Crosslist from GoTrendier to Etsy — An Export Route for the Vintage Slice

GoTrendier sells inside Mexico and Colombia. Etsy reaches buyers paying in dollars and euros — but only accepts resale of items over twenty years old, so the first job is working out how much of your closet clears that line.

Key Takeaways — GoTrendier to Etsy

  • This is an export route, not a second closet. GoTrendier sells inside Mexico and Colombia. Etsy puts the same garment in front of buyers in the United States and Europe, paid in a currency that is not falling behind the peso.
  • Only a slice of a GoTrendier closet is eligible. Etsy allows resale only for items 20+ years old, things you made or designed, and craft supplies. Ordinary second-hand fast fashion does not qualify, whatever condition it is in.
  • For clothing, “vintage” means made before roughly 2006 — genuine 1990s and earlier pieces, not Y2K-styled reproductions, which Etsy excludes by name.
  • Mexican sellers can absolutely get paid. Mexico is on Etsy Payments’ direct list with no Payoneer detour: processing is 4.5% + 8.00 MXN, deposited to a Mexican bank account in pesos.
  • Watch the deposit fee, not the commission. Etsy charges 40.00 MXN on any deposit under 2,000.00 MXN — on a small payout that can cost more than the processing did.
  • Etsy costs money before it earns any: US$0.20 per listing whether or not it sells, and again every four months. GoTrendier charges nothing to list and takes 18% + $19 MXN only on a sale.
  • Cost: £1 for 7 days, then plans from £9/month (Starter — 300 products). There is no free plan.

Why a Mexican closet needs an export channel

GoTrendier is a genuinely good domestic marketplace. It has passed eight million registered users in Mexico (El Financiero, June 2025), its sellers have earned more than MX$1.8 billion between them (El Publicista), and about 5,000 garments are published on it every day with sessions running past twenty minutes (La República). If you are selling ordinary second-hand fashion to Mexican buyers, it is close to the right answer already.

Its limit is geographic, and it is a hard one. GoTrendier operates in Mexico and Colombia and nowhere else. A prepaid Estafeta label goes to a Mexican address. Whatever you list, your entire addressable market is people paying in pesos, and the ceiling on any individual item is what a Mexican buyer of second-hand clothes will pay for it.

For most of a closet that ceiling is fine and the friction of exporting would not be worth it. For a specific minority of items it is not fine at all — a genuine 1990s Levi’s jacket, a hand-embroidered blouse, a piece of Mexican artisanal jewellery — where the buyer willing to pay the most is in Portland or Berlin, and will pay in dollars or euros. That is the entire argument for putting Etsy alongside GoTrendier rather than instead of it.

The eligibility gate, and what it leaves you

Before anything else: Etsy will not accept most of a second-hand fashion closet, and this is not a grey area.

Etsy’s Seller Policy, effective 9 July 2026, states that “everything listed for sale on Etsy must be made, designed, handpicked, or sourced by a seller” (Etsy, Seller Policy). The Creativity Standards then define what “handpicked” covers — “Vintage items: Items that are 20+ years old, that the seller personally curated or collected” — and, on the same page, what it explicitly does not: “Resold commercially available items that are newer than 20 years old, even if the item is designed to appear vintage” (Etsy, Creativity Standards).

Applied to clothing in 2026, the twenty-year line means roughly pre-2006. A Zara blouse from last season is out. A Shein dress is out. A 2015 designer bag is out, however genuine and however good the condition — condition is not what the rule is about. And the “designed to appear vintage” clause closes the door on reproduction and Y2K-revival stock as well.

What is left is a real and often valuable seam:

  • True vintage clothing, pre-2006. 1990s denim, 1980s leather, older band and sports merchandise, mid-century dresses. Etsy notes it “may ask for additional photo documentation or information about vintage items in your shop, such as their source, age, designer, or materials”, so be ready to evidence the age rather than assert it.
  • Anything you made or altered yourself. Etsy’s handcrafted definition covers items “crafted entirely by hand (including using handheld or hand-guided tools like a sewing machine or table saw), from raw or basic craft materials”. A reworked garment you actually sewed qualifies; a garment you merely cleaned does not.
  • Anything you designed, even if produced with help.
  • Craft supplies — fabric, trims, beads, blanks, kits — which are an explicit exception to the resale ban.

