Gumtree to Causee: List Postable Items Where Sellers Pay No Fee
Which Gumtree UK items suit Causee, the marketplace that takes no seller fee and gives its profits to charity, and how to handle sales on each side.
Gumtree is where people in the UK look for things they can collect. A coat, a box of books or a pair of boots can sit there for weeks because buyers further away cannot easily get them. Causee is a UK resale marketplace where items are posted to the buyer and the seller pays no fee. FLUF Connect can send items from your Gumtree inventory to Causee so you do not write the listing again.
In short
- Send Causee the items you can post. Keep furniture and other collection-only items on Gumtree.
- Causee charges sellers nothing to list or sell. The buyer pays a protection fee.
- FLUF sees sales on neither marketplace. Mark each sale in FLUF: the Causee listing comes down, and you delete the Gumtree ad yourself.
- Causee has no brand field, so the brand has to be in the title.
What Causee is
Causee says on its homepage that it donates its profits to charity once its running and growth costs are covered. Its FAQ is clear that it is not a registered charity and that sellers are not asked to donate: you keep the price you sell for. It has no subscription and no listing fee. It sells art, books, electronics, fashion, furniture, health and beauty, home and garden, jewellery, mother and baby, and toys, and its FAQ says sellers may list the same items on other marketplaces.
Which items to send
| Send to Causee | Keep on Gumtree only |
|---|---|
| Clothing, shoes and accessories | Sofas, wardrobes and anything too big to post |
| Books, toys and small electricals that post well | Cars, bikes and items buyers want to see first |
| Items that have had no local interest for a few weeks | Items you will only hand over for cash |
What each costs
Gumtree’s fees page says sellers pay nothing when a buyer pays through Gumtree. That buyer pays a protection fee and delivery. A cash sale on collection costs neither side anything.
On Causee, sellers pay nothing either. Its protection fee page explains the fee the buyer pays at checkout. Payment goes through Stripe, and Causee holds it until the item is delivered before releasing it to you.
| £30 pair of boots | Gumtree | Causee |
|---|---|---|
| Seller fee | £0 | £0 |
| How the buyer gets them | Usually collection | Posted |
| When you are paid | On collection, or through Gumtree’s checkout | After delivery |
| Who can buy | Mostly people nearby | Buyers anywhere in the UK |
Neither takes a fee from you, so the choice is about who can buy. Causee adds the buyers who would never travel to collect from you, and you wait for delivery before you are paid.
How to send Gumtree items to Causee
- Connect Gumtree UK in FLUF Connect through the FLUF browser extension so your ads appear in your FLUF inventory.
- Connect Causee from its card on the Channels screen and complete Causee’s own payment set-up, without which its listings cannot take an order.
- Filter the inventory to Gumtree UK and select the items you can post.
- Choose Causee as the destination, check the title, size and price, and publish.

Put the brand at the start of the title, because Causee’s listing form has no brand field. Causee uses UK sizes for most clothing and shoes, so check any Gumtree ad that gives a size only in its description.
After a sale
| What happens | What FLUF does | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| It sells on Causee | FLUF does not see the sale | Mark it sold in FLUF, delete the Gumtree ad, then post the item |
| A Gumtree buyer collects it | Nothing until you tell it | Mark it sold in FLUF so the Causee listing comes down, then delete the ad |
When a Gumtree buyer arranges to collect, mark the item sold in FLUF before they arrive. That takes it off Causee, so nobody there can buy it while you wait.
