimum images 1 1 (2 for second-hand fashion, by policy)

Auto-relisting and offer management both run on eBay, where Best Offer otherwise needs manual attention. Neither exists on TikTok Shop — it has no offer system to automate and its distribution is driven by content rather than listing recency. Automation is included in every plan rather than sold as a paid add-on.

Sources and verification

Verified in August 2026. TikTok publishes no UK GMV or UK active-buyer figure, so none is quoted. The reduced new-seller commission rate exists in policy but its UK value and duration are unpublished. eBay fees are quoted excluding VAT and vary by category, site and seller type — check your own rate card before pricing. Eligibility guidance summarises TikTok Shop’s published policies and is not advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not in one go, because TikTok Shop treats new and used stock differently. New goods cross with no special permission. Used clothing and vintage need a category approval and cannot exceed £500 per listing, and refurbished electronics, graded trading cards and graded comics each need approval too. The sensible sequence is to crosslist new stock immediately and put used stock behind the application rather than holding everything back.

Ungraded collectable trading cards are the one open second-hand category on TikTok Shop UK — they need no application at all. Graded cards do need approval and are capped at £1,000 per listing. Everything else second-hand, including used clothing, sits behind the Qualification Center application.

It depends which kind of eBay seller you are, and most guides get this backwards. For a UK business seller in clothing, eBay charges 11.9% plus a 0.35% regulatory fee plus £0.30 to £0.40 per order, all excluding VAT — so TikTok Shop's 9% inclusive commission is genuinely cheaper. For a UK private seller, who has paid no final value or regulatory fees since February 2025, TikTok Shop is clearly more expensive.

Yes, and this is where the pair maps better than any other route into TikTok Shop. eBay item specifics are structured data — up to 45 aspects per listing — so brand, size, colour, material and style land in TikTok Shop's category attributes directly rather than being inferred from prose. Crosslisting from a resale app means inventing all of that; crosslisting from eBay does not.

They get trimmed. eBay allows up to 24 pictures per listing and TikTok Shop caps at nine, so long photo sets lose the tail. TikTok Shop also requires images to be at least 800×800 pixels, square, and in colour — black-and-white images are rejected outright. Used fashion additionally needs at least one photo showing the scratches, stretch marks or imperfections, which has no eBay equivalent.

They will fit easily — this is one of the few fields that gains room. eBay caps titles at 80 characters, while TikTok Shop's guidance allows 25 to 255, so the keyword compression eBay forces on you can be relaxed. Used listings must gain the words “second-hand”, “pre-owned” or “pre-loved”, and TikTok bans clickbait, marketing copy and references to other platforms.

Not automatically yet. Order sync is not implemented for TikTok Shop, so a sale there is not detected and your eBay listing stays live. The reverse works properly: an eBay sale drops the TikTok Shop stock. This matters more on eBay than elsewhere, because cancelling an order you cannot fulfil feeds eBay's seller performance metrics and affects your search placement. Mark TikTok Shop sales as sold in FLUF Connect and the fan-out runs from there.

Yes. Both platforms support multi-variant products keyed on SKU, so a size-run listing does not have to be split into separate products the way it would for a classifieds channel. The shared SKU also gives stock updates a reliable join between the two.

Not currently. FLUF Connect's TikTok Shop application is approved for the United Kingdom only, so sellers elsewhere cannot complete the authorisation even though TikTok Shop itself operates in around twenty markets. We will extend the list as each additional market is approved.

Not to publish a listing — a product video is optional and capped at 5MB. But TikTok Shop's demand is content-led rather than search-led, so a listing with nothing pointing at it behaves very differently from an eBay listing, which the marketplace's own search will surface. Videos are not carried across from eBay; they are made natively.
