Key Takeaways: Marktplaats to Amazon.nl

  • Good fit: barcoded books, games, electronics, tools and new branded stock you can post.
  • Poor fit: sofas, bikes and other collection-only goods, and items in categories where Amazon wants approval or New condition.
  • Amazon.nl fees: €39 a month (excl. VAT) on the Professional plan, or €0.99 per sale on Individual, plus a referral fee per category.
  • Sold on Marktplaats: FLUF ends the Amazon.nl listing for you.
  • Sold on Amazon.nl: FLUF does not see that sale, so you record it in FLUF yourself and the Marktplaats ad then closes.
  • FLUF Connect: 7 days for £1, then from £9/month, then plans from £9/month.

Which Marktplaats ads belong on Amazon.nl

Marktplaats welcomes nearly whatever fits in a photo, from a kinderfiets (child’s bike) to a kast (cupboard). Amazon is pickier. Most products need a barcode (EAN, UPC or ISBN), and some categories and brands on Amazon.nl need approval before you can list them. Condition rules are set per category in Amazon.nl’s condition guidelines. Amazon’s UK guidelines allow only New items in apparel, so check the Dutch page before you plan on selling second-hand clothes there.

So sort your Marktplaats ads into three groups:

  • Send to Amazon.nl: boxed games, books with an ISBN, cameras, kitchen appliances, tools, new stock with a barcode.
  • Send after some work: products that fit a category but have no barcode on record yet.
  • Keep on Marktplaats: furniture, bikes, whatever the buyer collects in person (ophalen), used clothing, and one-off unbranded pieces.

Keep the third group where it is. Adevinta, which owns Marktplaats, reports over 8 million unique visitors a month, 18.7 million live ads and 350,000 new ads a day. Bulky goods can still travel from there: Verzenden via Marktplaats offers Brenger for large items, from €42.

Registering with Amazon.nl, and why bol.com is a different route

Amazon’s Dutch getting-started guide asks for your business name as registered with the Kamer van Koophandel, or your personal details if you sign up as a private seller. Amazon can ask you to verify with an ID document, a KvK extract or bank statements. It also expects a valid credit card on the account. Three details from that guide trip up Dutch sellers:

  • Do not black out your BSN on the ID copy you upload.
  • Documents in a language other than Dutch, English, German, French, Spanish or Italian need an official translation.
  • Amazon pays out by bank transfer, never by PayPal, and in the currency of the country where your bank account was opened. A Dutch IBAN means euros.

That guide dates from 2021, so check the current Seller Central sign-up screens as you go.

bol.com is the obvious Dutch alternative. Its partner programme only accepts sellers who are registered with the KvK (or the Belgian KBO) and hold a btw-nummer. Sign-up also asks for an SBI activity code, a passport or identity card, and a current account in a SEPA country. FLUF Connect does not list on bol.com, so a Marktplaats seller without a KvK number who wants a second Dutch outlet through FLUF has Amazon.nl.

What Amazon.nl charges, with worked numbers

Amazon.nl has two plans. Individual costs €0.99 (excl. VAT) per item sold, and Professional costs €39 (excl. VAT) per month. At 40 or more sales a month, Professional costs less than the per-item charge.

On top of either plan you pay a referral fee, worked out on the total price the buyer pays, including shipping. The rates that matter most to Marktplaats resellers:

Two examples. A second-hand laptop at €180 with free delivery pays €12.60 in referral fees at 7%. A €20 paperback pays €3.00 at 15%. On Marktplaats you name a vraagprijs (asking price) and bargain over bids in the chat. On Amazon.nl the buyer pays the listed price, so build the commission and postage into it from the start.

Posting orders: PostNL labels versus Amazon shipping

On Marktplaats, the buyer pays through a payment request, picks PostNL, DHL or Budbee, and covers the postage. You get the label once they pay.

