How to Sell on the B&Q Marketplace: Applying, Fees and Shipping on diy.com
B&Q opens diy.com to home improvement and garden businesses. Who it accepts, how the fees work, what you ship yourself, and what FLUF Connect does after approval.
7 days for £1, then from £9/month.
- The B&Q Marketplace sells third-party products on diy.com next to B&Q’s own range. B&Q says it has more than 2,000 merchants, 2.1 million products and 464 million annual visits.
- It is for businesses. The application asks for a VAT number and a company registration number, and B&Q reviews each one against its own criteria.
- You pay a monthly subscription plus a commission on each sale that depends on the category. You ship orders yourself with the courier of your choice.
- After approval, FLUF Connect lists the products B&Q already carries, using each item’s EAN. B&Q orders are not detected, so you mark those sold in FLUF.
This guide is for UK manufacturers, importers, wholesalers and retailers in home improvement and garden: a lighting brand, a tool importer, a garden furniture maker, a flooring supplier. The application form lists those four business types. If you sell second-hand items as a private person, the B&Q Marketplace is not open to you, and eBay or Facebook Marketplace are better homes for used tools and furniture.
What the B&Q Marketplace is
B&Q runs its marketplace through the Kingfisher Merchant Hub. Kingfisher is B&Q’s parent company. B&Q describes itself as “the UK’s leading home improvement retailer” and a trusted name in DIY since 1969. The figures on its merchant page:
| B&Q Marketplace figure | As stated by B&Q |
|---|---|
| Merchants | 2,000+ |
| Products | 2.1m+ |
| Annual visits to diy.com | 464m |
| Sales since launch | £1 billion GMV |
| Click & Collect for merchants | 300+ stores |
Click & Collect is the unusual part. B&Q says merchant products can be collected from more than 300 of its stores, which gives an online-only brand a physical pick-up point it could not afford on its own.
Applying
The application form starts with your company name, VAT number and company registration number. It then asks your type of business, your main product categories, annual turnover, how many products you expect to sell, whether you can ship to the end customer yourself and your average delivery time.
B&Q’s how-to-start page says applications are reviewed against a range of criteria to meet its standard for customer experience, and approved merchants go through an onboarding process and sign up to its requirements. B&Q says setup typically takes less than five working days from application to going live.
What it costs
B&Q’s FAQ answers the fee question like this: “You pay a small monthly subscription fee, and commission is only charged when you make a sale. The exact rates depend on the product category you sell in.” The merchant hub does not publish the figures, so ask for the subscription and your categories’ commission rates during the application, before you sign.
On delivery, B&Q says delivery is currently free for all orders and that “you sell it, you ship it”: you choose the courier and carry the cost. Bulky items such as sheds or flooring can cost more to deliver than the commission, so check each one before you list it.
Using FLUF Connect with B&Q
When B&Q has approved and onboarded you, connect your B&Q seller account from the Channels screen in FLUF Connect. FLUF can then list items from your inventory that already exist in the B&Q catalogue, matched by barcode (EAN).
| Task | On B&Q through FLUF Connect |
|---|---|
| Apply and get approved | You do this with B&Q |
| Connect your approved seller account | Yes, from the Channels screen |
| List items already in the B&Q catalogue, matched by barcode | Yes |
| Create new products in the B&Q catalogue | No |
| Detect B&Q orders | No. Handle orders in your B&Q seller account. |
| Relisting or offer management | No |
FLUF does not see B&Q orders, so mark the item sold in FLUF when one arrives. FLUF then ends that item’s listings on your other channels, so a garden bench sold on diy.com is not also sold on eBay.
