Key takeaways

  • Rue du Commerce is a French online retailer for computing, phones, appliances and home goods, with a marketplace open to professional sellers who can serve French customers in French.
  • Selling costs €40 a month including VAT, a commission of 6% to 17.5% depending on the category and whether the item is new or refurbished, and a handling fee of €0.25 to €2 per item sold.
  • Refurbished and second-hand items are allowed in many categories, at a higher commission than new ones.
  • You have three working days to accept an order, and payouts arrive three times a month once the buyer’s withdrawal period has passed.
  • An approved seller can connect their account in FLUF Connect and list stock whose barcodes already exist in the Rue du Commerce catalogue. FLUF does not create catalogue products and does not import orders.

This guide is for a business that sells laptops, phones, TVs, components, kitchen appliances, garden tools or furniture, new or refurbished, and wants a French audience that shops for those things. If you already sell electronics on Back Market or eBay and can answer French customers within two working days, Rue du Commerce is worth a look. If you are a private seller clearing out a cupboard, it is closed to you: only professional sellers are accepted.

What the marketplace is

Rue du Commerce calls itself the first marketplace created in France, and its seller site describes it as a top-five high-tech marketplace in the country, strongest in phones, appliances and computing. Third-party sellers list next to the retailer’s own range, and the buyer checks out on rueducommerce.fr in one basket.

The seller site promises a named contact from the day you open your shop, free placement of your best offers on the home page, category pages and newsletters, and an end-of-month promotion you can join by applying a discount code to your catalogue.

Who can sell

The seller site sets three conditions: “Vous êtes un vendeur professionnel” (you are a professional seller), you handle every step from offers to delivery with a customer service team that can write in French, and you follow French legal and tax rules, including VAT and the eco-participation charge on electrical goods. The marketplace terms (March 2025) add that you must be a properly constituted business.

Applying takes five steps on the seller site: create your shop, pass identity checks on the business (KYC), build and publish your catalogue, set your delivery rates, then switch the shop on. After the first form, the terms promise a final answer on eligibility within 15 days. The payment provider that collects money for sellers also has to approve your file before you can start.

The seller site does not say that your company must be French. Its quality charter asks for a returns address in France, so a seller abroad needs one before applying.

What you can sell

The fees page is also the clearest list of what the marketplace takes: books, CDs, DVDs and vinyl; small and large appliances; computing, phones, TVs, audio, cameras, gaming and e-scooters; garden furniture, barbecues, pools and power tools; smart-home kit; and furniture, bedding and decoration.

Unlike most French retail marketplaces, it lists a second rate for refurbished and used goods in every one of those categories. The terms define three refurbished grades, from “Reconditionné Premium” to “Reconditionné bon état” (good condition, with visible scratches), and expect each item to be described in the grade that matches it.

Fees

There are three charges.

  • Subscription: €40 a month including VAT, according to both the fees page and article 18.1 of the terms. Rue du Commerce can raise it with 15 days’ notice.
  • Commission: a percentage of the VAT-inclusive sale price plus shipping, worked out before any discount. It depends on the category and condition.
  • Handling fee: per item sold, before VAT: €0.25 up to €99.99, €0.50 from €100 to €199.99, €1 from €200 to €299.99, and €2 above €300 (article 18.2).
Category New Refurbished or used
TVs, projectors and video players 6% 10%
Large appliances 6.5% 12%
Computers and tablets 7% 9%
Smartphones 7% 10%
Gaming and consoles 8% 13%
Books, CDs, DVDs and vinyl 12% 15.5%
Phone and computer accessories 12% 17.5%
Furniture and decoration 15.5% 16.5%
Bedding 16.5% 17.5%
Anything not listed 15.5% 17.5%

Take a refurbished smartphone sold for €250 with free delivery. The commission at 10% is €25, the handling fee is €1 before VAT, and your share of the €40 subscription comes on top. The same phone sold new would cost €17.50 in commission. Accessories carry the highest rates on the site, so a €15 phone case gives up €1.80 in commission and €0.25 in handling.

Orders and quality targets

The terms give you three working days to accept or refuse an order. After that it is cancelled automatically. The quality page sets a tighter target and five more:

  • Accept orders within 48 working hours.
  • Accept more than 97% of orders.
  • Keep accepted-but-unfulfilled orders and refunds after a dispute at or below 3%.
  • Keep orders that need Rue du Commerce’s customer service at or below 3%.
  • Keep late orders at or below 3%.
  • Reply to customers and to Rue du Commerce within 48 working hours.

Missing a delivery date shown on the site can get your offers suspended. If you will be away for more than two working days, the terms ask you to put the shop into holiday mode.

Payouts and returns

The marketplace collects the buyer’s payment and pays you by bank transfer three times a month, on the 1st, 11th and 21st. You can only be paid for an order once it has been delivered and the buyer’s legal withdrawal period has run out, so the first money from a new shop takes a few weeks to arrive.

Returns are your job. Your own terms of sale must explain how to return an item and how refunds work, and the quality charter asks for a returns address in France and full tracking on every parcel.

Is Rue du Commerce right for you?

It suits a French or EU electronics, appliance or home business with stock in depth, especially a refurbisher, because the marketplace prices refurbished goods into every category instead of sending them elsewhere. The low commission on TVs, computers and phones also helps sellers of high-value items.

It suits less well a seller of cheap accessories, where the commission is highest and the handling fee bites, or anyone who cannot handle customer messages in French. For other French retail marketplaces, see E.Leclerc, Carrefour and BUT. Private sellers with used electronics are better placed on Leboncoin.

Using FLUF Connect with Rue du Commerce

Rue du Commerce approves its own sellers, so FLUF has no application link for it. On the Channels screen in FLUF Connect its card is marked “Invite only” and covers one country, France. Once your shop is live and your products exist in its catalogue, choose “Already approved? Connect” on the card.

FLUF can then list items from your inventory that already exist in the Rue du Commerce catalogue, matched by barcode. A boxed laptop or a branded vacuum cleaner with its EAN in your FLUF inventory can be offered there, while products without one stay on your other channels.

Apply and get accepted as a seller You do this with Rue du Commerce
Connect your approved seller account Yes, from the Channels screen
List stock that the catalogue already holds, by barcode Yes

Detect sales or import orders No. Accept and manage orders in your seller account.
Relisting or offer management No

FLUF does not see orders from this marketplace, so a sale there does not lower the quantity on your other channels. The three-day acceptance window gives you time to check: when an order arrives, make sure the item has not sold elsewhere before you accept it, and mark it sold in FLUF if it was your last one. Refusing orders counts against the 97% acceptance target, so that check matters.

FLUF’s plans for businesses selling on several channels are on the pricing page. Start with 7 days for £1, then from £9/month to see the Channels screen with your own stock.