Etsy also notes that sellers “remain obligated to pay any fees incurred in listing” items that are later removed for breaking these rules. Since Etsy listings cost money up front, an ineligible batch can cost you real pesos before anyone tells you it was ineligible. Sort first, list second. The same gate, worked through for a general classifieds catalogue rather than a fashion closet, is covered on the Kijiji to Etsy page.

Two very different fee shapes

GoTrendier charges nothing to list and takes its cut only when something sells: verbatim from its own cost page, “Al vendedor se le cargará 18% de comisión + $19 (IVA incluido) del precio fijado” (GoTrendier México, Lista de costes). Withdrawing your balance to a bank account costs $10 MXN per transfer.

Etsy inverts this. A listing costs US$0.20 and Etsy charges it “whether or not the item sells”; listings expire after four months and auto-renew by default at another US$0.20 each cycle (Etsy, Fees and Payments Policy). Then, on a sale, a 6.5% transaction fee on the displayed price plus shipping, and payment processing which for Mexico is 4.5% + 8.00 MXN (Etsy Payments Policy). Mexico is not on Etsy’s Regulatory Operating fee list, which several European countries and Canada are — a small saving worth knowing about.

GoTrendier Etsy (Mexican seller)
Cost to list Free US$0.20, whether or not it sells, per four-month cycle
Commission on a sale 18% + $19 MXN, IVA included 6.5% transaction fee
Payment processing Included in the commission 4.5% + 8.00 MXN
All-in on a sale ~19–27% depending on price ~11% + 8 MXN, before advertising
Withdrawal $10 MXN per transfer 40.00 MXN on deposits under 2,000.00 MXN
Advertising Optional promotions Offsite Ads at 15%, or 12% and mandatory above US$10,000 a year
Buyer pool Mexico and Colombia Global

Read plainly, Etsy takes roughly half what GoTrendier does on a sale and charges you for the privilege of waiting. That is the correct trade for slow-moving, high-value vintage and the wrong one for a fast-turning closet of ordinary items — which conveniently matches the eligibility gate almost exactly. Etsy’s rules and Etsy’s economics are pointing at the same subset of your stock.

One warning about Offsite Ads. Below US$10,000 in trailing-year sales you can opt out; at or above it participation becomes mandatory at 12% for the lifetime of the shop, even if sales later fall, and for a non-USD shop the threshold is measured in US dollars converted at the time each sale processed. It is a one-way door.

Pesos, dollars, and the deposit fee nobody mentions

Mexico is on Etsy Payments’ eligible-country list without an asterisk, which matters more than it looks: asterisked countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru have to route through Payoneer, while Mexican sellers onboard directly with a Mexican bank account (Etsy, countries eligible for Etsy Payments). Etsy also runs a localised Mexican seller funnel. So this is a supported market, not a workaround.

Two currency decisions follow, and both cost money if you get them wrong.

The listing currency. If you list in US dollars while your payment account is in pesos — tempting, since your buyers are largely American — Etsy charges a 2.5% currency conversion fee on the sale amount. Etsy’s own advice is to list in the same currency as your payment account. For a Mexican seller that generally means listing in MXN and letting Etsy show a converted price to the American buyer, which costs you nothing.

The deposit size. This is the one nobody warns you about. Etsy charges a deposit fee of 40.00 MXN on any deposit under 2,000.00 MXN. On a single small sale that fee can exceed everything else Etsy charged: sell one item for 400 MXN, take a deposit immediately, and 40 pesos of it goes to the deposit fee alone. The fix is simply to let the balance accumulate past 2,000 MXN before you deposit — which is free to do and which most sellers only discover after paying the fee three or four times.

From a three-step wizard to a seven-tab form

Listing on GoTrendier is deliberately quick — it advertises the process as taking under sixty seconds, and structurally it is a three-step wizard: photos and text, then attributes, then price, where the price step is the one that actually publishes. The fields are photos, title, description, category, brand, size, colour, condition and price, with a title capped at 120 characters, a description at 2,000, and between one and ten photos.

Etsy’s form runs to seven tabs and is where its search actually lives, so the effort is front-loaded in a way GoTrendier sellers will find unfamiliar.

