How to Sell on the IBS.it Marketplace: Who Qualifies, Commission and Payouts
IBS.it opens its catalogue to professional sellers in Italy. What it costs, the rules in the contract, and what FLUF Connect does once you are approved.
7 days for £1, then from £9/month.
- IBS.it is one of Italy’s best-known online bookshops, and its marketplace lets professional sellers list their own stock next to IBS‘s range.
- Only professional sellers with a partita IVA (an Italian VAT number) can join. Private sellers cannot.
- IBS says joining has no activation or subscription cost and listing is free. You pay a commission of up to 15% of each sale, set by category.
- Sellers are paid weekly, three weeks after each buyer pays. You ship by express courier with tracking.
- Once IBS approves you, FLUF Connect can list stock that already exists in the IBS catalogue, matched by barcode.
This guide is for Italian businesses that sell books, music, films, games or collectibles and want another place to sell them. A second-hand bookshop with a partita IVA, a record dealer or a games retailer fits. If you sell as a private person, IBS will not take you, and Vinted or Subito are better starting points.
What IBS is
IBS is an Italian online shop for books, music and film, and part of the Feltrinelli group. Its marketplace page describes the service as the shop window IBS gives qualified sellers to sell their products to millions of customers. IBS supplies the platform. You handle each customer’s order and the shipping.
Books are the core, but the marketplace terms say you can sell “una grande varietà di prodotti” (a wide variety of products), apart from items on IBS’s banned list and categories IBS has not opened yet.
Who can sell
IBS’s page is direct: the marketplace is for professional sellers with a partita IVA. Before you apply you can email IBS at the address on that page and ask for the full contract with its annexes and the costs of the service. It is worth doing, because the costs sit in an annex rather than on the page.
Applications are reviewed by IBS. You complete the form, accept the general contract conditions and sign a separate agreement with the payment provider IBS uses. Without that payment agreement you cannot sell.
What it costs
The marketplace page says opening a shop has no activation cost and no subscription to join, and that listing your inventory or adding new products to the catalogue is free. The headline banner on the same page adds “nessun costo fisso per i primi 3 mesi” (no fixed cost for the first three months), so check the contract for any fixed monthly fee after that.
On each sale you pay a variable commission “fino a un massimo del 15%” (up to a maximum of 15%) of the transaction, depending on the product category.
A worked example at the top rate: a collector’s vinyl selling for €40 costs at most €6 in commission, leaving €34 before your own shipping and packaging costs. Lower-commission categories leave you more.
The rules you sign up to
The marketplace conditions are long. These are the points that change how you work day to day:
- Shipping. Orders go by express courier with a major carrier. You must give the buyer the courier’s name, the tracking number and the delivery terms. You cannot use a courier carrying the brand of an IBS competitor.
- Stock. When a product sells out, you remove it from your catalogue within 2 working days.
- Quality. Three complaints about faulty or non-conforming items, across two or more different barcodes within six months, can get your account suspended. Repeated late deliveries count the same way.
- Payouts. Money reaches your bank account on the Friday after 21 days from the buyer’s payment, for orders that completed without a dispute.
- Your data. Your sales and customer data stay available in your seller area for the life of the contract and 30 days after it ends.
The 2-working-day stock rule is where selling the same items on several sites gets risky. A book that sells on eBay on Saturday has to come off IBS fast, or you take an order you cannot fill.
Using FLUF Connect with IBS
After IBS approves you, connect your IBS seller account from the Channels screen in FLUF Connect. FLUF can then list items from your inventory that already exist in the IBS catalogue, matched by barcode (EAN or ISBN).
| Task | On IBS through FLUF Connect |
|---|---|
| Apply and get approved | You do this with IBS |
| Connect your approved seller account | Yes, from the Channels screen |
| List items already in the IBS catalogue, matched by barcode | Yes |
| Create new products in the IBS catalogue | No |
| Detect IBS sales or import orders | No. Handle orders in your IBS seller area and update stock yourself. |
| Relisting or offer management | No |
Because FLUF does not see IBS sales, mark the item sold in FLUF when an IBS order arrives. FLUF then ends that item’s listings on the other channels it manages for you.