An Amazon.nl order has none of that. You post it yourself with PostNL or another carrier, or you use Amazon’s Easy Ship. For Amazon.nl orders sent from stock in the Netherlands, Easy Ship costs €2.33 up to 1 kg, €3.49 up to 23 kg and €8.49 from 23 to 31 kg, excluding BTW. Parcels in the two heavier bands may measure up to 120 × 60 × 60 cm. If nobody is home, the carrier may hand the parcel to neighbours or drop it at the nearest pickup point. When you post orders yourself, Amazon expects customer service in the language of the marketplace. On Amazon.nl that is Dutch, which you already write in on Marktplaats.

Getting a barcode or ASIN onto each product

Marktplaats never asked you for a barcode. Amazon.nl does for most items. You have three ways to fill that gap:

  1. Scan or type the code on the item. Books carry an ISBN. Boxed electronics and games carry an EAN.
  2. Copy the ASIN. Find the exact product on amazon.nl and take the ten-character code from its page. This works well when a product comes in several versions.
  3. Ask for an exemption. Own-brand and handmade goods often have no code. Amazon.nl lets you apply for a GTIN exemption in Seller Central. Amazon says an exemption covers one category in one store, and a product marked generic cannot be changed later.

Setting up Marktplaats and Amazon.nl in FLUF Connect

  1. Connect your Marktplaats account in FLUF Connect and import your active ads.
  2. Connect your Amazon seller account and choose Amazon.nl.
  3. Import your Marktplaats ads into FLUF.
  4. Pick the ads from your “send” group and add a barcode or ASIN to each.
  5. Crosslist them to Amazon.nl.

Before you publish each one, check these yourself:

  • The barcode or ASIN matches the exact edition, model and colour you hold.
  • The Amazon.nl condition grade matches the item in front of you.
  • The condition note in Dutch describes every mark, missing part or sign of wear.
  • The price covers the referral fee and your postage.
  • The category does not need approval you have not yet received.

What happens after a sale

Channel FLUF detects a sale here FLUF ends this listing when the item sells elsewhere Relisting (plans above Starter) Offer management
Marktplaats Yes Yes Yes No
Amazon.nl No Yes No No

In practice: a sale on Marktplaats ends the Amazon.nl listing without you doing anything. A sale on Amazon.nl is different. Open the order in Seller Central, then mark the product as sold in FLUF, which takes the Marktplaats ad down. Until you do, a buyer in Utrecht or Groningen can still send you a message about something that is already packed for an Amazon customer. Check your Amazon.nl orders every day you have stock listed.

Frequently Asked Questions

FLUF Connect sees the Marktplaats sale and ends the matching Amazon.nl listing, so nobody on Amazon can buy an item you have already sold.

FLUF does not detect Amazon sales. When an Amazon.nl order arrives, mark the item sold in FLUF and FLUF ends the Marktplaats ad. Until then, the Marktplaats ad stays live.

Amazon.nl lets you register as a business or as a private seller, and it can ask for an ID document, a KvK extract or bank statements to verify you. bol.com is stricter: its partner programme requires a KvK or KBO registration and a btw-nummer.

No. FLUF Connect does not list on bol.com. Amazon.nl is the Dutch store you can reach from Marktplaats through FLUF, alongside the other marketplaces in its list of 50+.

Individual costs €0.99 (excl. VAT) per item sold. Professional costs €39 (excl. VAT) a month. From 40 sales a month, Professional is cheaper. Both plans also pay a referral fee per category, such as 15% on books and 7% on electronics.

Most products do. Use the EAN or ISBN printed on the item, copy the ASIN from the product page on amazon.nl, or apply for a GTIN exemption in Seller Central for own-brand and handmade goods.

Post them yourself with PostNL or another carrier, or book Amazon Easy Ship. Easy Ship rates for parcels leaving Dutch stock begin at €2.33 excluding BTW (up to 1 kg).

You can start with a 7-day trial for £1. After that, Starter is £9/month with unlimited listings, and Marktplaats relisting comes with the plans above Starter.
