OpenCart to Amazon: Barcodes, Fees and Listing Your Store Catalogue
How an OpenCart shop gets its products onto Amazon: the barcode rule, what Amazon charges, and what FLUF Connect keeps in step.
- Selling OpenCart stock on Amazon works best for branded goods that already carry a barcode. Each product needs a GTIN (EAN or UPC) or an existing ASIN before it can be listed.
- Amazon UK charges £0.75 per unit sold on the Individual plan or £25 a month (excl. VAT) on Professional, plus a referral fee that is mostly between 8% and 15%.
- FLUF Connect needs a Professional Amazon account. It lists merchant-fulfilled offers from your OpenCart catalogue and removes them when the item sells in your store.
- Amazon orders are not picked up by FLUF yet, so you record those sales in FLUF yourself.
This page is for independent shops running OpenCart that sell new, packaged products: a camera accessories store, a homeware importer, a games and hobby shop. If your items have a manufacturer’s barcode, Amazon is a strong second channel because buyers already search for those exact products there. If you mostly sell one-off handmade or second-hand pieces, start with our OpenCart to Etsy or OpenCart to eBay guides instead.
How Amazon listings differ from your store
On your OpenCart site, each product page is yours. Amazon works from one shared catalogue. Amazon’s guide to product IDs explains that you use a product’s GTIN to “match an offer to an existing listing in the Amazon store, or to create a new product listing”. If the product is already there, your offer joins its page and Amazon keeps the existing title and photos. If it is not, you create the page yourself.
The barcode is the deciding field. A GTIN is up to 14 digits and usually printed under the barcode on the packaging. If you make your own products, Amazon points you to GS1 to license GTINs. The same guide also covers listing without one, which applies to a narrow set of products such as your own unbranded goods.
What Amazon charges
Amazon’s UK pricing page sets out two plans. Individual costs £0.75 per unit sold. Professional costs £25 a month (excl. VAT) whatever you sell. On top, Amazon takes a referral fee on each sale that depends on the category, and “most referral fees are between 8% and 15%”.
| Monthly units sold on Amazon | Individual plan | Professional plan |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | £7.50 | £25 |
| 34 | £25.50 | £25 |
| 100 | £75 | £25 |
The plans cross at about 34 units a month. That matters less than it looks, because FLUF Connect only connects to Professional accounts. Budget for the £25 from the start.
A worked example at a 15% referral rate: a £60 set of camera filters earns you £51 after the referral fee, before your postage and the share of the monthly plan. On your OpenCart store the same sale costs only your payment gateway’s fee, so Amazon earns its place by finding buyers your site does not reach.
Shipping your own orders or using Amazon’s warehouses
Amazon offers two ways to fulfil. You can ship from your own stock, or send stock to Amazon under Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA), where Amazon stores, packs and delivers. FLUF Connect lists merchant-fulfilled offers, which suits a shop whose stock lives in one place and also sells through its website. Stock you have sent to Amazon’s warehouses is outside what FLUF sets.
Setting it up
- Open an Amazon Professional seller account and pick the marketplace you want to sell in, such as Amazon.co.uk.
- In OpenCart, install the FLUF Connect extension from the OpenCart Marketplace and enable it under Extensions, then Modules.
- In FLUF Connect, open Channels, connect your OpenCart store, then choose Amazon and approve the connection on Amazon’s own sign-in page. FLUF never asks for your Amazon password.
- Add the barcode or ASIN to each product you want on Amazon, set its condition, and list one item first. If Amazon wants extra details for that category, it says which, and you add them before listing the rest.
What FLUF Connect does between the two
| Situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| Products from OpenCart | Stock-tracked simple products from OpenCart 4.1.0.4 come into FLUF. Products with options are outside this release. |
| Item sells on your OpenCart store | FLUF sees the order once it reaches processing or completed, and removes the Amazon offer. |
| Item sells on Amazon | Not detected yet. Mark the item sold in FLUF, which ends your other listings and updates your OpenCart stock. |
| Price and stock edits in FLUF | Sent to Amazon |
| Relisting, offers, smart pricing | Not available on Amazon |
The Amazon row is the one to plan around. Check Seller Central for new orders each morning and mark them sold in FLUF, especially for items where you hold only one or two units.

What FLUF Connect costs
FLUF Connect is 7 days for £1, then from £9/month. Crosslisting and inventory sync are on every plan. Amazon has no relisting or offers, so if Amazon and your OpenCart store are your only channels, Starter covers what you need.
| Plan | Monthly | Crosslisted products |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | £9/month | Unlimited |
| Pro | £29/month | Unlimited |
| Super Seller | Custom pricing — tell us what you need | Unlimited |