GoTrendier Etsy Notes
Title, up to 120 characters Title, up to 140 characters Transfers, with room to spare. Etsy advises under 15 words and freezes the URL from the first published title
Description, up to 2,000 characters Description Transfers
Up to 10 photos Up to 20 photos, plus 2 videos of 5–15 seconds Everything transfers; Etsy has the larger allowance
Price, whole pesos only Price Transfers. GoTrendier rejects decimals; Etsy does not care
Category, from the Mexican or Colombian tree Category Mapped. Etsy’s category then determines which attributes appear
Brand, from GoTrendier’s list An attribute or a tag Etsy has no universal brand field for vintage
Size Variation or attribute Etsy variations require a category first
Condition, one of five grades No direct equivalent. Etsy asks instead who made it and when, which is a different claim entirely
Who made it, what it is, when it was made Required, and this is where the vintage claim is formally made
Up to 13 tags, 20 characters each A primary ranking input on Etsy, with no GoTrendier equivalent
Shipping profile Required, and the biggest practical change — see below

The “when it was made” field is the important one on this route. It is not decoration; it is the declaration that makes a vintage listing legitimate, and it is what Etsy holds you to if it asks for documentation. GoTrendier’s five condition grades — Nuevo con etiqueta, Nuevo sin etiqueta, En perfecto estado, Puesto una vez, Usado — tell a buyer how worn something is, which is a completely different question from how old it is. On this route you are answering the age question for the first time.

Shipping, which stops being free labour

On GoTrendier, shipping is not your problem in a very literal sense. The buyer pays it — $79 MXN via Estafeta or $49 MXN via PuntoPost, up to a volumetric weight of five kilos — GoTrendier issues the prepaid label, and you hand the parcel over. You never quote a rate, buy a label or absorb a cost.

On Etsy you own all of that. A shipping profile is a required part of the listing, and if you are selling internationally you are setting rates for destinations you have never posted to, with delivery windows you are promising to meet. Cross-border parcels from Mexico take considerably longer than a domestic Estafeta delivery, and buyer expectations in the United States are calibrated to domestic American shipping.

Three practical consequences. Build the shipping cost into your thinking before you set a price, because Etsy’s 6.5% transaction fee applies to the shipping you charge as well as the item. Start with a small number of destination countries rather than the world, and expand once you know what a parcel to each actually costs and how long it takes. And weigh and measure the item properly — GoTrendier never asked you for a weight, so this is another number that does not exist anywhere in your current records.

How to crosslist with FLUF Connect

  1. Do the eligibility sort first. Go through the closet and mark what is genuinely pre-2006, hand-made by you, designed by you, or a craft supply. If that comes to five items, this is a five-item channel, and that is a perfectly good answer.
  2. Connect GoTrendier. The FLUF browser extension performs a one-time credential capture at connect; after that, listing and editing run server-side without the browser needing to stay open. Your country and currency come from the credential, so a Colombian account behaves as one automatically.
  3. Connect Etsy. A standard authorisation you approve once, with no extension needed on this side.
  4. Fill the Etsy-only fields. Who made it, what it is, when it was made, the category attributes, thirteen tags and a shipping profile. This is where the real work is, and it is one-off per item.
  5. Choose your currency and your renewal policy. List in MXN to avoid the 2.5% conversion fee, and turn auto-renew off for anything speculative so you are not paying US$0.20 every four months for a listing that is not moving.

What syncs, and what does not

Event What happens
Item sells on Etsy Automatic. Etsy supports order sync, so FLUF reads the sale and the GoTrendier listing comes down without you doing anything.
Item sells on GoTrendier You mark it sold in FLUF and the Etsy listing comes down. GoTrendier sold-detection is deliberately not wired.
Automatic relisting Supported on Etsy. Not available on GoTrendier — a relist there means delete then recreate, and a failure mid-wizard would leave you with nothing live.
Offer management Not available on either channel through FLUF.
Etsy’s four-month expiry Handled by Etsy’s own auto-renew setting.

The reason GoTrendier’s sold-detection is unwired is worth stating rather than glossing. Its sold state has never been observed on a real seller account, and inferring a sale from a listing simply disappearing is how an integration quietly withdraws a seller’s entire live wardrobe — listings vanish through expiry, moderation and the seller’s own hand far more often than through sales. Rather than guess, FLUF asks for one click. Etsy, which emits a proper order, needs no click at all. Inventory sync covers which channels sit on each side of that line.

What it costs

FLUF Connect is £1 for 7 days, then plans from £9/month — Starter, 300 products. Growth is £19/month for 1,000 products, Seller £49 for 2,500, Pro £99 for 5,000 and Super Seller £299 for unlimited. There is no free plan. Relisting, offer management, inventory sync and bulk operations are included in every plan on every channel that supports them, not sold as add-ons.

