Key Takeaways: Whatnot to Amazon

  • Best fit: sealed, barcoded trading card boxes, boxed toys and new sneakers you already sell on Whatnot.
  • Check first: Amazon asks for approval before you list in some categories, and collectibles in Toys & Games carry extra rules. Single cards and graded items are the trickiest stock.
  • A Whatnot sale ends the Amazon listing. FLUF does not see Amazon orders, so you mark those sold in FLUF and it ends the Whatnot listing.
  • On a $120 sale, Whatnot leaves you about $106.62 and Amazon about $102.00, before Amazon’s monthly plan.
  • Cost: 7 days for £1, then from £9/month, then plans from £9/month. Starter covers this pair.

Which Whatnot stock Amazon will take

If you sell trading cards, sealed collectibles, sneakers or toys on Whatnot, Amazon suits some of that stock and refuses or restricts the rest. Amazon’s seller FAQ says some categories need a Professional plan, some need approval from Amazon, and some are closed to third-party sellers. Its condition guide adds that Toys & Games has special requirements for collectibles, and that some products can only be sold as New.

So split your stock into three groups before you connect anything.

  • Simplest: factory-sealed booster boxes, starter decks, boxed figures and unworn sneakers in their box. These already have a manufacturer barcode and usually match a product page Amazon already has.
  • Check in Seller Central: anything Amazon files as a collectible, such as sports and entertainment memorabilia, coins and trading cards. Look each item up in Seller Central before you plan a batch around it.
  • Trickiest: raw single cards, one-off lots and worn pairs. Many have no barcode, and without one there is usually no product page to join.

For the third group, eBay is the more natural second channel. Our Whatnot to eBay guide covers that route.

Barcodes, ASINs and product pages

On Whatnot, your photos and description sell the item. On Amazon, you usually add an offer to a product page that already exists. That page keeps its own title and images, and your offer supplies price, condition and quantity.

That makes the printed code on the packaging your shortcut. A sealed booster box usually matches an existing page through its UPC. A bundle you built yourself has no page to join, so it needs an application to Amazon before it can go up. Amazon’s GTIN guide says you pick “I don’t have a product ID”, then send a title and photos showing all sides of the item and its packaging.

The Amazon selling plan you need

Amazon has two plans. On Amazon.com, Individual costs $0.99 per item sold and Professional costs $39.99 a month. On Amazon.co.uk, Individual is £0.75 per item and Professional is £25 a month, both excluding VAT.

The US Professional plan costs the same as about 40 Individual per-item fees. If you expect fewer Amazon sales than that in a month, Individual is cheaper on fees alone.

Whatnot and Amazon fees on the same box

Whatnot Amazon
Monthly fee None $39.99 (US Professional) or £25 excl. VAT (UK Professional)
Commission (US) 8% of the sale price; 4% for Coins & Money 15% referral fee in Toys & Games, $0.30 minimum
Commission (UK) 6.67% + VAT; 4% + VAT for Coins & Money 15% referral fee in Toys and Games, £0.25 minimum
Payment processing US: 2.9% + $0.30. UK: 2.42% + £0.25 + VAT. Charged on the whole order, shipping and tax included No separate fee listed

Take a sealed booster box at $120, with shipping and tax left out to keep the sums clear. Whatnot’s 8% commission is $9.60 and its 2.9% + $0.30 processing fee is $3.78, so you keep $106.62. Amazon’s 15% Toys & Games referral fee is $18.00, so you keep $102.00, and the $39.99 plan comes out of the month’s total.

The same box at £120 on Whatnot UK costs a 6.67% commission plus VAT, which is £9.60, and processing of 2.42% + £0.25 plus VAT, which is £3.78. You keep £106.62. On Amazon.co.uk the 15% referral fee is £18.00.

Cheap items and expensive items

Fixed fees bite hardest at the bottom of the price range. A $5 item on Whatnot pays $0.40 commission and $0.45 processing, so you keep about $4.15. On Amazon the 15% referral fee is $0.75, leaving $4.25, but an Individual seller also pays the $0.99 per-item fee. Cheap stock only makes sense on Amazon if you already pay for Professional.

At the top of the range, Whatnot gets cheaper. Since 14 January 2026, Whatnot has charged 0% commission on the part of an order above 1,500 (USD, GBP or EUR) in selected categories, including Trading Card Games, Toys & Hobbies, Comics & Anime, Coins & Money and sports singles. Whatnot widened it on 4 June 2026 to cover Bags & Accessories and Jewelry & Watches. Processing still applies to the full amount, and Whatnot’s fee page labels the rate limited-time. Whatnot’s own example is a $2,000 sale: $120 commission on the first $1,500 and nothing on the remaining $500. Add $58.30 processing and you keep $1,821.70. On Amazon, 15% of $2,000 in Toys & Games is $300.

Sneakers follow the same maths. Amazon lists Footwear at 15% with a $0.30 minimum in the US, and 15% with a £0.25 minimum in the UK, so a pair priced like the booster box above leaves the same margin gap.

Sellers based in France or Belgium have a further Whatnot discount: Trading Card Games and Sports Cards sales pay a reduced 4% + VAT commission through 31 December 2026. Wholesale pallets in the US, Canada and Australia also sit at a limited-time 4%.

Two more Whatnot details help when you compare. Whatnot works out fees per transaction, even if purchases are later bundled into one shipment, and it charges nothing to create or store listings. Sellers in Canada and Australia pay the same headline rates as the US. To see what you paid on any order, open Seller Hub, go to Orders, pick the order and choose Receipt and earnings details.
