Key Takeaways

  • This route is for German sellers on Kleinanzeigen who want Dutch buyers on Marktplaats too, especially near the border or with items that post well.
  • The two sites belong to the same group and work in a similar way: free ads for private sellers and a buyer-paid protection service for shipped sales.
  • Payment timing differs. Marktplaats pays you 48 hours after delivery unless the buyer reports a problem. Kleinanzeigen pays when the buyer confirms receipt, or after 14 days.
  • FLUF sees sales on both, ends the listing on the other site, and can relist on both from the Seller plan upwards.

Who this suits

If you live in Aachen, Kleve, Emden or anywhere else near the Dutch border, half of your natural buyers are on a different website. Dutch shoppers look on Marktplaats, not Kleinanzeigen, and a buyer from Venlo will happily drive twenty minutes to collect a bike or a sofa. Further from the border, the route still works for things that post well: clothes, books, games, small electronics, collectables.

It suits less well for bulky items you can only sell for collection, if you are hours from the Netherlands. It also needs you to handle Dutch messages. Buyers will write in Dutch, and a short listing in Dutch sells better than a German one on Marktplaats.

Two sites from the same family

Kleinanzeigen’s own pages carry a Marktplaats B.V. copyright line, and the two sites share a lot. On both, a private seller lists for nothing, and the buyer pays for the protection service on shipped sales. The details differ in ways that matter once money is moving.

Kleinanzeigen Marktplaats
Cost to list, private seller Free, up to 100 new ads in 30 days in consumer goods Free in most categories
Protected payment Sicher bezahlen, fee paid by the buyer Kopersbescherming, fee paid by the buyer
When you get paid When the buyer confirms receipt, or automatically after 14 days Once the buyer’s 48-hour check after delivery has passed
Built-in shipping DHL and Hermes labels PostNL, DHL and Brenger, chosen by the buyer

On Kleinanzeigen, private sellers pay nothing until they place more than 100 new ads in consumer goods, services and jobs within 30 days. Each ad after that costs €1.99 including VAT. With Sicher bezahlen, the buyer pays a fee based on the price, Kleinanzeigen holds the money until the buyer confirms the item arrived, and releases it to you after 14 days if they forget.

On Marktplaats, Kopersbescherming applies as standard when the buyer chooses delivery with PostNL, DHL or Brenger, and the cost always falls on the buyer. The payment waits with an independent payment company, Online Payment Platform, until delivery. The buyer then has 48 hours to report a problem, and if they do nothing you are paid automatically. If you sell often, that shorter wait makes a real difference to cash flow.

Getting parcels across the border

Marktplaats’ shipping flow lets the buyer choose the carrier and pay postage inside the payment request, and you receive a label or code in your messages. Those services are built around Dutch carriers, so check at your first sale whether the option the buyer picked can be dropped off from your address. If it cannot, agree postage with the buyer and send with a German carrier. Hermes lists parcels to the Netherlands from €8.99 for its smallest size. Keep in mind that Kopersbescherming only applies to the built-in delivery options.

What FLUF does on each side

Kleinanzeigen Marktplaats
How you connect FLUF browser extension FLUF browser extension
FLUF sees a sale here Yes Yes
FLUF ends the listing here when it sells elsewhere Yes Yes
Relisting Included from the Seller plan upwards Included from the Seller plan upwards

This is one of the smoother pairs to run. Whichever site the item sells on, FLUF takes it off the other, so a pram sold to a buyer in Nijmegen does not stay up for a buyer in Kleve. Relisting keeps older ads fresh on both sites without you retyping them.

Getting started

  1. Add the FLUF browser extension and connect your Kleinanzeigen account, then bring your ads into FLUF.
  2. Create a Marktplaats account if you do not have one, and connect it through the extension.
  3. Choose the ads to send. Start with items that post easily, or bulky ones if you live near the border.
  4. Rewrite the title and description in Dutch, set the price in euros, and publish.