GoTrendier and Etsy charge separately. GoTrendier charges nothing to list and 18% + $19 MXN on a sale; Etsy charges US$0.20 per listing up front and the fee stack above when something sells.

Sources and verification

Where a figure could not be traced to the platform that sets it, this page omits it. Etsy’s one-time shop set-up fee is one — Etsy states it exists and varies by location without publishing an amount for Mexico. GoTrendier’s payout timing is drawn from its help centre, which blocks automated access, so treat those figures as reported rather than directly verified.

Frequently Asked Questions

Only the ones that are at least twenty years old, or that you made or designed yourself. Etsy's Creativity Standards exclude “resold commercially available items that are newer than 20 years old, even if the item is designed to appear vintage”. For clothing in 2026 that means roughly pre-2006 — genuine 1990s and earlier pieces. A Zara blouse from last season, a Shein dress or a 2015 designer bag are all ineligible regardless of condition, because the rule is about age and authorship rather than wear.

Yes, and directly. Mexico appears on Etsy Payments' eligible-country list without an asterisk, which means no Payoneer detour — you onboard with a Mexican bank account and are deposited in pesos. Etsy also runs a localised Mexican seller funnel. Payment processing for Mexico is 4.5% plus 8.00 MXN per sale, on top of the 6.5% transaction fee and the US$0.20 listing fee.

Etsy charges 40.00 MXN on any deposit under 2,000.00 MXN, and it is the charge Mexican sellers most often discover the hard way. On a single 400 MXN sale, depositing immediately means 40 pesos goes to the deposit fee alone — more than the processing fee on that order. The fix costs nothing: let your balance accumulate past 2,000 MXN before depositing.

In pesos, in almost every case. If your listing currency differs from your payment account currency, Etsy charges a 2.5% currency conversion fee on the sale amount, and Etsy's own advice is to list in the same currency as your payment account. Listing in MXN and letting Etsy display a converted price to an American buyer costs you nothing, whereas listing in USD against a peso account costs 2.5% on every sale.

Etsy takes roughly half as much on a sale and charges you to wait. GoTrendier is free to list and takes 18% commission plus a flat $19 MXN, which works out at about 19% to 27% depending on the price. Etsy takes 6.5% plus 4.5% and 8.00 MXN, roughly 11% all in before advertising — but charges US$0.20 per listing whether or not it sells, and again every four months on renewal. That shape suits slow-moving high-value vintage and punishes a fast-turning closet of ordinary items.

Three things above all. Who made it, what it is and when it was made — the last of which is the formal vintage declaration Etsy will hold you to if it asks for documentation. Up to thirteen tags of twenty characters each, which are a primary ranking input with no GoTrendier equivalent. And a shipping profile, which is the biggest practical change of all. GoTrendier's five condition grades tell a buyer how worn something is; Etsy is asking how old it is, which is a completely different question.

Completely. On GoTrendier the buyer pays — $79 MXN via Estafeta or $49 MXN via PuntoPost up to a volumetric weight of five kilos — and GoTrendier issues the prepaid label, so you never quote a rate or buy a label. On Etsy the shipping profile is yours to build, for destinations you may never have posted to, with delivery windows you are promising to meet. Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee also applies to the shipping you charge. Start with a few destination countries rather than the world, and weigh the item properly — GoTrendier never asked you for a weight.

Below US$10,000 in trailing-365-day sales you can opt out of Offsite Ads, which cost 15% of an attributed order. At or above that threshold participation becomes mandatory at 12%, and stays mandatory for the lifetime of the shop even if sales later fall back below the line. For a shop listing in pesos the threshold is still measured in US dollars, converted at the time each sale processed. It is a one-way door worth understanding before you approach it.

In one direction automatically. Etsy supports order sync, so a sale there is read by FLUF and the GoTrendier listing comes down with no action from you. GoTrendier's sold-detection is deliberately unwired — its sold state has never been observed on a real seller account, and inferring a sale from a listing disappearing is how an integration withdraws a seller's whole wardrobe by mistake, since listings vanish through expiry and moderation far more often than through sales. So a GoTrendier sale takes one click from you.

£1 for 7 days, then plans from £9/month — Starter, 300 products. Growth is £19/month for 1,000 products, Seller £49 for 2,500, Pro £99 for 5,000 and Super Seller £299 for unlimited. There is no free plan. Relisting, offer management, inventory sync and bulk operations are included in every plan on every channel that supports them, rather than sold as add-ons. GoTrendier and Etsy charge their own fees separately.
